* Ye Official 2012 Mock Draft Thread!! *

(A) Do you really think the Pats would cut Meriweather if they had a trade offer on the table?

(B) The Pats do have at least one useful asset (namely, Hoyer).

Wow not even a 6th or 7th rounder. Jeez! As to Hoyer I don't think any team is going to be like the Cardinals in pursuing him. I'd hope someone would offer a mid to late round pick for him.

1A. TE Dwayne Allen, or TE Tyler Eifert (Underclassmen)
1B. DE Jared Crick

2A. WR Nick Toon
2B. OLB Lavonte David.

Any thoughts on Brandon Jenkins from FSU?He is playing in a bowl game now.He is listed at 6'3 but i dont know his accurate height. He could be a 3.4 type of LB at the next level.

He is a 34OLB in the next level and I believe he is coming back to school.

Can anyone see BB trading up to get a player? It would be nice to finally have a young pass rusher.

Not sure there's a sure fire pass rusher in this draft. Courtney Upshaw from Alabama is a 3-4 olb. He's probably the best. But, there are 5-6 similiar prospects; Perry, Curry, Branch, Jenkins, Cam Johnson. Not sure it's worth moving up this year.

Well there is Coples, but he'll probably go to soon to realistically trade up for. At 6'6" 272, I'd love to see him at OLB, or DE if we stick with the 43 base.

He's listed at 285 everywhere now. That's about as "tweener" as it gets, about 15 pounds too heavy for OLB and 15 too light for DE. With that frame, I think he'd be better off adding the extra 15 or so to get to DE size. Most likely though, he'll end up on a 4-3 team or more aggressive 3-4 team.

Interesting. I stopped checking in on him so I wouldn't get my hopes up. I agree with the second part.

You never know; after all, look what SD got for Charlie Whitehurst, who didn't throw a single regular-season pass in four years.

GBN has a new mock out today. Very realistic trade at the top. Luck to Indy. Then, Washington trading up to get RG3 with St. Louis. I think the best way to us improving the pass is stick with the 4-3 and get a good rotation of def. linemen. They have us going dt and de in the 1st. Melvin Ingram and Fletcher Cox. Has my stamp of approval. Can get a safety and wr in the 2nd. I go cb and olb in the 3rd and 4th.

Great Blue North Draft Report

To try something a little different, rather than assigning names to a specific pick, I thought I'd take a look at different prospects and their values within specific ranges within the first two rounds. So...

Players in the first round I'd trade up for:

The highest pick I'd be prepared to use in a trade to trade up in the first is our 2B pick (No63 atm). That gets us up to around pick No18 in the first. These are the players I think have sufficient value to warrant a trade up:

Dre Kirkpatrick (obviously only if he slips within range)
David DeCastro
Mark Barron

Note that I don't think the likes of Blackmon, Claiborne or Richardson have any chance of slipping so I haven't included them.

Players I'd select at 1A and 1B

The aforementioned plus

Courtney Upshaw
Dont'a Hightower
Quinton Coples
Zach Brown
Michael Floyd
Devon Still

For now, if none of these were available I'd be looking to trade out of our 1A and 1B picks

[Players I'd select at 2A/B]

The aforementioned plus
Kendall Wright
Fletcher Cox
Janoris Jenkins
Alfonzo dennard
Stephon Gilmore
Andre Branch
Melvin Ingram
Brandon Thompson
Peter Konz

Players I'd select at 2B

Jared Crick
Nick Perry
Chase Minnifield
Brandon Jenkins
Ronnell Lewis
Alameda Ta'Amu
Dontari Poe

There are some names missing here (Mercilus, Worthy) and that's because I haven't fully decided on where to place them yet.

Anyone else want to share their value ranges?

Very busy!! I hope all the fine folks here had a Merry Christmas!!

There is a very good summary of the Pat's needs for 2012 available on NEP Draft. See link below (which i can now post!!)

End of Year Inventory: Patriots Draft Needs | NEPatriotsDraft.com - 2012 NFL Draft

I am going to have another go at a mock - based on the above and the NEP Draft top 100 Prospects as of now. Will allow a small amount of leeway on the positional rankings but no more than 3-4 in round 1, 5-6 in round 2 and 8-9 in round 3 to allow for risers/fallers.

I am working on the assumption that we have re-signed our key FA's (Welker, Carter, Anderson) and added a veteran DB.

Here are our Picks.

1st Rounders

2nd Rounders

3rd Rounder

Round 1 - 29 OVR
The New England Patriots select Devon Still, DL, Penn State. The Pats give Vince some help on the DLine and indicates a shift back to the 3-4. However, Still is scheme versitile and can line up at DT in a 4 man front. A Team Captain, he has the flexibility and intangibles that BB loves.

Round 1 - 31 OVR
The Pats trade back to the top of the second round, picking up a potential high 2nd in the 2013 draft.

Round 2 - 40 OVR (approx)
The Pats select Melvin Ingram, DE/OLB, North Carolina State. Enters the rotation as a 3-4 OLB.

Round 2 - 49 OVR
The Pats Select, Nick Perry, DE/OLB, USC. The Pats double dip in the pass rush, in the hope that Carter and Anderson can groom Ingram, Perry and Cunningham as the long-term solution off the edge.

Round 2 - 63 OVR
The Pats Select Robert Lester, S, Alabama. The Pats play at S this year has been poor at best. Only Chung is a viable long term starter. In this scenario, the Pats have picked up a Vet. DB and Lester will join the rotation.

