Negatives from today's game

It was a glorious victory for the Patriots and a bitter loss for the Jets. Does not get much sweeter than that for us Pats fans.

However one thing that concerned me is that the Patriots WRs just don't seem to be able to get open. The Jets were able to blanket them one on one leaving the safeties free to cover the slot of TEs. How many times did Brady go back to pass and not be able to find anyone open? Way too often. The Patriots desperately need a WR that will demand double coverage but Randy Moss is not walking through that door...

The secondary is the atrocious, everyone knows it. But I'm afraid we can't do a whole lot of things personnel wise. We have what we have, and we need to coach coach coach guys like Dowling, Dennard, or Wilson. Arrington and Chung are beyond repair. Belichick needs to spend a hell of a lot of time with this unit.

I think you are right......Arrington is one of the worst CB here overall since Duane Starks. The guy is CONSTANTLY getting BEAT or outplayed.......and is ALWAYS Late to the party. I think he needs to go......Hell Dennard can't be that much worse than him

No, the replay didn't show it. Unlike the OPI on HILL that went uncalled. But thanks for your opinion. I'll put it in the round file with all the others you've made.

You can put it wherever you want. It was OPI. When the receiver extends his arm as a means of clearing out the defender, it's OPI. It doesn't matter if the call is not made every time, because it's called often enough that it's known.

That's just the way it is.

Brady is clearly on the decline, but I can't believe the coaching staff that structured an offense around him can't run things better at this point in time. Maybe this is the end?

What are you talking about? Am i even watching the same game as some of you guys.

Brady threw 62% today no INT's 2 TD's and 250+ yards. He also had 3-5 depending who you ask balls that should have been caught that weren't. He also moved masterfully when pressure was given up the middle from the Jets OL.

He then drove us down the field twice in 2 drives for the tieing then winning field goals.

Honestly some fans on this forum...:bricks:

Re: Negatives from today's game

1. There's no creativity in defensive playcalling.
2. The secondary is still crap.
3. Josh McDaniels is attempting to reinvent the wheel.

Re: Negatives from today's game

Hernandez was wide open on that flea flicker, but those are curable mistakes.

Conveniently skipped is the failure again to produce some critical first downs in crunch time.......but it is becoming apparent to me that while Brady may be in decline, he can still lead a team to an SB ....... If the coaches smarten up

Thanks for the correction on the Jets punt returner (Kerly it was). I always thought the rule of thumb was you don't fair catch a punt at the five yard line. Odds are good it rolls into the endzone or punt coverage team runs into each other trying to down the ball. Still not sold on Vereen. Today was his largest sampling of plays but not enough for me to declare him a keeper or bust. By bad, I meant, not seeing enough of him. Hopefully we know for sure by playoff time. With Bolden out, even more Ridley please. With Lloyd, I would love to see a few early bubble screens to get him in the game. So far, I'm thinking Chad Ocho with a better attitude and I loved his signing but I also loved the Carl Crawford signing. Not to sound too negative, I still believe in Dowling.

My number 1, 2, 3 and ongoing concern is the lack of consistent Pass Rush. It's the Pats achille's heel.

I believe in this team. Even after this game I still believe that talent wise this is one of the best teams in the NFL. You don't get the #1 ranked Offense without having special players. They have improved on so many positions and still this team doesn't look as good as last years team. But that's ok ... The Giants nearly fired Coughlin last year and we know how that ended ...

I really can't remember when the passing D wasn't the main concern. Great against the run and the #1 Offense in the NFL and still this team is easily beaten by the worst QBs in the league. At least we don't have to worry about the elite QBs. They can't do a better job against this D. I mean Wilson and Sanchez both put up crazy numbers against this pass D. The better Qbs are known for throwing it into tight windows but this D is so bad in coverage you don't need to throw it into a tight window and thus even the lesser QBs of this league can torch this D. Of course the better QBs will torch this D but I've gotten used to it. What I really can't understand is why there isn't an improvement on the passing D? This team has way more talent than last year and STILL it sucks so bad. Why wasn't it properly adressed through FA or better coaching. Just remember the Houston Texans had one of the worst Ds in the NFL 2010 and now look where they are now. They always had the talent but needed a good coach to make use of it. Maybe the Pats should think about the same ...

