BB is maneuvering like a man who's not going to worry about trading down for camp bodies in this draft.

That is a very astute observation. Either that or a person who will be trading picks into next year.

the dirty deed is done.

welcome, spencer larsen!!!!!!!!!

We got one of our draft binkies all but late.
Now we just need to swing a trade for Connor Barwin.

Who are the other Broncos or Broncos affiliates available that the Patriots can acquire?

Just cannot imagine Bill will watch 3 rounds go by without a pick.

I think this is the move that puts the Patriots over the top! They have to be the favorites to win it all now.

Gonzales + Stallworth + Spencer + Gregory = Championship:rocker:

OK, I like STer's and utility players. And yes, I like having a fullback on the team.

It's actually not that odd of a Combo since Lousaka Polite was a LB coming out of college as well.

Larsen was a LB from Arizona when he came out in 2008.

The transition from LB to FB in the NFL is fairly common. Think about it, linebackers and fullbacks basically do the same thing on a running play, now you just flip the responsibility.

A quick google search of "linebacker turned fullback" plus a couple of random memories yielded me this incomplete list

*Robert Thomas of the Cowboys was a LB turned FB who replaced Moose Johnston
*the Cowboys currently have Isaiah Greenhouse
*LB/FB Darrell Young, the current Redskins fullback, is a converted linebacker.
*Current Vikings FB Ryan D'Imperio
*49ers fullback Bruce Miller (once touted as a passrush prospect)
*Brit Miller--current Ram, former Panther
*Spencer Havner of the Packers has been used in this role. Maybe it's a Spencer thing.
*Aforementioned Polite

There are lots of linebackers turned fullbacks throughout the NFL and college. This is a very common transition.

I think the UDFA signings would do that.

I'd hope BB trades out into next year on a pick or two and grabs the guys in the first 3 rounds who he thinks can help shortly on defense.

Or all of these signings on offense could be about bringing in the players that McDaniels needs to run his offense.

Gathering folks who Josh can teach easily is a major plus. How many have failed because they take so long to learn our system?

From what's been written/reported, he wanted to do sort of like that in 2007.

My preference has been for the first two rounds to go like this

DL/OLB/WR
DL/OLB/WR
DL/OLB/WR
DL/OLB/WR
(total of 3 defensive players and one WR)
Trade the 3rd rounder into 2013
Use 4th rounder to trade down and accumulate picks

I'd be fine if he traded that 4th round pick into 2013 as well, though.*

*Note: I've gone back and forth on whether I'd want to see in interior OL drafted high as well. In my mind, that depends on what else they do at center, and whether or not Cannon gets time as a guard despite what was reported to us earlier.

Speaking of OLB, what are we to make of Jermaine Cunningham? I know he was hampered by injuries last year, but he hasn't exactly shined when he has played.

the problem is that Josh is a horrible judge of talent (see Maroney/Jackson). Daboll was the smart one when it came to judging offensive talent at WR.

Stand and deliver Jermaine. Nobody gives you nothing in this league.

I wouldn't make that assumption if I were you. With Polite and Larsen, the Pats now have 3RBs and 2 FBs and 3TEs. That gives them a lot of flexibility in the event of injuries. And it's clear that Hernandez will be seeing a lot more time split wide and in the backfield as the H-back than he will in the traditional TE position.

They resigned Ketanni from Navy. Isn't he a FB too?