Round 3 - 94 OVR
The Pats Select David Molk, OC, Michigan. The Pats have coped well without Koppen, and may not wish to up him too much. If he does not take a home town payout, the Pats may wish to draft a replacement.

CBSSports has new rankings as of 28/12 (or 12/28 for you foreigners mangling the English language ) which sees some interesting and significant changes. For example:

Fletcher Cox, Melvin Ingram, Kendall Wright and Nick Perry are all mid first rounders now.

Brandon Thompson @47

Robert Lester is now a mid third rounder

Dwight Jones a late third rounder whilst Marvin McNutt is a late fourth rounder

Jamell Fleming can be had late fifth round, Shea Mclellin early sixth

Derek Wolfe barely hangs on, now a seventh rounder whilst Greg Childs, Juron Criner and Frank Alexander are UDFA's. Tony Jerod-Eddie who I quite like as a 5-tech is ranked @428.

Here's to the Chargers for taking out the Raiders!! :rocker:

Posted this in another thread but thought it was apt for this one too as it is a collection of all our Mocks:

Ok so have adjusted the Mock so far in light of some bowl games and some injuries may leave some others in poaching distance.

I will say that i think with a full pre season we go back to the 3-4. So my draft is predicated on this.

1A.) Whitney Mercilus DE/OLB - There ever lasting hope for a 3-4 edge rusher i like the look of mercilus.

1B.) Trade out/down/into next year for arguments sake same deal as last year (1st in 2013 2nd in 2012)

2A.) Mark Barron Saftey (Maneuver our way to top of the 2nd to get Barron to pair with Chung)

2B.) Dwight Jones WR - Do we dare take another NC wide receiver? I have thought about it and usually i would be against another WR but this is a pick for the future as the reality is branch will be gone sooner than later and it would be nice for a young reciever to emerge (at a possition other than slot CB)

2C.) Vinny Curry/ Donte Page-Moss DE/OLB - like in other years we double dip at Rusher and doing a Tate/Gronk/Ras-I where we gamble on an injured talent hoping they come good and become a steal.

3A.) Trade for 2013 2nd rounder

3B.) Michael Egnew TE or LaMicheal James RB - this scenario is predicated on whether we keep BJGE around or not. If not i see the carries shared among our existing RB's but i must admit i am excited by the talent and drive of someone like James who has been told his entire life he's too small. If BJGE stays i like the look of Engrew (cn we have too many TE's? i think not)

first timer here. lots of intresting thoughts. Like manxman 2601's thinking though I'm not convinced anyone worth cost of a trade up in the first. Otherwise I like his prospect lists.

Open Question: Derek Wolfe of Cinn. is well thought of by some pundents but not others. Thoughts anyone?

Another thought: I was high on Doren ****erson in 2010 draft & Bill picked him up (fa) three weeks ago for pratice squad. Question, does he have a future with Pats?

Time to play Catch Up...

Patriots Picks

1A- Dont'a Hightower, LB:

I think somehow the Patriots trade up for this guy can play every linebacker spot in a 4-3 and 3-4, whether it be inside or outside and has experience in a defensive scheme similar to the Patriots at Alabama.

1B- Chase Minnifield, CB:

Yes another corner but a great one. Minnifield is an underated corner from Virginia that fits th Patriots scheme and would be a great fit at the end of the first where the Patriots pick.

2A- Vinny Curry, DE:

Insane pass rusher who Would be a great fit as a 4-3 end and could line up at linebacker in a 3-4 plus he was a team captain at Marshall and the Patriots like to pick team captains.

2B- Michael Brewster, C/ Joe Adams, WR:

I honestly do not know where they will go here. They could trade this pick. Brewster seems like the liklier pick because the Patriots don't draft receivers in the 2nd and it may be a little high for Joe Adams.

3- AJ Jenkins, WR:

This is the receiver the Patriots should grab, he's severely underrated and is one of the better receivers in this class. Whether it's Jenkins or someone else, I see the Patriots going receiver in the 3rd with Jenkins being the best fit.

4- Ryan Broyles, WR:

The Patriots like doubling up on skill players in the draft. In the past couple of years they have taken Gronkowski and Hernandez in the same draft and have taken Vereen and Ridley in the Same draft. Ryan Broyles is a player who has Patriots written all over him. He was a dominant receiver in college but his stock will fall because of the injury and the Patriots love value picks, they love picking players who fall later in the draft ala Tate and Hernandez.

Excellent presentation.

1a. Dont'a Hightower - ILB/OLB - Alabama -

not hard to figure this out. Very physical and smart football. The Pats need an enforcer playing ILB which is what Spikes was supposed to be. If Spikes plays like he should, Hightower could play multiple LB positions and the Pats LB's would be a force.

1b. Fletcher Cox - DE/DT - Miss st -

Two gap end playing great football in the SEC and has proven he is a player with strength and agility.

2a Mark Barron - S - Alabama -

He may be available. Seen him listed as high as 18 and as low as 55. The hardest hitting and most physical safety in the draft. The Pats could get another possible safety later in the 4th - 6th rounds. Avoid a CB unless Dowling's injury is worse than it has been listed. The PATS need to rebuild the safety positions and Chung's durability is questionable.

2b. Andre Branch - DE - Clemson -

Solid player and coachable

3. Michael Brewster - C - Ohio State -

The Patriots need a new center to stabilize that OL.

4 Parts Defense + 1 Part Grizzly!! LOVE it!! :rocker:
