Jabar Gaffney on the trade block?

Welker, Lloyd, Gaffney, Branch, Oocho/Stall/Gonzalez

Gronk, AH, and the guy from Denver at TE.

That corps would be better than 2007 IMO

That would be sick! It's almost a shame that Brady would only be allowed to through one ball per down, because the Pats should have at least 2-3 guys open nearly every play.

It's pick your poison, and pick a back up poison while you're at!

The current lineup is already pretty sick though.

I would like this move...i always liked Gaffney and on other teams he has been producing very well with pretty mediocre QBs.

Unless there's a cap crunch nobody knows about, it makes no sense to cut Johnson right now.

Exactly.

No offense meant to anyone specific, but I find it strange that we go over this same point on almost an everyday basis.

In my opinion, we may as well allow him a shot in TC, despite any of our personal opinions about his bad play last year. Apparently he took a flat our pay cut, not a re-structure, to try and prove himself.

I'm not a huge fan myself, but in a worst case scenario it makes for better competition for the WR core.

That all said, I'm still very interested in continuing to improve that group of players, whether that be a rookie draft pick, Jabar Gaffney--or both.

I would love to sign Jabar Gaffney, and made it well known when WAS went out and signed Josh Wilson etc in free agency that it would likely be pretty easy if Bill wanted him here.

I am not sure that I would agree 100% with your statement that the WR core is 'pretty sick' at the moment, although it is certainly improved from last yr. I just think there are a lot of unknows at the moment with several players.

I would like to continue to add competition to the WR position. The depth needs to get better in my opinion, otherwise we're right back to square one if Lloyd gets hurt.

We still don't really know what Gonzelez can bring, if anything--and we don't have any idea if he'd even get any looks with his skillset being quite similar to Welker and even Edelman.

Ochocinco is still a huge unknown, but deserves a chance. Branch is still an asset, but I don't want to see him having to start on the outside in a game that matters like last year.

Stallworth can be a decent acquisition at times (possibly), although I don't think he'll get too many looks.

I still think there's room for a rookie draft pick, and I'd love to bring in Gaffney, if Belichick sees fit. That would create even more of a logjam, but it would also allow the cream to rise to the top even more.

This was definitely a "see what sticks" contract: if they decide to cut him, he'll only cost $15K against the salary cap.

Definitely a good signing, I love the tactness and skillfullness of the front office with moves like these.

I don't know that I am thinking that he's going to contribute much though. Like you said, if he does--great, if he doesn't--that's fine too.

I have seen some talk about him like he's going to be a factor this yr though, and personally I'd be surprised (and possibly angry, since that'd likely mean that someone much better was injured) if he did much, or even made the team.

Again though, I think it was a smart move in the big picture, and I think the depth has gotten better in some key areas, which is always a good thing.

Well..as of right now on paper this receiving core along with the TE's should be extremely tough to match up against if Lloyd performs like he has with McDaniels. Then you have guys like Ocho(who i think will improve alot),Stallworth who sould be able to stretch the field. We have definately improved.

I'm probably more worried about the RBs and OL as of right now. There are alot more unknowns in those positions.

I definitely agree that we should be in much better shape than last yr, your point is golden in that regard. I still wouldn't mind having one more viable option to cause a bit of improvement at the position, but that may just be wishful thinking. My prediction is that at least one more WR is signed, whether that's either a high round pick (1-3), or a guy like Gaffney (just for example).

I also think that Ocho should be improved enough to be able to contribute with about 30 catches and a couple/few TD's.

I think OL and RB should be just fine to be honest. I am very hopeful that we're about a player or two (maybe one via draft + one via free agency/team cut) of wrapping the whole thing up on offense with vast improvement or at least status quo in all of the areas. You may be surprised at RB, we may even improve there. TE is already an improvement in my opinion. QB is the same, maybe even better with another yr of experience behind the 2 backups.

I wouldn't be too worried about RB. I think Vereen and Ridley will be just as capable as BJGE was last yr, and hopefully more. There may be another couple of fumbles that go along with that, but we should be able to use the guys that we have here and do as well as we need--around 4 ypc/hopefully a bit higher. I wouldn't mind another vet signed, and I would assume that may be the case.

I know there are many who assume that Koppen may not see the field too much, but if Mankins starts the yr on PUP (as I will assume for argument's sake), we'd still have Solder, Connelly, Koppen, Waters, and Vollmer as the starting 5---with Gallery, Cannon, Wendall, and likely McDonald as the other 4 who will offer a great push of depth and competition. There are 2 backup tackles and 2 backup interior lineman right there who are all quite capable of starting at any given time. There's always the thought that they may keep 10, and/or choose a draft pick next weekend too. I think the competition is going to be great on the offensive line, and if there should be a problem someone else is more than capable of stepping up. I think there are many teams who would love to be in our situation.

We might sign him if he gets cut, but no way in hell they trade a pick for him. Also, they don't have any late round picks to trade.

Maybe we could trade the equivalent of a 5th and 6th for him.

I have to admit, I'm not necessarily being rational, but I want this guy.

That catch in the end-zone in the miracle 2007 comeback in Baltimore? Amazing. One of my favorite Patriots games of all time.

If the price is low enough, SIGN THE BEAST.
