And why exactly is favoritism a bad thing for football coaches? Coaches have their favorites, players that they have a special interest in, and with whom they walk the extra mile.

This whole situation smacks of favoritism at best. I just read that Tebow had been a lock to make the team before this. Based on what, I wonder? He's a nice guy, he knows God personally? He earned nothing up to this point and has earned a bus ticket out of town based on the last two weeks.
Players should be judged on performance first, not on their religion or public relations wonderfulness. It's wrong.
