Borges: Extra prep time pays dividends as Patriots start to look familiar | Boston Herald

Borges excerpt:

Of course, paying customers are seldom realistic. They are either blindly enthusiastic or stubbornly pessimistic. Yesterday they were both, booing early as if the offense could do nothing right and cheering late as if it couldn’t do anything wrong. The truth was in the middle. - See more at: Borges: Extra prep time pays dividends as Patriots start to look familiar | Boston Herald

While Borges is accurate about the booing early and cheering late, as an objective observation, I don't get the comment "Of course, paying customers are seldom realistic."

As if the act of buying a ticket makes someone unrealistic, Borges comes off as an arrogant lout because he is always realistic and is so omniscient he never has to pay for a thing. Of course.

What, precisely, is the point of backhanding the 60,000 people who pay the freight?

In Borges' mind, it must be that the great unwashed, who somehow have the wherewithal to pony up between $125 to $300 per ticket, are unable to discern what is transpiring on the field. The reporters and suits in the boxes who sit silently know best, and in time will enlighten those who dig deep to attend a game. Of course.

Borges is a poor reporter. Somewhere along the way he came to believe that just reporting the facts is never enough. If he just said that attendees were restless early and delighted late, and let us draw our own conclusions about the atmosphere, that would have been plenty.

Instead he has to demean the fans which, in a subtle and insidious way, renders their (our) opinion inaccurate about the game, him and his reports. The great ones take pains to describe in detail the facts and trust their readers to draw their own conclusions.

Borges chooses to insult us and preach from his self-appointed position of flawless insight. Of course!

Ron Borges thanks you for posting that link.

Why do we continue to give this stupid, talentless, plagiarizing bag of **** attention?

**** Ron Borges.

1. Borges is a cranky old man. He sucks.
2. The only booing I heard on the TV was when Bolden quit on a route.
3. See #1

I agree. He is so boringly predictable in his anti-patriot schtick that I refuse to watch or listen to any show he's on. I know I'm not alone in this practice. In fact I wonder if there is a tech savvy member who can produce a petition we can send to NESN, WEEI, the Herald and channel 4 to let them know that there is a growing number of watchers and listeners who are turning them OFF whenever he comes on.

BTW- its not only because he's an arrogant, smarmy, bully who thinks he's smarter and better than anyone else, its because he doesn't ever have anything to new to offer. He has no sources inside the organization, he has a very marginal knowledge of the game, and he has a VERY personal agenda that everyone's heard already.

I turn him off not only because I hate his guts, but because there really isn't a reason to listen to him.

RB isn't a paying for anything so he is the "realistic" one. Of course.

Cheap, ******* bastard.

Yet another in a long line of Borges' patented "Hey look at me" articles.

I think it's kinda funny how that dude is so hated around these parts.

I mean with good reasons I am sure but he sure is one dis-liked dude.

He really does not even register on my radar.

Breer I find more pompous, and I think that stems from the fact that he believes that he should be respected as a journalist to receive the team info he requests, and he never does.

Enough thread hi-jacking....Ron...stund!

After reading that I'm SO angry at Mike Sando for writing such a thing!

Realistically, Ron Borges is just butt hurt that he cannot attend Pats games in person for fear of contracting facial smashatosis....

I noticed that every poster ignored the issue.

Fans booed the patriots in the first half. I understand that many here think that to be a fine way to root for your team; it is a right that is paid for with the ticket. Many don't agree.

correction, the fans booed the second SERIES in the 1st half...and it was a smattering...I love you guys that damn the entire fanbase for the actions of a few...and yes I was there ...and NO , no one within the section I was in was booing. The reason people were dissatisfied was the play calling and implementation. When the team looks like it's seeing the field for the first time in the season, some fans, understandably, will get upset by shoddy performance.

You make it sound like this is a Patriots fan specific reaction...it isn't.

Fine.

I was reacting the lack of addressing the issue, which you did indeed address. On the TV audio that I heard, I could hear lots of boos. BTW, this was not mentioned by the announcers. I am glad that this activity was a smattering.

I'm just thankful they looked up from their smartphones and made a noise.

Even if that happened, he'd look the same.

I am in the camp that booing is a fan's right. I had far more problem when fans booed Wilkerson being injured because they thought he faked an injury. I have no problem the fans booing when this team struggles. If the players can't handle it, play better.

Other than the one example I stated, I fault the fans when they aren't loud when the opposing offense are in 3rd down or other critical situations. There is an unwritten contract for fans of all teams to make noise in those situations.

Ron Borges and another ad nauseum rehash of booing and cheering (or lack thereof). Just what I need!!
(NOT)

Staying on topic and addressing the issue. I was at the game as well and I can attest the boos only came out once in the 2nd or third series as we were getting set to punt.

I think this particular round of boos was real annoying to me as it was so early in the game. They didnt even really give the team a chance to show what it was capable of that day. It was carry over frustration from a game played 10 days earlier and was not fair at that point in time.

Personally I dont think the fans should ever boo a team that so consistantly wins like the Pats do. IMO its one thing to wear a paper bag or express criticism of team that is in the basement. But I understand that some will and while it annoys me and I dont agree with it I can write it off as reasonable but yesterday was just way to early and not a reasonable time for it to be done. And it stunk of a way to spoiled fan base not even willing to wait 10 minutes to start complaining. It was like reaching into the fridge and pulling out some meat and complaining that it wasnt cooked yet.

Oh and borges sux and I didnt read what he had to say so this is just a reaction to what I heard at the game.
