Seriously. How many times did Anderson knife in there? He looked fantastic, and so many times he got the initial pressure on Sanchez, and Carter cleaned up.

Say what you want about the Jets O -- but they do have a great offensive line. After ditching Haynesworth and making Shaun Ellis a rotational guy, Mark Anderson got his first start where he saw the majority of the snaps at LDE. He had 4.5 sacks as just a situational guy playing very, very sparingly. Clearly, more reps helped him out. He was so good tonight at pressuring Sanchez that -- as Collinsworth pointed out -- the Jets kept a TE to that side and kept Tomlinson in to pass block on that side too. The result? He got pressure and freed up Andre Carter - who lined up against D'Brick, with no help - and those two were able to generate more pressure tonight than all season long; when Carter was really the only constant pass rush threat. 4.5 sacks for him. 0.5 for Anderson, with many pressures. Best pass rush NE has shown in a long time.

But we need to credit Mark Anderson just as much as anyone. I think he is legit. With an actual pass rush tandem; this team could be so much better, especially with the injured players coming back.

well said! I think belichick looks like a genius for cutting haynesworth!

Im confused. One group was saying Carters play was going to go down because of Fat Alberts release, now we are going to say that Anderson is opening it up for him? When are we going to just start giving Carter the credit he deserves. The guy plays hard on every play. Non-stop hustle. HE made those plays today, and most of them were single handedly.

The play of both ends was very good, and it was nice to see #93 rushing the RDE side again

I agree that M.Anderson also looked good at pass rushing too, no doubt.

I am somewhat concerned with their tendency to give up rushing yrds, but hopefully that will improve as some of our injured guys come back.

...Say what you want about the Jets O -- but they do have a great offensive line....

No.

I've got no beef with the rest of your post, but as for this....

No. Just, no.

now wait a minute...I read on this very board, from a host of expert Green Beans sophisticates, that the Return Of The Golden Child(Mangold) was the KEY to the new, and improved top five offense..and that the sky is the limit now...

you mean they were all wrong???

I mean, if you can't believe a Jet fan these days...who CAN you believe????

maybe THIS guy...

if they can bring this pass rush with them in the playoffs they will be unstopable

Let's not go that far just yet. It was the best defensive performance of the year and we should be wise to have greater exposure to the D than re-proclaiming the Patriots as a juggernaut.

What I will say is this defensive performance looks to have rejuvenated belief in the Patsfans.com fan base, which was much needed after the last 2 weeks.

Mulligan had as much to do with helping Carter getting his 4.5 sacks as Anderson did.

If you listen to 3 hours of brainwashing jibber jabber by Collingsworth/Michaeals this may be true, but after closer review of the ballwashing about how great the Jets are.. it simply is not true.

They have 2 really good offensive lineman, the rest of them not as much so.

man, that was embarrassing ! it doesn't even take closer review. just watch the jest oline on the old boob tube. hopefully the negative nellies go back to the jest board.

What a brilliant DE combo.

Anderson is still too thin to play in non-obvious passing downs, but he should absolutely be the other DE after Carter in passing situations.

It's been bugging me all year that the Patriots have rarely played the two of them together. This game showed the importance of having them on the field at the same time, even if it's just on third and long.

Also, remember that the Pats had 2 sacks nullified. One because Sanchez got penalized for intentional grounding and the other because Sanchez was supposedly outside the pocket..

while it still remains to be seen if they can consistently apply pressure like they did last night, hats off to the BB and the rest of the coaching staff for coming up with that scheme/paring. That was what this D needed, it truely is amazing how a good pass rush makes a secondary better. A secondary of no-names was able to cover their respective receivers because the DL and the LB were getting to the QB consistently.

Now to consistently do that week-in and week-out.

Most of the rushing yards the Pats gave up were runs up the middle where the Jets doubled up Wilfork and Love.

WHAt A GREAT PASS RUSH LAST NIGHT!!!!! FINALLY .....KEEP IT UP BOYS

Mulligan was only lined up against Carter Once.. And Carter beat him.. The rest of the time Mulligan was helping Hunter with Anderson..

Stop trying to read between the lines. No one is saying Carter is a fraud or anything. Just that he - or any DE - will be more effective when he has another edge rusher to preoccupy the opposing offense. That's all. I could say the same for Mathis when Freeny has been out.

Also - not taking away from his previous effort - but that was far and away Carter's best game. I don't think it's a coincidence that it came when Anderson was made a starter; and his play forced the Jets into moving the TE or the HB to pass block on that side. Even Collinsworth pointed it out....

Pass rush certainly seemed to be there last night.

I imagine the secondary helped quite a bit (and maybe Sanchez deserves a little credit too :singing: ).
