Announced Patriots cuts: countdown to 53

I know that Edelman has taken some kicks. Price has gotten better, but his hands on kicks have been somewhat of an issue.

Price's problems were only on punt returns. Don't think he bobbled or dropped any kicks.

I think it is going to end up being one of the RBs.
Slater will be back there, but as the blocker.

Besides his obvious special teams contributions, Slater IMO will also add value as a deep threat at WR. Far beyond what Tate offered as he can actually make plays in the air.

I did see Vareen back there for the last game. As someone who was cheering for Tate, he didn't seem to have the same speed he had before.

Re: Yeatman cut

Yeatman and Smith did not impress me... I admit that I want Crumpler back even though I dissed him (mostly age and contract) The 2 rookies underperformed in my book and I would welcom Crumpler back ASAP say week 2.

I also once said the drop off from Smith to Yeatman was not much... lets bring back the old fella w/ experience a guy that had a gr8 yr last yr. I do wonder if BB had this all planned out and figured if the 2 were unimpressive they would be waived b/c the demand is really not much. Maybe some TE needy team will snatch 1.. I unfortunately suspect that to occur

It's funny that the same arguments aren't made about Arrington. When he gives up plays, you don't say a thing, and when the QB throws bad passes his way or the WR drops them, nothing.

Arrington gets his fair share of criticism too. I know I've criticized him. Hell, if someone's playing bad, I'm not afraid to say so. Arrington has a lot of shortcomings physically (not the quickest, not the fastest, and certainly not the tallest) but he still outplays Butler. And I've said often before that I'm a big Butler fan. I really do want him to do well and live up to his physical potential. He could be very good because physically he's got the tools. But he just doesn't perform well enough to be defended the way you guys defend him. That's the honest truth.

Well lets not get carried away. We saw him catch 1 long ball.
Tate caught some last year too.
Don't expect to see Slater playing WR regularly.

I count 15 players who weren't here last year (14 new players and Barrett was on IR) slightly above the annual turnover of 11-13 players IIRC,
6 rookies.

Ladies and Gentlemen, your SB 46 winners?????????????? (Subject to more revision?

I think we need to sign a G and TE, and possibly a S.
I think Tarp, a corner, and a safety are at risk.
Of course moving Ras-I to S and calling Ihedigbo a s/t and cutting a corner to get the G or TE makes the numbers work too.

Richard Paul Ohrnberger? Not on a few lists as making the squad.
I was looking for a player that the Pats would cut to make room for TE -Algie
when he comes back next week

No. I haven't been impressed with Yeatman. Look at him during the Detroit game. He was pushed around as much or more as Ohrnberger was... I didn't think he did a good job blocking in either of the other two games as well. But I have been one of the few doubters of his ability..

I agree with this. Had Crumpler been healthy, I think we would keep him and get rid of Yeatman. We may still get Crump when he gets healthy, who knows.

I disagree. I remember him catching a few from Mallett and Hoyer. He also played as a blocking WR in 1WR sets.

And, not that it matters, but I remember hearing that he was Mallett's go-to guy.

I think he is in line to see an increased offensive role this year. But I could be wrong.

Maybe Crumpler is healthy now, didn't he fail his physical? In any case the Patriots use the third TE too often, they'll sign someone,

So....Old balls wins?

This isn't meant facetiously, but is there a VAST difference between playing FT blocking TE and LT/RT? In other words, could that possibly be a way to get Solder on the field until he's ready to take over at tackle?

Ok I feel embarrassed, can anyone tell me anything about Jeff Tarpinian?

I know he's undrafted, what made him stand out, specials teams?

I don't know all that much about him, but special teams are a big part of it. He was working on both kick cover and return teams before he was hurt.

Apparently he was oft injured during college, and from what I've read, this is why he was not drafted.

I don't think he's a special teams only guy though, he could turn into a decent OLB.

FWIW, I'm thrilled that he made the cut (so far, anyways). About a week or two into training camp, during full team goal line work, he completely blew up Edelman to stop him about 6" out of the endzone. It was so great, I actually jumped up and screamed. Which was kind of funny since apparently I was the only person fired up about.

Good point. I could see that happening especially if they don't see him in the starting lineup anytime soon.

Tarpinian was just about the only "surprise" in either direction I got right, so I'm going to take this moment to feel all smug and smart:

:snob:

OK, back to reality. They cut Smith AND Yeatman? Say that again?
