Ras-I Dowling placed on Injured Reserve

My wonder is,can you rebuild a secondary from scratch before Brady retires and the offense falls into oblivion?

I think there is a 3 year window remaining for Belichick to get a laughing stock of a secondary fixed to something even resembling NFL caliber before the party's over with Brady.

3 years is quite the challenge, going hog wild with at least several FA vets in the next offseason might be the only way to get it done faster.

I have given up hope that Bill will get a stud DB in the draft,it's one failed experiment after the other....thankfully he has done well in other positions to keep the team in SB contention.

yeah, id rather them draft d-linemen and offensive players (depending on the WR's of course), and simply sign DB's. whether its talent evaluation or player development (or both), the draft has not been very kind to the secondary.

I think Dimitroff did help Bill when he was here in aiding him to find some talent in the secondary,it seems much worse since Tom left for the Falcons

injured or not the guy really cant get on the field, i think he will be cut next year

The answer is: Without free agents and veterans, no.

Belichick/Krafty will do what they do almost every off season in the secondary. They'll be out looking for "value" in free agency and they'll bring in a bunch of guys with injury histories, guys on the wrong side of 30, and special teamers. This worked up until Polian had the rules changed because all these scrubs could go from scrubs to serviceable dbacks, at least for a the better part of a season, by roughing up and being physical with receivers - that's a big no no now.
So now, they actually have to find talented defensive backs, which is something they have not done SINCE the rules changed.....

Real quick, name anybody that we currently have in the secondary that's better than Talib is. Go!

He also came from a college that played mostly zone, which he excelled at. Throughout 2011, the Patriots were trying to play more man coverage and McCourty struggled. You can see his improvement in it this year, though he's still inconsistent.

So the coaches are doing a better job this year compared to last year?

Chung got extremely lucky early on. An example of that was Henne throwing the ball RIGHT TO HIM in 2010. He's never been any good in coverage and has always been a better safety against the run.

Your citing one play as an example of his lucky year? That's a lame argument. You can try to revise history as much as you want, but a lot of people would acknowledge that Chung had a good year in 2010.

Much like Chung, Arrington got lucky quite a bit last year. He caught a lot of batted and underthrown balls but was still torched when those balls weren't batted or underthrown.

Again, Arrington was never a world beater, but he was better last year compared to this year.

The point is, if it was just one player, then you can brush it off, but the trend of our DBs regressing is littered with evidence.

#Patriots announce they've promoted DB Malcolm Williams to 53-man roster to fill spot opened when Ras-I Dowling moved to IR

Guess we will be seeing a lot of Q Cole as Dime back.

You can sign ANY vet,but you need one with some nice credentials

JAG vets like Gregory are not the type of veteran that will turn your whole defense around

I would like to see someone like Quentin Jammer be added into helping the younger developing players.

Mccourty, Dennard, Arrington, Moore, Cole, Williams

What a CB group of pure UTTER greatness and talent!

You & Ken need to get your heads outta Bill's ass every once and awhile and face the fact:

Those of us who feared that Glas-IR Dowling was over-drafted by almost a full round have been
proven correct.
Even Aaron Williams would've been a better value/risk-reward pick at 33.

And that Jim Mora quote was garbage then, and it's more garbage now.

Those of you who are convinced they can judge talent better than BB et al get really tiresome.

Re: Ras-IR-Dowling officially on IR

ahh what a pick.

They should just cut this waste of space.....another blown BB secondary pick is right!!! This guy is the most injury prone pats player that we have ever had isn't he? I am sure they will just dump him at this stage...

Shawn Crable disagrees with this.

I'd maintain some optimism going forward if he hadn't proven to been a JAG out there when he was healthy. I'll eagerly be waiting for him to rehab so he can once again underwhelm us with the talent that must be in there somewhere.
