TE Brandon Ford cut, CB LeQuan Lewis signed

I'm with you. I'd have preferred a flier on Sheldon Brown to LeQuan Lewis but, as I posted in another thread, any port in a storm.

And it's a storm when it comes to the Patriots at CB right now.

Agreed, I don't understand why Sheldon Brown is still out there. The guy can play; I assume he wants too much money, but at some point his demands need to come down.

Per Jeff Howe, Boston Herald:

Brandon Ford was actually waived/injured today, so he'll revert to IR tomorrow if no one claims him.

Brandon Ford was a go-to guy at Clemson. He and Sudfeld were very similar in production in college in 2012 - both averaged more than three receptions per game, both averaged more than 12 yards per reception and they scored TDs - Ford had 10 in 13 games and Sudfeld had 8 in 13 games.

He was rated 19th among TEs on one draft board right behind undrafted DC Jefferson a 6-6 TE from Rutgers who is in the Cardinals camp. I wonder how Belichick let him slip through his Scarlet Knight dragnet.

A year of conditioning, watching and learning the playbook, and sitting in on TE meetings on the IR would be great for the long term.

They signed him for the express purpose of playing in the 2nd half of the next few preseason games. Their DB depth is stretched really thin; they don't want one of the guys who can play to get hurt because of too many snaps (see DB snap count in Eagles game). The chances of Lewis actually making the 53-man squad is less than 1%.

some of these transactions after start of TC and before final cut-downs are also aimed at picking up developmental guys to stash on the PS.

Don't know if applicable in this case; but as you noted (cb health) could definitely drive seeing a CB or even two on the PS.

Ditto on Sheldon Brown. He's still a capable #2 on a lot of teams in the league. My favorite Sheldon Brown stat: 1 game missed in 11 seasons. I'm a huge Joe Haden fan and at some points the last two years I couldn't decide if Haden was making Brown look good or Brown was making Haden look good.

"A 34-year old cornerback who isn't good enough to return to the Cleveland Browns and gets penalized much too often. Did PFF miss the four-year-old note that Bruce Allen had moved on to Washington and Jon Gruden was stuck on Monday Night Football?

This is exactly the kind of player you do not want to sign: a veteran who is declining rapidly. Because you can't trust them to hold up, stay healthy and because they'll just leave you with the exact same hole on your roster a year later. Better to fix the holes now for the long term. "

NFL Free Agency 2013 Rumors: Sheldon Brown as 'solution' for Buccaneers? - Bucs Nation

take a league minimum flyer?...perhaps...I just feel "meh"...he could be done.

A player who has missed 1 game in 11 seasons is suddenly going to miss a bunch of games?
