We are lucky to have Amendola

He's getting paid more in Denver.
He's going to be the #1a/#1b option with D. Thomas
He'd be the #3 option here in New England
He got completely shafted and lowballed by the FO after he took a leap of good faith and was bitter

Welker was completely in his rights to do what he did, and I don't blame him for one second.

He did fall asleep in free agency. He just should have held out like Mankins did, because playing hard ball is clearly the only way to get paid the contract he wanted.

It's not that Krafts are cheap, just BB plays to win, not for sentiment. Welker trusted the Patriots too much and got shafted for it. It's not like he held out and demanded a trade to the Broncos. He took more money, more years, and a bigger role playing for a championship contender.

You're wrong:

Robert Kraft: Patriots offered Wes Welker a better deal - The Denver Post

PHOENIX — Four days after Wes Welker was introduced as the newest Broncos wide receiver, Patriots owner Robert Kraft went on the offensive at the NFL meetings.

Kraft said Monday that Welker's agent, David Dunn, "overvalued" Welker on the open market and said he believed Welker was offered a better deal to stay with the Patriots. According to Kraft, the Patriots offered Welker a two-year contract worth $10 million plus incentives.

Welker's deal with the Broncos is a two-year contract worth $12 million. It includes a $4 million signing bonus and a $2 million base salary for this season. Next year, Welker will have a $3 million base salary and a $3 million bonus.

Kraft said the Broncos' deal was essentially a one-year affair. Kraft said the Patriots' last offer to Welker would have given $8 million in salary and bonuses to Welker this season.

"We just couldn't give Wes what he wanted," Kraft said. "We, in fact, offered him a better deal."

And, in further detail:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nf...s-kraft-blames-welker-agent-contract-broncos/

Welker accepted a two-year, $12 million contract to join the Broncos last Wednesday. Though reports were New England's offer was for $10 million over two years, Kraft said with incentives Welker could have earned $16 million in 2013-2014 with the Patriots, providing he performed comparably to his recent production level. Kraft said while Welker will earn $6 million from Denver in 2013, he could have earned $8 million in New England with incentives this season.

"In Wes's case, we were willing to go what we considered above his market value,'' Kraft said. "I really believe in this case, his agents misrepresented, in their mind, what his market value was. When you come right down to the bottom line, he accepted a deal in Denver which is less money than what we offered him.

"In fact, he has a one-year deal in Denver for $6 million. Our last offer.....was a $10 million offer with incentives that would have earned him another $6 million if he performed the way he had the previous two years. But in Denver, he's going to count $4 million against the cap this coming year and $8 million the second year. There is no guarantee that he plays the second year there.''

Welker will be the 3 in Denver too, behind Decker

I am not one of those who is gonna bad mouth Wes. He is one tough SOB, and gave everything he had for this team. I appreciate him and still do.

For the 60 minutes he is on the Foxborough field playing against us then obviously a Patriots fan would cheer against him.

It is really that simple, he has made his decision and moved on. He was an excellent employee, let's all move on too...

And because his hair really does look fake?

He used the same doctor in Connecticut for that, that TFB used.

Just sayin'.......

I'll give Wes a standing O during warmups/intros - - and then root for the Pats to 45-0.

I'm rooting for him. We'll see in time if it was worth to downgrade to someone 80% of Welker's ability that's injury prone but 5 years younger.

Welker's Patriot Average:

112 receptions 1,243 yards 6 TDs 11ypc

Amendola 2012 pro-rated 16 games:

92 receptions 969 yards 4 TDs 10.5ypc

2013-2017:

Wes Welker - 32-36 years old
Danny Amendola - 27-31 years old

Thanks for everything, Wes - - you were one of the greatest Pats ever.

The hair doctor did a much better job with TFB (maybe Gisele supervised). Wes looks like he's wearing a toupee.

I appreciate all Welker did as a Patriot but my days of cheering for him are over.

Wes was so good for us. I can understand rooting for him to get his head knocked off during a game but let's not disrespect the guy. Those drops are painful but how many plays did he make for us? Especially during those times when Gronk/AH were injured or any other receiver not named Welker couldn't run the right route or get open to save their worthless arses.

I think it'll be the same deal with Amendola that is was with Lloyd; he was the teams obvious #1 option on the Rams and won't be with the Pats so the #s should be accurate, even with the upgrade of Bradford to Brady.

2011 Lloyd (with Orton, Bradford, Feeley, etc): 70 receptions 966 yards 5 TDs
2012 Lloyd (with the GOAT, super legend, TFB): 74 receptions 911 yards 4 TDs

2011 Lloyd: Option 1
2012 Lloyd: Option 4

2012 Amendola: Option 1
2013 Amendola: Option 3

I'm not expecting Amendola to be option 1A/1B like Wes was here, I may be wrong though.

I don't buy this. Lloyd is a player in decline, while Amendola hasn't even hit his potential yet.