I still love this Offense. Brady had a good game today (yeah he made some mistakes but all in all the receivers let him down again). The talent on this O is simply amazing and just wait til Gronk and Hernandez are both at 100% again. And pay the man FFS. Without Welker this Offense isn't nearly the same. But I really hate the play calling. You know last season there were a few moments where I thought ok not the smartest choice but with better execution it should've worked. Today I was scratching my head several times thinking ok what was he thinking (running on 2nd & 20, 3rd and long screen for example). I hope Josh McDaniels learns to use all his weapons because at key moments he makes baffling decisions

I think Lloyd alone had 3 drops including 2 deep balls, one hit him in the hands, the other in the chest. The only bad thing Brady did today was that duck he threw that Cromartie should have picked.

The Jets just closed on Brady quickly and he couldn't step up at all to make that pass. He was wide open, but the Jets made a good play. Not really a "mistake"

i have a question about cunningham's sack at the end of the game. i thought you were not able to tackle the qb from the ground. i can't remember if he was blocked into that position. anyone know why it was legal?

McDaniels ******ed play calling was more to blame today.

Re: Negatives from today's game

I think the biggest negative is at again, the coaching is the biggest weakness.

Mcdaniels needs to go......I don't know what the alternative is, but he needs to go

This is tough for me to say, because I've always been a huge Randy Moss fan, but even he wasn't that effective against the Jets (except his very first Pats-Jets game which was Revis' first game).

The biggest difference between these Pats and those Pats, to the coaches credit they are no longer trying to force the action to the wide receivers. They realize the Jets are locking down the receivers and try to go elsewhere.

Lloyd was brought in to be the receiver to stretch the field and ultimately open things up for welker. They tried a few times today but ultimately it didn't happen.

He's better at safety to me.

Maybe DMC's a little better at safety, but he still is pretty solid at CB and has been the only CB on this roster who'll play decently most of the time. We need him at corner as you saw today. We also need to make Tavon Wilson a backup for a while. He's not quite ready yet.

I know Gregory's not very special, but he has more experience.

Chung, I know he is what he is, but he's better than the way he's played this year. If he can at least get back to last year's form, that'll help.

I saw Dennard get beat often at times today, but he made a few nice plays including the pick.

Arrington got his usual roasting at the beginning, and while he was still struggling he did manage to make a few decent plays later in the game.

Dowling had that holding call early on, but he did make some solid break-up's later on. But it still looks like he isn't 100%.

To put it in a nutshell Wilson and Arrington were the ones that got torched the most. I didn't see McCourty often on defense, which is a good sign. Dowling and Dennard got beat, but still made some strides.

When they showed the replay, you could see Lloyd push off pretty hard. It was quickly done and easy to miss. I am surprised they saw it but it did look like OPI to me. All around I thought Triplette and crew called a pretty good game today -well, except maybe not enough holding called on the jets oline. They had Wilfork in a choke hold quite often.

I hate to agree with DB but you cant call the opi on lloyd and not call it on Hill.

He should have had the first one and dropped it, the last one also. He was terrible today. I get wanting to keep the defense honest but we shouldn't be taking 5-6 shots downfield per game, that isn't the strength of this team.

The usual script when we are up by fewer than 7 at the end of the 4th:
1) Get the ball.
2) Go three and out
3) Let them kill our secondary
4) Lose the game

We didn't do number 4 today, thank goodness.

The 'win is a win' crowd is a bit strange. Yes, in terms of the standings, that is all that matters. But that doesn't mean you don't worry about what you could do better. You think BB says a win is a win, and doesn't look at the tape? He is going to be serving a lot of humble pie tomorrow.

Our secondary was better than last week, so that is good. They seemed to be looking for the ball a bit more. They obviously listened to my posts here.

Let's hope for a win against the Rams, and perhaps Josh McDaniels will stop calling silly trick plays every game, Lloyd catches the accurate passes, and we can get a higher red zone percentage after a breather.

Happy with the win, yes, but I was a lot happier after 45-3.

So why did Ninko try to run with the fumble recovery?
