A Couple Of Rumours For What They're Worth

"3. Heard a crazy rumor, but it came from a source that I trust pretty well: New England moving way up. Julio Jones and Marcel Dareus are the presumed targets. I get the sense from the way he told me that this could very well be Belichick building more value for #17, trying to send the signal that he isn't afraid to use it to move up. I wish I could make more concrete sense of it, but I'm not in The Hoodie's inner circle...which is exactly three people."

Hmm, wonder who Bill and Ernie let in?

Would LOVE either of these players.

Clearly it would be Casserio. I think there was some sarcasm in what was said but I bet Bill, Ernie and Nick are the only three who know the plan 100% going in.

Aldon Smith is being compared to Demarcus Ware, I cant definitely see it. Just by his body type, he has yet to prove he can carry his jock though.

Stil rather early in the process but a couple of names of interest I'm hearing are:

Justin Houston OLB from Georgia Mikel Leshoure RB from Illinois

Not sure where they'd be interested in drafting either guy (I doubt it would be at 17, but 28/33/60 could all be in play).

Take this FWIW, but I figured I'd pass it along.

Houston should be available at #33 now, reports are that both he and Christian Ballard both failed drug tests at the combine (Mary J)

Why would we want guys that failed drug tests with an early pick like 33? They are a suspension waiting to happen. I had Houston rated as a 2nd rounder BEFORE this news. Now he's more like a 3rd-4th rounder.

The guy who predicted Devin McCourty as the Pats main target last season. HE must be the 3rd guy.

More rumours, this time from The Draft Insider:

The topic of the New England Patriots drafting a quarterback of the future has been broached several times and surrounds the visits of several high profile signal callers to their facility recently. We hear the Patriots will draft a signal caller though it will be somewhere between rounds 4-through-7. We’ve been told the team is targeting Mike Coughlin of Boise State, who’s been compared to Matt Cassel as well as Taylor Potts of Texas Tech.

Who???

A regular favourite here:

Greg Romeus is getting healthier by the day and has been given clearance to do a few drills for teams at this point if it is requested. His back has been given full clearance by doctors who are targeting the second week in May to give the senior clearance on his knee. When will Romeus be selected in the draft? We hear as early as the late part of round three. Teams are looking at the talented pass rusher as both a 4-3 defensive end as well as a rush linebacker in a 3-4 alignment. Many feel the former basketball player has the movement skills and hip flexibility to flip his hips then drop in coverage. We’ll have more on the teams interested in Romeus later this week.

Cam Jordan to the Cowboys or Redskins:

Sources have said the defensive lineman they (Dallas Cowboys) are targeting is Cameron Jordan- in our minds the most underrated player in this draft. Ultimately they’d still prefer to trade down, collect some extra picks and then select an offensive tackle later in the first frame. The other team very high on Cameron Jordan at this point are the Washington Redskins.

I for one would be very pleased with a trade up to the 10-12 area to pick Julio Jones.

As of now, we really don't have a #1 receiver on this team. Tate is obviously more of a speedy, Mike Wallace type of guy. As for Price, he seems like a #2 at best. We'll probably let go of Branch after next year, and Welker is a #2/slot guy. We've got a good group of guys on the roster now, but we still need a true #1.

Why this fascination with a "#1" WR. Did people suddenly forget that we won THREE superbowls without a "#1" WR. Just be thankful that we have the ONLY #1 that counts, and that is at QB. After that the true #1 WR is still the guy who is open.

Some people are fascinated by shiny objects.

I would laugh if the Patriots moved up in the draft... and selected a DE. Everyone would groan and say they made a HUGE mistake for passing on Julio Jones or whatever binky LB. Then watch as BB's 'mistake' pick collected multiple pro bowl and all-pro selections over the years. Then suddenly people's tunes change to - I knew he was planning that all the time. He's still a genius!

Don't disagree, although it's not like marijuana is an ultimate red flag for the Pats (see Hernandez, Aaron). It's the stupidity of not going in to the combine clean that I see as a red flag.

The only thing I would say to that is that there is a much bigger drop off from Julio Jones to Baldwin, Torrey Smith etc than there is from Cam Jordan and Watt to Wilkerson and Heyward. One could argue that it would be more stupid to trade up for Jordan or Watt than for Julio Jones.

We led the league in scoring, so offense was most certainly not the problem. I'd be very unhappy if we drafted any offense players with our first few picks.

1. If you're not trying to improve, you're getting worse.
2. The best cure for the defense is to keep them off the field as much as possible.

Dareus perks my interest quite a bit.

Dareus, Peterson, and Miller to me are the three elite players from this draft. If Miller were to fall just a little bit, I could see a power move up the board...especially since it looks like players could be traded now. On an OLB relativity scale, if we give Von Miller a 10, the next best guy comes in at about a 7. We've got a confluence of a senior from a big conference whom has been among the most productive players in football the last two seasons, a high-character player, and the agility numbers of a cornerback at 246 lbs. Would I like him to be 1 inch taller? Sure. Give him longer cleats.

I will add that they want Julio Jones.

So, trade way up for a receiver with a broken foot. Interesting choice.

And take passes from a unanimous MVP with a broken foot. Yep, sounds like a winner to me.

I dont think this draft class is all that good (esp 1st round) and suspect BB doesnt either. The sweet spot is the second round

It's odds on IMHO that unless say Quinn/Bowers etc fall a long way we trade down and out with extra 1st and 2nd round picks in 2012 - where the whole class looks a lot deeper (esp at S and OL which will be needs)

I'm sure that will impact Brady's blinding speed, good comparison.
