Gresh can be obnoxious but he does know football, and I appreciate that about him. He and Zolak bring the only credible football talk to local radio.

I think Andy Gresh is pretty good on football - he played at URI and did some college football radio. I also think Gresh is on this board on a regular basis. A lot of his Patriots info - especially cap analysis - comes right out of patsfans.com threads. Fortunately, for him, there are some good cap analysts here.

Gresh and Zo is not very sophisticated radio, but at least both guys bring personal experience playing the game, and they're at their best when they get guys like Troy Brown on the air with them.

Yeah, I agree. Both Gresh and Zolak can lapse into frat-boy obnoxious foolishness from time-to-time. But, during the football season, I think they are the best show on at any time. Once football season is done, they're done, in my opinion. They seem to be fairly knowledgeable about hockey (which I'm not), but I think they know little about basketball and baseball, and it shows via their reluctance to discuss those sports. Zo, in particular, seems to have a real grudge when it comes to the Red Sox, not that they haven't done a lot the last couple of years to warrant criticism. But, it seems almost personal with him.

So WEEI, the flagship station of the Celtics, fires Ordway, who used to do play by play for the Celtics, and than hires a Lakers fan to replace him. Who are the clowns that run that station?

I agree with the others about Gresh & Zo it's a very enjoyable knowledgeable show. Of course its competition is the worst Boston show of all time, Mut & Merloni. Getting rid of Dale & Holley was another clown move by those morons.

BTW- the best local guy for REAL Pats analysis is Matt Chatham. He is knowledgeable, clear and concise with his commentary. He always backs his opinions up with facts and doesn't make inflammatory comments just for effect. I'd love to see how he'd do commenting on other sports in a full time gig. I think he'd make a great counter to Felger's bombast. That pairing would be infinitely better than Mazzoratti and make for more entertaining radio.

The more I think on it, Mazz's best use is when he talks baseball and does his "Dirty Mazzarotti schtick" on the morning show. For everything else I think Chatham would be an improvement.

Gresch can be good on football, but his bombastic and sophomoric comentary often gets in the way of anything intelligent..

He is lucky to be where he is, the cards fell just right for him..

Agreed. Chatham is terrific.

I like Chatham a lot but I also like Greg Bedard and Tom Curran.

I don't agree with any of them all the time and there are times when I think they are off base.

But all three are knowledgeable and passionate. Bedard spends a ton of time on his Wednesday Globe columns. Curran is practical and has horse sense.

As to Ordway, my only knowledge of him is from his days as a voice of the Cs, hearing him on WEEI podcasts and hearing him on WEEI when I'm in the Boston area.

I thought he was pretty good and don't get all the hate that he seems to generate.

Chatham, Bedard and Curran are my 3 favorites in no particular order, although Tom E. sometimes makes me laugh out loud (in a good way.)

Agreed!

I keep checking this thread hoping to read that the Pink Beluga has been canned

If Ordway is out then Deossie is gone as well, and as much as people here don't want to hear it I give Ordway all the credit in the world for sticking weith him when Patriot fans were demanding they fire him. Ordway could have taken the easy route and caved to popular demand but he stood by him despite the outcry, and that's an admirable quality imo.

Not sure we'll know for a while. I'd expect the next time he might be on could be around or on draft day. I'd love it if he became history. He'd be better suited on WFAN with Porky Francessa so they could co-fellate their beloved Giants.

More the reason to fire Ordway as the man in charge if so. I wish Glen no ill will and took no joy in his dismissal. Incompetence. His job was to drive ratings. Sticking with someone who alienated an albeit small segment of a rapidly dwindling listeners was a bad management move. Even if you're close to someone personally, if they really screw the pooch damaging the business they need to be let go.

Did anyone catch the Big Show today?
Personally it seemed to me at least that the show was flat and bland...

For me, nothing with Minihane is bland. I really like him and I'm a Holley fan. So, for me, the show was great. Now, tomorrow I believe it's Pete Sheppard with Holley. Not sure I'll last long with Pete...

I think that they tanked... I wonder what the ratings were.

I love Pete Sheppard; he is fierce defending the Patriots from the douches who call and want to do stupid things like trade Brady or cut Welker...

His salary was tied into his ratings...this link shows that his million$/year contract was cut in half following the Arbitron ratings that year...

Ordway’s salary dips with ratings - The Boston Globe

He should have got rid of the pink faced idiot who really wants to be in NY. The few times I clicked on, and they actually weren't talking about the soap opera that is the MLB, and I heard that bafoons voice, click right back to 98.5. And I know I wasn't the only one.

Pete is cool. He just hangs up on callers he doesn't like or that aren't making sense. I like that.

I think you may give Ordway too much credit. Ordway, DeOssie, and Smerlas are business partners and co-hosts on NESN. He had his own personal interests to keeping DeOssie on the air beyond just his loyalty to the guy.

Personally I think it was a huge mistake firing Ordway; I think that the show will tank but that is just my opinion; others feel otherwise. We shall see... I think that WEEI fired the wrong guy; they should have fired Wolfe; he has been playing shuffleboard with peoples lives on that show instead of improving content. He is like so many obnoxious middle managers I have worked for; always changing org charts and firing people instead of making real improvements.

One way to improve content is to sober up Mikey Adams and get him to prepare for shows. Mikey is tremendously talented (great Irish accent for instance) but he comes into each show with nothing prepared and no scripts or skits.

Talented? The only thing he knows anything about is the 1960s Red Sox. His lack of football knowledge is astounding. He can't even tell you which NFL teams are in which conference. His "humor" might work for 13-year-old boys, but that's about it. That guy needs to go.