I loved Wes.
I hope to love Amendola just as much.
I can't hate on either of those guys without feeling like an idiot…maybe Wes comes back one day…who knows? Deion came back even though he was a shell of himself.

There is one thing of not cheering for Wes to have a productive career as a Bronco which is understandable.......HOWEVER there is another thing by being a classless jerk and acting all juvenile by picking on his hair when last year you didn't say a thing about it because you were too busy cheering on the annual 1,000 plus yards he gave the team when we were missing at least one of the TEs all season.

Grow up dude and have a little class and respect for a player that gave his all as a Patriot....you and I are fans of a BUSINESS,Welker decided to take his Business elsewhere and that is exactly what it is,live with it and root on his replacement Danny Amendola now,I know I will....

Overreact much? As I said, I loved Welker as a Patriot. I already love Amendola as a Patriot. Poking a bit of fun at the guy's hair doesn't warrant "classless jerk." You must be projecting.

Oh, yes it has. There's a contingent here that already has written him off as "made of glass." Surprised you haven't seen them.

My jousts are all tongue in cheek. You are correct and I loved Welker. But he definitely dropped the ball (pun intended) in (A.) not signing the more lucrative deal a year ago to remain a Patriot and (B.) falling asleep and letting his agent lead him astray in free agency. I don't hate the guy, but I don't exactly wish him great success in Denver.

Seriously tunescribe if there are posts trashing Amendola you should be able to come up with one. And Kraft is a liar, they didn't want Welker and made that clear. I wish he had taken the Tennessee deal because he would have made more and wouldn't make Denver such a serious threat. The Patriots offer the year before was crap, he was right to take the franchise tag for 10 million. As far as his agent goes i think he, like everyone else, misjudged the market, but given that the Patriots were willing to pay 10 million to keep him off the market for that offseason he would have been an idiot to take 2-16. Hopefully letting him go to Denver won't cost them a Super Bowl, we'll see? i think the Patriots have the better team overall but getting manning off the field is going to be a b.tch for their defense.

Actually Tunescribe don't bother digging up posts trashing Amendola, you are probably right and there are some idiots here who would post trash like that I just put so many of the likely suspects on ignore for dumping all over Welker that i no longer see the garbage they post.

THe delusion runs deep with yoU Ivan - I won't call you a liar, like you called Bob Kraft, just continually misinformed.

You continually refuse to acknowledge that Welker could very easily be released by the Broncos after this season. You refuse to acknowledge that the easily makeable incentives would have made the Pats contract equal to or greater than the Denver one (and if e equalled his past performances would have far surpassed it), and was a TRUE 2 year deal.

I understand your passion for Wes, but you shouldn't call Kraft a "liar" unless you know all the aspects of the negotiations....and you DON'T...not even close.

The Facts are that Welker and his agent vastly overestimated the market both this off season and the last one. The Pats did him a favor giving him the franchise tag...He should have recognized it for what it was and been appreciative.

Wes was a great Patriot who represented the team very well over his 6 years with the team. We were ALL sorry to see him go. But he didn't leave because the Pats didn't want him. THey made him a very fair offer,. and he decided to take another. He should be very productive in the Bronco offense. But the odds are 50-50 that he'll have another shot at the FA market after this season.

As for Amendola, I like his skill set and potential. I think he'll be a very good slot receiver for us. However that being said, I will be disappointed if he production equals or betters what we got from Welker. Because that would mean we won't be spreading the ball around as planned. 900+ yds would be about right in the kind of offense the Pats want to build

I'm just amazed at how many people are saying that they're going to be rooting for Amendola.

That's nice, because he's PLAYING FOR YOUR TEAM!!!

Anyone who is a true Pats fan that ISN'T rooting for Amendola to succeed deserves to be hit repeatedly in the forehead wit a tack hammer.

Unless, of course, the defense takes that next step and the Patriots set a record for TOP.

You're not going to join in on the standing ovation? I wouldn't cheer for him during the game. But, Wes deserves some cheers during intros after the boos rain down on peyton.

Their offers sucked and they had 2 years to sign him and didn't bother. As far as his market goes show one other instance where a team tagged a player at 10 million for one year and their offer following it up was 2 years at substantially less than that., it's never happened before and there was absolutely no way that he or his agent could have seen that coming. And as far as the Bronco's letting him go that is purely Welker hater fantasy, it won't happen. Kraft is a HOF owner and there isn't an owner I would rather have, but he's a liar when it comes to Welker, they didn't want him, period, and his "We love Wes and wanted him here for life" is flat out total bullsh.t.

I'm going to leave it here because I had dropped this long ago and have no interest in discussing it any longer. The moron haters are going to hate and that is all there is to it. As far as I'm concerned Welker should wave to half the Patriots fans in thanks when he returns and raise his middle finger to the other half, because that's all they deserve.

What revelation are we expecting to experience in discussing Welker again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again....

Move on! Looking forward to seeing what Amendola can do.
