Oh good! So now we can stay up late tonight and tune in tomorrow to see who they pick that no one has a clue who it is.:rocker:

I wish, just once, someone from the organization would honestly explain stuff like this. What is the freaking point of dumping a 61 for a damn 90 and a 163??? This team doesn't need bodies for training camp, it needs impact players on defense. Wilson had better produce is all I can say. And no, I don't pretend to know more than anyone else. :bricks:

And they both weigh 205. You're acting like Wilson is 175. Again, I don't like the pick but the numbers are competitive.

And he is 6' 205, at least on three sites I saw.

Let's make something clear. Many of us spend a lot of time and some money on the draft every year. But we know a fraction of what the professionals should know about the players. Anyone here that is not a professional scout, is just fooling themselves if they think they know.

Wilson is an unknown to us. But how many very good NFL players were UDFA's or total unknowns to the most avid fan? Answer: Quite a few.

I'm having fun with this pick, I don't pretend to know as much as BB or the scouts.

I think they're trying to tell you there are no guaranteed impact players at #61.

One inference -- the Patriots don't feel a major immediate need at any other position. If they did, they probably wouldn't letting their second pick of the day be so late. Similarly, they might have gambled harder on Wilson sliding, and met whatever the other need was with their first pick of the day.

Rams selected three of my favourites...
Quick,Jenkins and T.Johnson....

A few things:

First, Curry would be an OLB for the Pats. Not a DE. He's not heavy enough to play DE in the 3-4.

Second, while Still and Worthy fit the mold that the Pats usually look for in a 3-4 DE, clearly there was something we don't know about.

Third, Wilson is a CB/S, not just a safety.

Fourth, you clearly haven't been keeping up to speed on the Pats depth at WR. They currently have Welker, Lloyd and Johnson as locks. They have Edelman and Slater as STs. That really only leaves ONE WR position available for Branch, Stallworth, Gonzalez, Underwood and Davis to fight for. Now you want to add a ROOKIE WR to that mix?

That all being said, I agree that Wilson probably would have been around later in the draft. Personally, I would have rather had Johnson because of his height, but there are clearly issues that BB and Co felt that Johnson had that Wilson doesn't.

If he definitely would have been available for rounds and rounds, why wouldn't BB have at least traded the higher pick to get more?

I don't know, but I'm guessing someone does and he doesn't write for a magazine.

Is it so wrong to suggest that chances of finding one at 61 who MIGHT make the roster are greater than two likely lesser chances at 90 and 163? My point is that with so few choices in this draft, they might as well have used both seconds and then focused on UDFAs to round things out. But don't mind me, I'm just an ignorant fan.

Pats got hosed on that one. May as well of traded that last pick into next year. What's the deal with Wilson is he a cb or safety?

I was pointing out the value there was at that point in the 2nd, and that we probably could have had Wilson at a later point.

I do keep up with the Pats WR depth, and you actually think Chad Johnson is a lock? We brought in guys like Stallworth and Gonzalez but they may not make it past training camp. I'd rather have drafted Randle or Sanu and let them have Chad's spot on the roster.

Sure its an unfamiliar player but its annoying when we act like its a bad pick when the reality is we don't know a damn. Unless you are watching scouting tape, and no that doesn't mean you watch college games, then frankly you are in no position to pass judgement on any pick.

You're hilarious.

Anybody who's existed in the real Universe knows that well-informed people in positions to make decisions constantly make stupid decisions ~ even brilliant men like Coach Bill Belichick, who is the best in ALL the Land, but who has made a LEGION of stupid moves, Tavon Wilson in the 2nd being only his latest.

The notion that BILL DOESN'T MAKE MISTAKES is pure, unprocessed SEWAGE.

He's the BEST.

But he's HUMAN.

LIVE with it.

And stop lecturing the rest of us, if you please.

We DO study this, and we ARE entitled to our opinions, thank you VERY much.

You need to have a willing 2nd team to trade back.

There is no telling where NFL circles had this guy rated.

Even if we traded #48 back for a 6th Rounder and a bucket of warm spit, we STILL would've been able to pick up Wilson in the 6th...and been UP one bucket of warm spit. :D

Id be able to buy that if they had gotten a 2nd next year or something but a 3rd and a 4th(or 5th?) for a late 2nd? Aweful that sounds like something belichick woulda done to Oakland lol. Oh well loved what they did in the 1st this trade is a bit of a head scratcher though. Hopefully both become pro bowlers and I look like and idiot makin this post.

Saying Johnson is a lock and branch is competing for the last spot is a ****** joke. I love ocho but he did nothin last year to suggest he ll be on the team. Him redoin his contract means nothin

And he is 6' 205, at least on three sites I saw.

He's 5'11 and 3/4 by the Pro Day Measurments. Most sites just round up..

OTG, you know I got nothin but love brother, but just because people make mistakes doesn't mean this was a mistake. Plenty of people study the draft but they don't have skin in the game.

Wilson could very well suck but there are guys who fall under the radar all the time. And for the we could have traded back and still gotten him crowd... How do you know?

Mankins was a reach until we heard SF was taking him with the next pick. Vollmer was a reach but the Raiders wanted him in the 2nd as well (if I remember correctly). If it was up to mockers we wouldn't have either of those guys because somebody else 'reached' for them.

Take Dye who you love. If he had been the pick here would you be yelling reach or steal? It's quite possible BB thought Wilson was under-valued just as you think Dye is.

Just saying, somebody hasn't made a mistake until it's a mistake not because anybody here thinks it's a mistake.

And that's just a philosophical argument because I know **** all about Tayvon Wilson.

My only guess is that Wilson was the last guy on their shopping list. Much like Ridley last year. Now they are just looking for super-sliders (Mallett/Cannon), ST aces (Mal Williams) or PS developmental types (Markell Carter).

No super-sliders at this point that I can see (Dennard or Brandon Thompson might be one when they pick next). Too early to take ST/PS guys. Not saying I agree with the approach. Goes to the philosophy behind Belichick's team building. I don't believe he brings in rookies without a plan to develop them in the context of the guys already on the roster. Far cry from a "Hunger Games" approach of getting as many "ranked" guys as possible, giving them helmets and see who emerges out the other end.

My current problem is that I don't know Wilson from a hole in the wall. Could be Ed Reed. Could be Donna Reed. My hope is that past DB misfires have given Belichick some insight into the particular configuration of brain cells that can succeed in his defense. More than his physical makeup, I'm interested in learning about what Wilson has between his ears.

The value of that trade don't make sense when you look at others

Surely they got the Eagles picks wrong way round.

Packers receive:
• Second-round pick (No. 62):
Casey Hayward

Patriots receive:
• Third-round pick (No. 90)
• Fifth-round pick (No. 163)

Packers receive:
• Second-round pick (No. 51)
Jerel Worthy

Eagles receive:
• Second-round pick (No. 59):
Vinny Curry
• Fourth-round pick (No. 123)

My first inclination is not to like the pick, but I have enough faith in Belichick that I'm willing to sit back and see where this goes. I would have at least preferred to see the pick traded back, if the Pats were really in love with this guy, but oh well.

Broncos receive:
• Third-round pick (No. 67):
Ronnie Hillman

Browns receive:
• Third-round pick (No. 87)
• Fourth-round pick (No. 120)
