We always try and win; but that is different than a win now approach, a win now approach is what the Florida Marlins do every 4-5 years where they mortgage their future spend big hoping for 1 championship season and then have a firesale because their approach is not sustainable over an extended period of time.
Apples and oranges.

Baseball, as far as I know today, does not have a hard salary cap.

We also brought in A Wilson and Kelly, both pro-bowlers.

But your point is well-taken; it is relatively rare that the patriots go after flashy free agents other than our won.

We signed or replaced all of our own. We lost only Welker, Woodhead, Thomas and Chung. We signed Amendola, Washington, Blount, Svitek and A Wilson.

Also we cut Love and Deaderick. We brought in Kelly. We are still short a backup DT.

Bringing in Will Svitek, Leon Washington and LaGarrette Blount is evidence to you of "Win NOW" mode ? Really ? Are you serious ?

The New England Patriots organization currently do not place as high of value on wide receivers than tight ends. Thus, Tebowites (not you) should not dictate to PatsFans how salary cap dollars should be allocated and to what positions.

Re: Re: Why did this team sign Tebow?

If the New England Patriots were not in win now approach, the New England Patriots would not have signed or re-signed the following offensive players:

Vollmer
Edelman
Hoomanawanui
Amendola
Svitek
Washington

Nor would the New England Patriots tender Pittsburgh Steeler restricted free agent wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders.

Don't get me wrong we want to win, but we want to win over a sustainable period of time not for 1 or 2 season, the Broncos are a team I'd consider to have taken a win now approach they signed a 35 year old QB who's best seasons were already given to another team at a lower cost, so they have a 3 year window maybe until they have to rebuild.

I think what some may be missing is yes we could of signed a Bowe or a Wallace but we'd of done so at the expense of a McCourty, Solder, etc. who will require a higher salary in the next season or two, so realistically we got the best WR we could afford without decimating other positions in the long run.
If the New England Patriots tried to sign wide receiver Mike Wallace then the New England Patriots, most likely, would not be able to re-sign right tackle Sebastian Vollmer. Once again, only so many salary cap dollars to go around.

Many of us have followed every decision the patriots have made since Kraft bought the team; some for many more decades. Most have read exhaustive analysis of these decisions. So, the reality is that we know quite a bit about Patriot decision-making.

That being said, of course a coach on the current staff would know 1000 times what we know
about what is likely to happen. Actually the people with the most crucial knowledge with regard to the coming cuts are the doctors and trainers.

I call our approach the "win for 5" approach because that's how many more seasons we have Brady for and we damn sure better be trying to win for every one of those years because after that who knows what the future holds and if what we've done over the last 13 years will work.

Tebow's NFL career may be coming to a sad end.

Tim Tebow's days with Patriots may be coming to end, gets no playing time vs. Lions | Y! SPORTS | Dan Wetzel

DETROIT – Tim Tebow spent most of this Thursday night – perhaps one of his fleeting few remaining as an NFL quarterback – standing near the 50-yard line of the New England Patriots sideline.

When the Pats were on defense, he'd sometimes casually flip a ball around by himself. When they were on offense, he'd put his helmet on, ready to go in – whether at QB or any other position the coaching staff might request.

"You just prepare yourself and be ready for whenever your number is called," Tebow said.

Tebow's number was never called.

There was no mention whatsoever in any media report that the New England Patriots placed a formal offer to Mike Wallace or Dwayne Bowe.

So once again, yet another arrogant Tebowite interjects in a thread that does not provide one shred of evidence contrary to pure speculation based upon a pathetic hypothetical scenario without any consideration whatsoever to the salary cap.

Are you drunk, high, or otherwise impaired to the point where you can't follow and figure out what was actually being said in a conversation ?

Based upon the course of action, Bill Belichick values an offensive right tackle more than an overpaid, overhyped wide receiver originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers, who incidentally only recorded 836 pass receiving yards last season.

One thing that we all need to account for is that this team was struck with unforseen circumstances with Hernandez situation, our values in this past off season were set around the premise that he'd be here for the next 5+ years, had we known he was a serial killer we may of valued the free agent WR's differently.

All considered I think we have fielded a solid receiving corp against a ton of adversity.

re: Tebow's NFL career may be coming to a sad end.

One thing to keep in mind is that the whole idea of preseason is for Belichick to evaluate his players. One would have to assume that he's already been well aware of Tebow's talents and shortcomings prior to even bringing him here.

We all know that things did not go the way that Belichick planned last night. The whole idea was to play Brady + the starters into the 3rd quarter to simulate the halftime aspect. He stated that's what he had hoped to do, but sadly never got a chance.

It's hard to guess whether or not that had any bearing on the plans for the QB play, or whether or not Belichick has had a plan for keeping Tebow the whole time and just doesn't want him or his confidence under question with another bad preseason performance.

We will know in a week from now...

Mallet had a grand total of 4 whole drives iirc ? Our 2nd/3rd string defense couldn't stop a damned thing and Detroit controlled the clock for most the second half.

The comment was crystal clear and it's up to the Tebowites to provide irrefutable proof that the New England Patriots organization placed a formal offer to either unrestricted free agent wide receiver Mike Wallace and/or Dwayne Bowe.

No, the comment wasn't crystal clear. No one, not even a Tebowite, ever claimed that the NEPs placed such a formal offer.

That's you misunderstanding what has been said, and it's why I asked if you were drunk or otherwise impaired.

It's just like the FACT that no Tebowite has stated how the NEPs should have spent their FA dollars, contrary to another claim you made.

In short, you are arguing against things that no one has said or done. I.E., you are pulling a Don Quixote and are tilting at windmills.

I actually think there's a reasonable chance that may have come into play. The first "real" chance that Tebow may have had wasn't until about 10 min left in the game, and by then Mallett hadn't even had more than a couple of drives, one that ended in a 3 and out.

re: Tebow's NFL career may be coming to a sad end.

one thing I have learned about the pats and BB with preseason is the players that play the most/have the best stats in preseason don't even make the team most of the time. so with that said Tebow still may make this team

re: Tebow's NFL career may be coming to a sad end.

Before the game, it was expected that Mallett would play 1 quarter and Tebow would play none. Next week, Tebow will play 2 or even 3 quarters. If it were up to me, he'd play all four.
