Cowboys make Offer to Brian Waters

The Pats cut him during the offseason. They get nothing for him.

Great RG.

Huge pain in the ass.

Hopefully he's happier being close to home.

Brian Waters released by New England Patriots - NFL.com

Six-time Pro Bowl guard Brian Waters' tenure with the New England Patriots quietly ended Tuesday.

Waters played very well for the Patriots in 2011 but then did not report to the team in 2012. Many expected Waters eventually to show up, possibly with an improved contract, but that never took place. There also were reports he'd be willing to play for a team closer to his Texas home, but the Patriots never relinquished his rights.

The standoff ended Tuesday when the Patriots released him off their Reserve/Did Not Report list. (As pointed out by our old friend Brian McIntyre of Yahoo! Sports.) Waters had a great career before the odd ending, making two All-Pro teams. At 36, it seems unlikely that Waters will try to make a comeback in 2013.

To him, I say "Suck it, sir."

As I said in another Waters thread, he'll be a fine addition to their team for HOME games.

When it's time to get on the airplane, he'll promptly sit in the corner, sulk and pout.

The offer included a front porch to be airlifted to each game, a rocking chair and a whittlin' knife.

Part of me wants to see him signed just so we get some updated pictures. There were reports that he was very overweight this offseason, and I'm curious if he reached Alge Crumpler level yet.

send along a case of these pacifiers

Why would he bother? If there's one team I immediately rule out of Superbowl contention after the Jets it's the meddling Jerries.

The Cowboys need a lot help with their interior OL (particularly at RG) and he gets to make good chunk of change to play close to home.

Good riddance. The guys looking for a cushy retirement plan

Yeah, there's been reports that both parties have some level of mutual interest as of last week; but the report that DAL finally made him an offer only recently surfaced yesterday.

Waters' main gripe was that he wanted to play for either HOU or DAL, so that he could remain close to his family where he resides in Texas. He stated that last year at some point while he was in the midst of holding out.

Stephen Jones recently stated last week that they were definitely in the mix for a vet interior lineman presence and would be sniffing around to do so. Then we saw them reach out to both Waters and B.Moore about 4-5 days ago, but when Moore retired the next day that left them with only one real option at the moment.

Waters publically stated that he'd go to DAL for "the right money," so we'll have to see what that kind of money is.

It's also been reported that Waters has put on a few lbs. Obviously he's got to be somewhat out of shape by now. The Cboys may not get a great return on their investment on this one, but it's probably better than anything else they'll be able to do at this point in time.

he's 36 years old and has not played football in over a year so he's going to be out of shape so im not sure the cowboys will offer him as much as he wants I say he retires

You may be right, but the Cboys are a bit desperate at the moment too, so the possibility remains that they may overpay a bit. They caught the attention of Brandon Moore enough to get him to agree to a deal the night before he retired, so anything's possible I think.

Like I said, I'd have to seriously doubt that they get a proper return on their investment if he does sign, but it's likely better than they'd be able to do anywhere else this late in the game. Either way, we'll know soon enough.

A grown man is blessed to have the ability to play in the NFL. To follow a path many can only dream of following. And what does he do? The big baby doesn't want to play so far away from home, boo fecking hoo if you ask me. Now here in Ireland, we are about the same size as the State of Indiana. Yip we're pretty small alright. So I suppose if Waters was born here and moved to the States. Then you could probably understand him whining about being far from home.

But he wasn't born here, he was born in the US. So shouldn't he understand that due to the nature of his profession, long distance travel/spending time away from home is a basic fact of life? He is a complete idiot for what he did last year and he doesn't deserve a contract with any team if you ask me. No doubt the Cowboys will give him a free Cot to keep him happy and probably threw in a Nanny with a years supply of diapers to seal the deal.
