Greg Cosell, at the NFL Films blog, reviewed 2011 tapes of Cam Newton and Matthew Stafford. His conclusion: They were even better than he thought. He added this:

In Sanchez's defense, sort of - Cossell seems to be saying that lack o' arm strength causes lack o' confidence, in throws you can't make anyway. This is a good thing to have no confidence in. The guy with bad arm strength and lots of confidence is pretty much the nightmare scenario.

Geez, I sure hope the Patriots add a wrinkle to their offense built on short to intermediate passes where route timing and adjustments made between the Quarterback and his pass catchers are somewhat important.

They have nowhere near the personnel to make that defense work. For that matter, no team has made it work since the 1985-'86 Bears.

Geez, I sure hope the Patriots add a wrinkle to their offense built on short to intermediate passes where route timing and adjustments made between the Quarterback and his pass catchers are somewhat important.

That only works if you have a QB with the ability to read defenses like Joe Montana, or a multi-purpose TE like Mark Bavaro who can dominate the middle of the field. Those guys don't exist anymore.

It's astounding how immature even the old fans are down there. I sat next to a really old guy two years ago, had to be pushing 70. He kept talking crap to a guy sitting in front of me who was wearing a Welker jersey. I got pelted by peanuts from behind the whole game.

Right -- it had more to do with the players than the scheme. It fit that group of players perfectly. Buddy Ryan left after that landmark 1985 season and was replaced by Tobin as DC in '86. Tobin installed a more contain-oriented defense and the Bears still won 14 games that year with the defense leading the way.

Not to argue your main point, but douche is not an age related insult. One can qualify as a douche bag at 20 just as readily as at 65.

I read it that way the first time as well........but I think his point is a 65 year old man should be mature enough not to verbally insult a 20 year old kid (.........or anyone for that matter).

Got it. That would be the first time that standard was applied to a group of sports fans, in any location, of any sport, with the possible exception of baseball and soccer for children. But I get it.
