It would be interesting to know what the ratings were in New England to watch the Jets suck.

The embarrassing brand of football ESPN aired to the nation this week on “Monday Night Football,” and the game’s pitiful rating — down 27% from the Week 15 “MNF” broadcast last year — provided further evidence that the league’s gamble on Rex Ryan and the Jets didn’t pay off. Make no mistake, the NFL delivers the slate of games to ESPN in the spring, and while network execs can lobby for upgrades, the NFL sets the sked.

Dysfunctional NY Jets can make noise but can't bring in TV ratings - NY Daily News

Trevor Pryce writes in the NY Times that Rex Ryan's problem is that he is too nice of a guy and human being:

Nice-Guy Ryan Gets in the Way of Coach Ryan - NYTimes.com

So you telling me that a players' coach has a short shelf life? I never saw that one coming.

BTW, this part of the article made me want to puke:

The day is going to come when his player and coaching decisions will be made with the same cutthroat efficiency that you find in places like New England, Baltimore and Philadelphia. Ryan will realize he has no choice but to develop that same poisonous “him or me” attitude that permeates almost every other head coach in the N.F.L. And on that day the Jets will gain one of the better head coaches in the league. At the same time they will lose one of its better human beings.

yes, what a wonderful, caring , giving human being Rex is...why, here he is in one of his more giving moments....

Look at that jolly fellow...what a funner he is...every mom's dream...

If every team had the exact same talent level on its roster, and commanding an N.F.L. sideline involved nothing more than X’s and O’s, Ryan would be one of the more revered coaches in sports. He is a brilliant strategist, a man who works to the point of exhaustion and possesses a passion for and knowledge of football that is unmatched. Combine that with the fact that no coach in the N.F.L knows how to get more out of less, and you have the makings of a perennial championship contender.

Wrong. Rex Ryan does not have a "passion for and knowledge of football that is unmatched." He acts like a buffoon half of the time and does not respect the game. His knowledge of football is proven on the defensive side of the ball, but he shows no insights whatsoever on special teams or on offense. "Unmatched?!?" That is total crap - Rex isn't in the top 20 of knowledge of the game.

The last sentence is patently ridiculous - Rex knows how to get the least out of more, if you ask me.

Bill Belichick, Marty Schottenheimer, **** Vermeil, Tom Coughlin, Steve Fisher are all guys who get a lot out of whatever talent they have on hand. Rex is what his record says he is career wise - six games over .500 and sinking.

yeah..if this and if that...He's the best!!!...reads like a post mortem...but knowledge of football??...seriously?...he knows his dad's 46..if he's feverishly still studying it after 40 years well....OK, if this guy says so...offense? Rex Ryan feverishly studies his team's offense? if that is true he's obviously got comprehension issues or is just dumb as a bag of broken hammers....and I still feel bad for how furiously Rex studied special teams and then was shut out of the loop by his strength coach gofer,Sal Alosi, who used HIS "sideline tripper" strategy rather than Rex's unbelievable "knowledge"...please, who wrote this article, his mother???

Its an article written by a guy who kept getting paychecks from Ryan after he had no skill left. What did you exepct?

and here's Cannizarro chiming in with the same meme...

Nearly half of players on Jets roster want Rex Ryan back as coach next season - NYPOST.com

the Jets owner and brass must have made the decision and now they're lining up their press lackeys to sell it to the fanbase...as the fanbase openly revolts against the PSL sales...the part I like is "almost half the players asked" want him back and he quotes Bart Scott and Bryan Thomas..."almost half"...yeah, three or four of his closest rump swabs...this is a press leak story planted by the Jets to counter fan revolt.

In my view, wonderful human beings don't pimp their wives out on the internet. I recognize that I'm (thankfully) out of touch with contemporary big city culture so others' standards may vary.

Little nugget from Schefter ...

8. Equal pay, unequal play: Here's one of the stats of the season, and it shows why New England and the New York Jets are where they are. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez are being paid the exact same $11.75 million in salary this season. Yet in another respect, their numbers are quite different.

Brady has thrown 30 touchdown passes and six interceptions while Sanchez has thrown 12 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions. So Brady and Sanchez are making the same salary and producing at entirely different levels, explaining why New England is preparing for the postseason and the Jets are not.

I hope they get their wish.

The more years go by the more it becomes obvious to me Mangini built a pretty decent team for Rex to ruin.

Let's find out how low he can go.

I love this quote from Bart Scott in the article:

“Guys haven’t packed it in. You would be able to see if guys have packed it in, and they haven’t. Nobody has imploded, nobody has turned on each other. That’s a reflection of the respect everyone has for him.’’

Mark Sanchez and the offense says "hi", Bart.

Personally, if I am Jets' fan, player, or coach who is going to be there beyond this year, you have better hope the offense has quit or imploded. Because if this is trying their hardest and on their best game, all I have to say is "Oh, my God".

fairly convinced the whole team quit after the buttfumble thanksgiving game. they all realized they have no talent, no chance of winning at all.

they got what they deserved with sanchez and rex ryan.

:bricks::bricks::bricks:

Those numbers are wrong. Li'l Marky has thrown 13 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. He also has fumbled 12 times.

He only lost 7, but still 13 touchdowns vs 24 turnovers is ridiculous. The average int the NFL is 1.5TD's to 1 turnover. Mark was 0.5/1 this year. He turned over the ball at least once in 11 of the 14 games he started, which means in most games it was at least twice.

Just how dumb are the Jets? Well it turns out Tim Tebow, Rex Ryan and Tony Sparano all have the same agent.

So they trade picks and pay guaranteed contracts only to swallow the costs and release the players :)

Jets getting swindled by an agent.

Passion? Maybe.

Knowledge? Hell to the no.
