Run on over to Gillette, he's there on quite a few Sundays.
The phenomenon of fans thinking the backup QB is the greatest thing since sliced bread is nothing new, but it never ceases to amaze me.
With Mallet we've got a QB who has barely shown himself to be better than Tebow - and while everyone seems to hate Tebow, salivating at the thought of him being cut, for Mallet some seem to think he's going to bring a substantial draft pick in trade
Last month one fan here proposed franchising him next year so that we can secure a first round pick - but advocated retaining both he and Brady if Mallet did not command a first round pick (to go with his franchise salary) as Brady's contract would make Mallet's franchise tag salary affordable. (I kid you not.)
I find both the Mallet love and the Tebow hate kindof creepy.
can one hope Belichick cuts Tebow and trades Mallet at the same time? :nono:
I don't see why people assume that Mallett has no value or is only worth a 6th round pick. Brian Daboll was the Chiefs' OC a year ago and said that Mallett would have started for them. Cassel is now in Minnesota, about half a step behind Ponder for the starting job. You people are telling me that the Vikings wouldn't give up a mid-round pick for an upgrade on the Ponder/Cassel duo? According to a guy who has seen a lot of Cassel and a reasonable amount of Mallett, it sounds like that's what Mallett would be.
At this point, all we really know is that no team has offered enough for Belichick to be willing to trade him. What he wants, nobody really knows.
If Brady goes down we are completely done for the season
If Brady goes down, it's season over, anyway.
The team didn't make the playoffs in 2008. So yeah, the season was over in Week 1.
A point to ponder: "Brady starts all 16 games" and "Brady goes down for the season" are not the only 2 possible paths.
Suppose Brady suffers a mild injury that will knock him out of, say, games 3-8. And suppose you've just cavalierly dumped the team's backup QB who could have kept them competitive in those games.
...If Brady goes down, it's season over, anyway. You find a veteran backup who might be capable of not killing you for a week or two, and then you hope you never need him...
Ivan and Belichick90210 acknowledge that Tebow should be on the roster.
Pas have to trade Mallet and the time is now.
At this point I don't think Mallett has shown enough to bring in anything on the trade market and I don't think he will. My prediction is he walks in FA for a team where he can compete for a starting job.
Or is he an RFA or something this year? I can't be bothered to google.
