While your point is very valid, Sanders was more than just an average backup last yr. More importantly, he had plenty of starting and role playing experience, particularly in this system, and as we know QB'ed the secondary assignments. This one puzzles me, especially considering the depth of a ONCE promising/strong position.
Page, Sanders, McGowan...hmm?? Not understanding this thinking here, not that I mean to question a coach with such an incredible amount of football knowledge. Maybe this cut will end up making some sense in the next few days, but for now--I am surprised and puzzled. To me, Sanders seemed to be worth the 2.8 million.
I still, for the life of me, cannot understand the constant ball-washing of Chung. I realize that he has a very high upside, and has made important strides since being drafted, but there are many who make him the 2nd coming of Rodney Harrison. Realizing that he is 'good,' I really don't understand the talent assessment of many here, and feel as though he's a huge liability in coverage. I guess it's his speed and ability to tackle, but in my opinion he's not as great as most make him out to be. That said, I hope he continues to improve, and makes my (minor) questioning of him very wrong.
Regardless, I don't feel 1/2 as confident in the position of safety as I did a month ago, but I'm sure it will be just fine. I don't mean to be so honest/opinionated, or overly negative, I was just very excited about the depth and potential of the safeties a few weeks back. Now if either Meriweather or Chung (who both have some ? marks) should get hurt, the depth is not looking too hot in my opinion. At all.
