Let me start by saying that the team needs alot of work, no doubt.

But,
I'm going to go opposite of the "Beat it to death douchebag radio absoluters"
and the same on beat it to death douche bag absoluters on television.

There are no absolutes in opinions, frickin morons.

That VICTORY took me back to when the Pats were champions.

1: Dobson was beating defenders all night and that was his first NFL game, on national television, only game in town. He definitely had the jitters and a couple of times his body turned into jello when the ball was coming.
I see a bright future with Aaron Dobson. (Tom, cut him some slack).

2:Thompkins is not long for the starting lineup if he doesn't get open and make catches.

3:Edelman has the Troy Brown role. Slot receiver who can play any receiver position, return man and occasional defensive back.

4:Boyce hasn't had enough opportunities, would like to see more of him, and less of Thompkins.

5:Amendola is injured (sigh), had so much promise. Keep him out until he is 100% healthy. 6 weeks from now would be about right. Groin injuries suck for WR's. His absence will give the rookies a chance to play, which is a good thing. It will give BB a chance to see what he has for receivers.

6:Brady was frustrated. So was I, but I went into the game expecting anything, even a loss. TB needs to keep plugging away and keep mentoring them young WR's. It was nice to see some long throws.

7:Offense performance looked real ugly. Eliminate the drops by open receivers and the PATS could have scored over 30.

8:Gostkowski has to go.... missing 43 yard FG's is unacceptable. Long kickoffs are nice, but I would rather have a reliable FG kicker from 45 yds in.
I'm probably nitpicking but come on, I want a money kicker with gonads of steel.

9id I say Edelman is in the Troy Brown role. They need to extend him for the right money.

10: Defense had a good game even though it was against a rookie QB.
Spikes looked a little off, but I like what I see.

11:Jets defensive line is loaded, defensive backs were getting beat. It's still early but Rex will probably have a top 10 defense again.

12:Jets offense is in the same boat as the PATS, young WR's and 1 TE.
Oline looked good and Geno could be a really good QB. Physically gifted but mentally challenged?

13:Losing Donald Thomas was bigger than losing Welker.
They had their RG and should have ponied up the cash.
Connely (too lazy to look it up), is a better center than guard.
Hopefully Cannon can take that position and dominate.

I know Welker??
I think BB and his staff saw too many playoff drops from Wes, and that is why he is not here.

14:The PATS are 2-0 in the division playing ugly.

Pats offensive lineup after Thanksgiving:

LT: Solder
LG: Mankins
C: Wendell
RG: Cannon
RT: Volmer
TE: Gronkowski
WR: Amendola
WR: Edelman
WR: Dobson/Boyce
RB: Ridley/Vereen
QB: Brady

It's a marathon not a sprint

  1. The team is winning division games while developing.
  2. Hopefully they reach their potential by December.
  3. Schedule is going to get tougher really fast. The development process needs to accelerate.
  4. The offense's best three weapons did not play last night.

In some ways this team is like the ones from the early 2000's. But those teams had a better defense, TB was asked to just manage the game early on.

The Patriots have a solid foundation with this offense. They just need to start building on that. Some players aren't available yet due to injuries, but they'll be back. The rookies just need more practice and a better understanding/chemistry with TFB and they'll be fine.

It's a case of growing pains. New England has the right tools, they just need to get comfortable with them.

Excellent post other than this.

Please.

He's 5-6, 83.3% with a placeholder who has never held in his LIFE before 96 hours ago.

He won the first game of the season on the road, going 3 for 3 and calmly hitting the game winner at the gun.

Where's that blonde crew cut chick from those 1980's commercials to scream "Stop the Insanity!!"

Thompkins was getting open last night and made as athletic a catch in the endzone as we've seen in awhile.

Ok, so it wasn't a catch but he did everything right on that play, you can't lay out any more than he did.

Dobson has a bright future even though he was a high pick and kept making drops, yet UDFA Thompkins should lose his job.

Good thing this post isn't called rose colored consistency.

My personal favorite is the poster who called Thompkins a "bust"!

Yeah, they gave up all that non-draft position and all that rookie minimum for that guy!

If they start getting there act together after the NO game and build toward the playoffs that will be fine with me. If not we will be out in the first game of the playoffs. This team hasn't met a good QB and good set of receivers with a fair defense. Watch what happens with Atlanta and NO and maybe Cinn, deep trouble. Win one or more of those three games and we will have had great improvement.

Last years 2nd half of the schedule performance on defense can be used as a gauge for this years defense.
Pretty much the same team except for Kelly.
One more year of seasoning.
Don't sweat the D.

I was disappointed in the performance of the rookie receivers as well. I wasn't expecting perfection by any means but thought it would be biased towards the positive. That didn't happen, but the upside to that is there will be plenty to take from this performance for these kids.

About the only thing I hated last night was Tom behaving like a petulant child towards his receivers. This is very unbecoming of him and he needs to work on this.

I'm feeling good about Thompkins.

Dobson? I really am scared the Patriots missed on him at this point.

Vanderdrunk was one of the most accurate kickers in NFL. (shrivelled when it counted).

I've seen too many misses and who would you rather have kicking a playoff game winner?

He scares me, even through the Rose Coloured inconsistent glasses.
Maybe it's time for a new prescription?

it looks like tom is understandably more upset about messed up routes or confusion than he is drops. That is when he was animated.

I realize those Dobson drops were catchable but they weren't the easiest. I don't think Tom had his best night and the running game pretty much blew - give a little credit to the jets D.

I think all these receivers will get a lot better really soon - I also think the jets will surprise some this year (I just threw up a little)

I too have little confidence in Ghostkowski in a tight game. And I'm not basing that off of this years stats. No excuse for that miss last night. The ball was placed in the middle of the field and the hold was down.

Ah, so you're basically telling Vataha he needs to go take a Powter!

(I love it when I can do a favor with a pun)

Pass me a pair. I am ready to move on from last night. As others have pointed out, the rookies WERE getting open. They just have to get their timing/placement down with Brady.
