The latest Joe Milton rumors could help the Patriots in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.

With Drake Maye heading into his second season and newly signed veteran Josh Dobbs expected to potentially be his back-up, New England Patriots quarterback Joe Milton finds himself in an interesting spot this offseason.

The former Tennessee standout capped off the 2024 regular season with a strong performance that he added to his resume, going out in the finale against the Bills and putting up a 22-of-29 (75.9%) performance where he threw for 241 yards and an electrifying touchdown.

Milton missed just one pass during that entire first half, completing 12-of-13 (92.3%) for 139 yards along with his touchdown against Buffalo, and looked dialed in throughout in his lone appearance of last season.

That now apparently has clubs intrigued as they look to find a quarterback.  With a draft that doesn’t seem to have the same QB talent we normally see at this time of year, it appears that clubs are pondering their options and it’s placed Milton in their sights.

According to MassLive’s Mark Daniels and Karen Guregian, the Patriots have received multiple inquiries for the former sixth-round pick, which could open the door for a trade in the coming weeks.

The fact multiple teams might be in the mix could be good news for New England, as it would drive up the asking price and potentially give the Patriots some additional draft capital.  Given what seems to be unfolding at the top of the board, New England could find itself in a situation where Eliot Wolf and Mike Vrabel may need to do some maneuvering in order to get whichever players may be on their radar.  Having an extra draft pick, which a 3rd-round choice or better should seemingly be what they’re after, would certainly help.

That same report also revealed, “A source close to the quarterback said Milton would prefer to be on a roster that best gives him a chance to compete for the starting job.”  With Maye in the fold, the best he could likely hope for here is to compete for the back-up role.

For now, New England shouldn’t be in any rush to move him given that they’ve got him under contract for three more seasons.  At the same time, if opportunity comes knocking with a deal too good to pass up, hopefully they’ll turn that into a player that can bolster a roster that still has some significant holes to fill.

So the report is from MassLive media but where did they get it? “a report”. I would hang onto him if you think he is a legit NFL starter, as Maye will likely get hurt and if he shows even more success alike the EOYear Buffalo game, you get a few high draft picks and not just a 3rd. He’s a cheap backup. If you see he’s flawed, take the 3rd rounder now. But the mystery to me is if Milton is a legit NFL starter, then how did he nearly go undrafted in a league that is starved for… Read more »
