Draft Game: Everyone can play

all these mocks look pretty good, the leonard at 3rd pick seems liek thats what everyone wants....i agree with that

i think our picks could go

1st pick - cb
2nd - lb
3rd - rb - leonard
4th - wr* - (*pick is still pending - bb can take a wr here, but he'll have to be a big wr, plaxico burress type, i say he'll "have to be big" because in the 3rd round you'll have some tall talented wr's (hopefully), the guys who are athletic enough to win the jump balls, and since brady is deadly accurate, lobbing the ball to a 6'6"-7" wr in the endzone would be beneficial, especially if the opposing dbs are all 5'9"-11", if not a big wr here, then a smaller speedy guy in the later rounds - if there isnt anyone available with these characteristics, then a db
5th - db
6th - dt - backup guy for vw
7th - cb - or again if bb doesnt get that big wr in the 3rd round, then a speedy wr here,
8th - lb

If I understand the rules correctly, we can pick ANY PLAYER BELOW THE PATS SLOT...but can't select a player above each slot.

---

Maybe PATSNUTme can clerify...

That is correct. I had to make a reach for Gonzalez at #28 he was listed around #42. But this is the guy who I think could be a special WR in the Patriots offense.

Good peeing man on Patriots Planet, just need to tweak the timing a bit.

Thanks, someone else took the Borges photo and added the animation. Depending on the time you look at it, he is right on target or a just miss.He could be making an appearance her shortly:rocker: .

Using the top 500 provided by Seneschal2, draft your Patriots players.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/6421386

Here is a list of pick #'s provided by the huddle report:

http://www.thehuddlereport.com/nickelpackage/draftorder.shtml

We now have pick #165 in the 6th round from the Cardinals.

Patriots picks are #'s24, 28, 60,91,123,165,187,196,&219.

Rules:

1. you can pick any player below
the Patriots pick #. (at #24 you can pick any player listed below #24, at #60 you can pick any player listed below #60, ect, ect.

2. no trades. Why? because that is making an assumption that a team is ready and willing to make that trade. not realistic.

3. Discuss with others but no 'your draft sucks' comments.

4. You can do a full 7 round draft if you want but you have to list your Patriots picks separately and use rule #1.

There are not winners or losers. Have fun!
:rocker:

For the next version of this we should make the following two changes to make it really entertaining. Amend rule #1 that you can go up ten value spots, so a #24 pick you can reach to #14.

Second, trades but you have to use the pick value chart to make the trade work.

http://www.nfldraftblitz.com/pick_value_chart.htm

Speaking of the NFL value chart I think it needs to be revamped since the signing length on rookie contracts has changed.

16 is 1000 points and a 6 year deal
17 is 950 points and a 5 year deal

32 is 590 points and a 5 year deal
33 is 580 points and a 4 year deal

There has to be a bigger difference in these now taking this into account.

I think it is amazing that at this early stage of the draft process, so many of the same guys appear on peoples picks. I was torn between Spencer and Ross. Many have Davis ( I bet he rises before the draft). It does look like i'm the only one that is high on Gonzales.

I like him but I can see them trading up to the top of the second to grab him. I think he could fill the Branch/Patten role for a long time to come.

I think it's partly a function of the way you structured the game. If you've decided you're taking a CB with 24, there aren't too many options on the list given those that get picked 1-23.

I think this year also, we're all pretty much agreed what the need is.

24. Robert Meachum, WR, Tenn
28. Chris Houston, CB, Arkansas
60. Stewart Bradley, ILB, Nebraska
91. Prescott Burgess, ILB, Michigan
123. John Wendling, S, Wyoming*
165. Zak DeOssie, ILB, Brown
187. Reggie Lewis, CB, Florida**
195. Jeff Rowe, QB, Nevada***
219. Jacoby Jones, WR, Lane

*grades at 64 on Insider, 148 on Fox
**God rest his soul
***approximates 6th round compensatory pick

summary: 3 ILB, 3 DB, 2 WR, 1 QB

The trade up concept works if your trade value is at least the minimum to get you up to the player you want, with this draft I'd be happy to see some wheeling and dealing to get specific players.

Ok, let's give it a go. Keep in mind my draft board is not set up yet, and I've just started researching some guys:

Hey Dryheat, are we having the pick 'em contest again this year? Like where one poster gets a certain team and we go throughout the draft.

I agree on all counts.

#24 Brandon Meriweather SS Miami

#28 Jarvis Moss DE FL

#60 Brian Leonard FB Rutgers

#91 Buster Davis ILB Florida St

#123 John Wendling FS Wyoming

#165 Zak DeOssie ILB Brown

no clue about the later round picks to be honest

IMHO, projecting trades only makes sense when you're doing a full 32-team mock. E.g.: "OK, at #6 the top 2 DLs are off the board so the Redskins are looking at a pretty flat value group. Meanwhile Brady Quinn is still available, it makes sense for Miami to leapfrog Minnesota and Texas to grab him." Just playing with draft value chart numbers to get dream players for your own team doesn't do it for me.

But there's always teams like Miami or Washington who need picks or a team like Green Bay last year who had so many holes they just kept trading down to get more. I agree that's tricky to predict but it's not like any of us will get more than a pick or two right from the Pats actual draft any way.

Seymour That was my deal and yea i am trying to do it again i am looking for 32 people this time and hopefully help from a mod and a set time for everyone i just haven't have much time to plan it and i'll take any help i can get

Well I'll gladly take part as the Cowboys if I may.

Maybe we can aim for Sunday, April 1?

I'm not picking anyone from a team that lost to Army... at its home stadium. (I was was there, in the Army section, that was a great comeback by Bobby Ross's boys... really impressed by the Army fans)

Baylor? I thought you were a big Aggies fan, Sey.

Edit: Would someone like Georgia's Charles Johnson be a good fit as a 3-4 OLB? BB seems reluctant to use people who played LB in college. Perhaps he's worth a look. I also agree that an RB may go higher than many would expect, as the RB corps needs a little more youth.

Not really. Very high on him also. There were several players I would've like to pick, but either the value was better with a different player, or the opportunity wasn't there.

My list, like most others, will undoubtedly change after the Combine and workouts. Heck, my main board isn't nearly completed yet -- still lots of weeding out left to do. Then comes the final Pats board...

In the meantime, this is fun -- thanks PATSNUTme for having the idea...and then taking the initiative to start the thread. :rocker:

very preliminary:

24: lamar woodley olb UMICH
28: michael griffin s texas
60: brian leonard rb rutgers
91: tarell brown cb texas
123: quinn pitc*ck de the ohio st
165: zak deossie ilb brown
187: mike walker wr ucf
196: chris leak qb uf
219: steve breaston wr UMICH

i think woodley could become a merriman like player at olb
i like griffin, but still have more hw to do on him
leonard imo would be a steal there
breaston becomes the punt returner rookie season
