CB Jonathan Wilhite among 11 players cut

To Wilhite and Sanders, I say this: Thanks for your years of service to the Patriots. From what I understand, they both practiced hard and did what was asked of them. They may have fallen a little short on the field, but they behaved like true professionals and conducted themselves as true Patriots. I wish them well wherever life may take them.

Ron "The Disgrace" Brace avoided the cut for now by lamming it on the PUP.

The same people who defended Chad Jackson and Maroney will not admit
that Brace is a major bust.

Then again.... some people would not know a bust if it hit them in the eye...

Careful; I called Brace a "Disaster" after his first non-season and all the self-appointed experts and big-ego-footballer called for my head. They even got the weak-willed moderator to jettison some of my threads.

You might like watching the Pats plays the Colts last fall where Sanders WON THE GAME with a pick off Manning driving for a last minute TD,

HELLO!!!

Hello?!? McFly? Hello?!?

I know what he means though...EXCEPT for that play he was JAG.

Oh well.

In BBWT! Hopefully they don't stb like they did last saturday!

Re: wilhite, sanders among cuts

Ahh, the Wheatley, Wilhite duo.
That along with Crable...Some poor picks that year...

-Jamman

we got more players from the undrafted FA pile than from the actual draft picks.

Don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but do we have another long snapper on the roster to replace Katula? Or could Lee Smith do it for us? The versatility could earn him a spot.

We do. We signed some ex Jet/SD LS.

Surprised that we didn't Let Barnes and Williams hang on till the 53-man cut. Neither didn't seem to get much look in the preseason games. Belichick must've seen enough in practice to see they didn't have much future. Barnes had a nice feature this past game so the timing of the cut is what caught my eye. Williams with the DB being our weakest spot I'm a little surprised he didn't get some more playing time. Easily could've cut Carson Butler and Aaron Lavarias in their place neither of them have a shot at making the team.

With these cuts we're at 81. We need to cut 1 more to get to the mandatory 80-man roster. Do we cut Eric Kettani* who was falsely reported today (or maybe prematurely reported?) or is it someone else's time to go??

*Before someone says he was cut. All reports are 11 were cut. Sanders and Wilhite, Barnes, Jenkins, Williams, Wetterer, Mills, Weston, Nurse, Kattula and Koepplin.

Oh alright thanks. I thought Katula was playing steadily except for that first game this preseason. I guess the new guy must be an upgrade then or else the move wouldn't have been made, BB has short tolerance for the snappers.

"new guy" is 35 years old and was out of football last year (IR)

I can't believe Sanders stuck on the roster for as long as he did. Never looked fluid, intimidating or athletically capable enough of making it as an every down player.

I'm struggling to recall a single positive memorable play from his career. I don't mean to sound like I'm kicking him when he down, but I honestly can't.
How about the INT return for a TD in the Steeler game that put the game away last yr when PIT cut it to a 10 pt game? That was a very important game/play considering the fact that they just got their asses handed to them by CLE the week before.

You might like watching the Pats plays the Colts last fall where Sanders WON THE GAME with a pick off Manning driving for a last minute TD,

HELLO!!!

I couldn't imagine how anyone could forget his game saving INT inside the 10 yd line to save YET another Colts comeback.

Re: wilhite, sanders among cuts

I dont think Bodden is safe either.

If Bodden isn't safe we will have taken yet another position of strength and turned it into a huge question mark..

I couldn't imagine ANY reason why Belichick would even consider that, especially when Dowling hasn't done a single thing in camp, Wilhite was just cut, and Butler pretty much sucks.

If Bodden isn't safe, there aren't many who are.

Re: wilhite, sanders among cuts

I agree with that point, but the Pats seldom pay more than what they think a player is worth. I could be wrong and it may be more performance-based, but I have to think they didn't want to pay $2.8 million for a backup.

While your point is very valid, Sanders was more than just an average backup last yr. More importantly, he had plenty of starting and role playing experience, particularly in this system, and as we know QB'ed the secondary assignments. This one puzzles me, especially considering the depth of a ONCE promising/strong position.

Page, Sanders, McGowan...hmm?? Not understanding this thinking here, not that I mean to question a coach with such an incredible amount of football knowledge. Maybe this cut will end up making some sense in the next few days, but for now--I am surprised and puzzled. To me, Sanders seemed to be worth the 2.8 million.

I still, for the life of me, cannot understand the constant ball-washing of Chung. I realize that he has a very high upside, and has made important strides since being drafted, but there are many who make him the 2nd coming of Rodney Harrison. Realizing that he is 'good,' I really don't understand the talent assessment of many here, and feel as though he's a huge liability in coverage. I guess it's his speed and ability to tackle, but in my opinion he's not as great as most make him out to be. That said, I hope he continues to improve, and makes my (minor) questioning of him very wrong.

Regardless, I don't feel 1/2 as confident in the position of safety as I did a month ago, but I'm sure it will be just fine. I don't mean to be so honest/opinionated, or overly negative, I was just very excited about the depth and potential of the safeties a few weeks back. Now if either Meriweather or Chung (who both have some ? marks) should get hurt, the depth is not looking too hot in my opinion. At all.

Re: wilhite, sanders among cuts

He (Butler) sorta helped himself Saturday, he wasn't terrible terrible, matter of fact they were picking on McCourty while Butler was on the field.

That's great news to hear...

I didn't watch the game, but certainly am confused about the negative DMcC talk that I've been hearing.

You said (paraphrasing) "when Darius Butler was still on the field, the Lions decided to instead pick on Devin McCourty...." What do you expect that reaction to be??? Lol.

I think theres more moves to come, teams will be making cuts and they did work out a couple safties last week. BB always says he makes moves based on whats best for the team, we'll see who the final 53 are before making an assessment.

It was really strange, McCourty had an absolutely terrible game. I dunno what happened, but I'm not worried about him. He also made a couple of exceptional plays, too, so hopefully it was just a one-time thing.

As for Wilhite, how long before the Giants sign him?

Absolutely. Great point.

I think I'm just having one of those moments where I rarely question Belichick's moves, but I am kind of annoyed at the safety position to be honest. It seemed to be one (or THE) best position on the team--depth wise. Now, not so much. As much as I agree that there will likely be an additional player added to the safety position, I simply question whether or not he will be able to contribute/know the defense as well as Sanders seemed to.

Then again, that's why he's the coach, and I'm the MMQB

Let me know when you've actually watched the guy play because he was the 3rd best defensive lineman the Pats had last year. Behind Wilfork and G. Warren.

What's a disgrace is people just talking out their ass with nothing to support their claims....

What people fail to mention is that the Pats played a vanilla defense where they rushed 4 and dropped 7 into coverage most of the night and were playing more loose zone than man.

DMac was beat by "PERFECT" throws. Not some limp noodle armed garbage.

That's because, in general, you're a complete moron who doesn't know what he's talking about. You're threads were what was weak. And they were jettisoned to the Practice squad where they belonged because they were garbage to begin with.

Thanks for elaborating on the situation DB. Much appreciated.

I am sure he is just fine, but hearing negativity about his performance was about one of the last things that I expected.
