The 2012 season: the Jets [Mod Edit: STILL] suck

I just stumbled across this, and am amazed (see quote in bold):

Tim Tebow, New York Jets open 2012 NFL regular season Sept. 9 against Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium - NYPOST.com

The Jets have four prime-time games on their schedule, highlighted by the meeting with the rival Patriots on Thanksgiving night.

“Oh man, that one’s going to be a beauty, there’s no doubt,” Jets coach Rex Ryan said. “It’s a late-night one. Our fans will be ready to roll. I know New England is a tremendous team. It’s going to be a great challenge for us.

“I hope my wife’s got the green bean casserole ready for after the game.”

Heres my favorite part of this tidbit.

For Mark Sanchez, the Opposite of Coddling - NYTimes.com

Greg Cosell, at the NFL Films blog, reviewed 2011 tapes of Cam Newton and Matthew Stafford. His conclusion: They were even better than he thought. He added this:
Let me bring you back to 2009. As I was preparing for that year’s draft,I remember watching Stafford and then immediately putting in a tape of Mark Sanchez. The difference in the way they delivered the ball was unmistakable from film study. There were throws Stafford could make that Sanchez couldn’t, and more importantly, wouldn’t even attempt because he knew he couldn’t. That’s the element that is always overlooked by those who minimize arm strength: The confidence and willingness of quarterbacks like Stafford to pull the trigger on tight window throws that demand velocity. Those throws are often the difference between winning and losing.

Any sightings of "Miss Me Yet?" billboards featuring Chad Pennington?

In Sanchez's defense, sort of - Cossell seems to be saying that lack o' arm strength causes lack o' confidence, in throws you can't make anyway. This is a good thing to have no confidence in. The guy with bad arm strength and lots of confidence is pretty much the nightmare scenario.

More on Rex's plan to use his daddy's 4-6 defense this year:

NFL Videos: Jets to use famed 46 defense in 2012

Starring Quinton Coples and Muhamad Wilkerson as Dan Hampton and Steve McMichael, with Calvin Pace playing Richard Dent.
Geez, I sure hope the Patriots add a wrinkle to their offense built on short to intermediate passes where route timing and adjustments made between the Quarterback and his pass catchers are somewhat important.

what's next..the "hook and ladder" play?...the "chuck and duck" offense?...oh wait...since the fat fizzuck, Cryan, obviously has E.D. problems, they're gonna put in an "erector set" team building plan centered around hamburgers, dogs, fries and hot fudge sundaes...

Welcome to the NEW Jets for 2012!~!!

That only works if you have a QB with the ability to read defenses like Joe Montana, or a multi-purpose TE like Mark Bavaro who can dominate the middle of the field. Those guys don't exist anymore.

That "kid" looks suspiciously like a young Westhoff. Hmm ...

It's astounding how immature even the old fans are down there. I sat next to a really old guy two years ago, had to be pushing 70. He kept talking crap to a guy sitting in front of me who was wearing a Welker jersey. I got pelted by peanuts from behind the whole game.

I didn't get hit with anything. Nothing really said to me except that 65 yr old. Never seen so much stupid in one stadium before..it's amazing

They have nowhere near the personnel to make that defense work. For that matter, no team has made it work since the 1985-'86 Bears.

The 46 was run by an elite collection of players. But it was a gimmick RE overload Defense that took at least a year and half for the League's OCs to figure out, overcome, and neutralize. Sort of like the offensive gimmick of a return to the 1930s single wing, aka the "Wildcat" fad.

San Francisco's Bill Walsh figured out how to beat it with timed short passes, and the so-called West Coast, ie Paul Brown, Offense. It was seldom heard from again, although Coach Fisher at Tenessee would occasionally call it as a surprise option Defense, for a play or two.

Short, timed passes on an option route tree, is just what the doctor ordered to put the 46 back into the museum. Gee, I wonder if the Pats can play... a short option tree pass offense?

Doh... :bricks:

Right -- it had more to do with the players than the scheme. It fit that group of players perfectly. Buddy Ryan left after that landmark 1985 season and was replaced by Tobin as DC in '86. Tobin installed a more contain-oriented defense and the Bears still won 14 games that year with the defense leading the way.

Not to argue your main point, but douche is not an age related insult. One can qualify as a douche bag at 20 just as readily as at 65.

Who said it was age related? I am talking about a 65 yr old talking crap to a 20 year old in a moss jersey. douche is just what he called me

I read it that way the first time as well........but I think his point is a 65 year old man should be mature enough not to verbally insult a 20 year old kid (.........or anyone for that matter).

Got it. That would be the first time that standard was applied to a group of sports fans, in any location, of any sport, with the possible exception of baseball and soccer for children. But I get it.

Hmm ... Have you ever personally attended a Pats-Green Beans game in Jersey?
