I know it could very well affect welker or vise versa but i think they need this guy back. We saw some of his explosive plays this year especially in the jets game. Almost like a woodhead type player

Edelman and Welker should have nothing to do with each other's signings.
If cheap, Edleman is a useful player. If he wants to be paid like a big boy WR, he will have to find it elsewhere.

sure......for the minimum.....with as little guaranteed as possible

roster competition is a good thing

if they let welker walk in FA..i think they resign edleman to take his spot. But if welker is back..i can still see edelman back for the #3-4 spot if they get no other WR

Actually, Hernandez would be taking his spot with hopefully an absolute stud WR coming in for the money that Welker wanted and Ballard manning the other TE spot opposite Gronk.

Edelman is a valuable ST player and WR4. In no galaxy is he taking Welker's position.

It's time for bill/kraft to be cold hearted again and let welker and woodhead walk in order to move in a different direction.

I think Edelman comes back, sure, most definitely. Like you said, it really shouldn't cost that much to retain him, and Belichick values special teams and versatility.

I also think that they've been at least "trying" to continue his development of possibly being more of a contributing WR. Whether or not that ever comes to fruition is anyone's guess. We know that he does have a little speed at times, and can juke and make moves with the best of them. I think moving forward, those kinds of players may be able to offer a bit of creativity to the offense...Demps, Edelman, Vereen.

In a worst case scenario, he can also attempt to take over some of the slack in the slot, should Welker go down for any length of time. Of course we all know the downside would likely be a big dropoff, but he still can fill the role to some degree.

Won't even be needed in special teams if jeff demps plays.

The patriots have way to many running backs with not enough balls to hand off to them .

I'll take Edelman back for the minimum. Otherwise he's not really needed.
If they don't resign Welker (and I hope they can come to a 2-3 year agreement), then I'd prefer they sign a big outside receiver in his place (as Gronk and Hernandez already do a decent job in the middle).

It's hard to imagine the offense being quite as productive minus #83, at least for me.

The thought of letting him go is certainly a possibility though, but I never want to see Welker not out there with the offense.

Wow, I am shocked to hear you say that.

It's only your 967th post on that topic.

Ummm... we get it.

"Welker BAD... BAD BAD Welker"

Anonymous unknown replacement GOOD.... GOOD, GOOD anonymous substitute,

a to-be-named guy that's guaranteed to make 120 catches with zero drops while stretching the field, running perfect routes, never getting hurt, and making minimum salary.

If welker wants to be payed like a top 5 receiver the patriots would be better off finding someone who can actually play like one.

Wes welker and edleman do their jobs good, but they can be replaced.

Yeah but anonymous substitute is awesome. One good game player is really good too. In either case they're always better than proven player.

Kick returns are a different animal than punts. I'd rather keep both around until Demps proves he can be as good at PR in the NFL as Edelman has proved to be.

Edelman has also proved to be a solid reciever. Demps has a lot to prove before he replaces the very versatile Edelman.

Wes welker can be replaced.
Oh yeah, by whom?

Chad "Ochostinko" Johnson
Anthony Gonzalez
Jabar Gaffney
Donte Stallworth
Deion Branch
Jeremy Ebert
Greg Salas
Kamar Aiken

The patriots will most likely run it more than in the pat. Otherwise, what's the point of having four very good running backs on the team?

Why you gotta name 3 players on the verge of retirement, 1 that is out of the league, a rookie, practice squad guy and a 2015 pick trade that got cut?

Seriously, Welker can be replaced but it's gonna be to an established player and its gonna cost.

Ya'll are out of your minds if you think keeping a 32 yr old Wes Welker and paying him the 9+ million over 3+ years he wants is good for the team instead of getting a younger better player for similar money.

I like him because he's versatile and he was just starting to show what he was made out of. I think his ceiling is higher than what i originally thought. Resign him, let welker walk, sign a WR in FA like bowe jennings whoever take your pick, and draft a WR in 1-2nd round.
