New England Patriots ?@Patriots 18s

We've signed CB LeQuan Lewis & released rookie free agent TE Brandon Ford

4 of the 5 TEs ahead of Ford are clearly available for practice. Seems sufficient.

Seventh team in three seasons. He has barely touched the field in that time. He might be able to provide depth at corner and play special teams. This article says he was on the punting and kicking units for the Cowboys, briefly.

They signed him for the express purpose of playing in the 2nd half of the next few preseason games. Their DB depth is stretched really thin; they don't want one of the guys who can play to get hurt because of too many snaps (see DB snap count in Eagles game). The chances of Lewis actually making the 53-man squad is less than 1%.

Would not at all be surprised to see Lewis spend at least a game on our 53 with the situation we currently have at CB.

Always a worry to see someone on their seventh team at such a young age. Yes is mightn't mean anything, but it is lot of teams. Hopefully he might surprise us. One thing is for certain, he's probably really hungry. Ford being cut comes as no surprise, because barring injury, we have our TE's sorted for the season.

Right now, I'd say the depth chart goes Talib, Dennard, Arrington, Ras-IR, Ryan, Cole, and then McCourty sliding back to CB. Lewis' best shot at a roster spot would be to take Cole's spot. And Cole's best shot at a roster spot is for Dowling to stay in the tub.

So it's not a 0% chance that he'll make the team, but I think either he'd have to really impress, or a whole bunch of bad things have to happen (Dennard being jailed/suspended/not healthy week 1, Dowling IR'ed or cut, Ryan looking very bad, safety situation not improving so McCourty needs to stay at FS, Cole not being able to handle normal sized slot receivers, someone else gets hurt, someone gets busted for PEDs, someone is found to have spent too much time at Hernandez' party pad).

It would simply take the depth chart to be as it is today with few corners available for Lewis to make the team. We have a similar situation at RG.

Well I know that Brandon Ford is a Clemson guy. He got cut for, just a wild guess, another guy from Rutgers, right?

When Schiano blows the whistle and hollars "Huddle up!" on Friday, everybody, including Belichick's kid Stephen is going to crowd around and wait for last minute instructions.

I had high hopes-aroo for Brandon Ford. Never saw much of the field, don't know why.

I also was a big fad of Sudfeld even beforst he was signed.

The team needs CB help and depth, but I doubt Mr. Lewis will end up being the answer.

I'm ok with seeing what we've got through preseason and trying to add a vet on cutdown day. Unless they can grab another Talib level player for a 4th again, I'd go for that

The Brady6 talent evaluator is in need of some upgrading; I had high hopes for Brandon Ford, I also had high hopes for Tavon Wilson and Jake Bequette this season.. Should have had a V8 or stayed at a Holiday Inn Express…:bricks:

I'm with you. I'd have preferred a flier on Sheldon Brown to LeQuan Lewis but, as I posted in another thread, any port in a storm.

And it's a storm when it comes to the Patriots at CB right now.

Dowling and Dennard are back at practice, so perhaps not that dire...

Thanks man! There was a level of comfort in finally accepting being hopeless I must say

Definitely good news, although I still think that it's prudent to assume that you're getting nothing from Dowling, and treat any contribution as a welcome and unexpected bonus.
