A Couple Of Rumours For What They're Worth

I'm sure that will impact Brady's blinding speed, good comparison.

Jones tore up the combine with that broken foot and is exactly the kind of tough, physical receiver this team needs.

I agree the only player worthy of a (reasonable) trade-up is Jones. Other players I'd target (Jordan, Watt, Kerrigan, A. Smith) aren't quite ahead of their peers (Wilkerson, Heyward, Sheard, Bailey) enough to merit it. Jones, on the other had, is light years ahead of the players behind him.

It should also be noted that trades inside the top 12 or so have been eschewing the value chart lately:

-Miami took about 90 points less than the chart says they were entitled to for the 12th pick last year. The deal was the 12th (1200), 110th (74), and 173rd (22.2) for the 28th (660), 40th (500), and 126th (46). That's 1296.2 vs 1206.
-In 2008, Baltimore took a package that was worth 1127 points on the chart for the 8th pick, which is supposedly worth 1400 points. As point of reference, the 17th and 74 picks are worth 1170 points on the chart.
-In 2009, Cleveland took the 17th (950), the 52nd (380), and some scrubs for the 5th overall pick (1700).

With salaries being what they are towards the top of the draft, don't be surprised if we get higher up than you might expect by packaging the 60th or 74th overall pick with the 17th. Dallas might be targeting Pouncey or an OT, and Washington may want a QB. 17th is a far more reasonable spot to draft those positions.

I get your drift but this one was Mangenius giving "payback" to his BFF Tannenbum.

Food for thought:
Trade up into the top 10 for Julio, take Ingram at 28. That gives the Pats a deadly 2TE/2WR/1RB combo, with 4 very good blockers and 5 very good receivers.

I think we'd have to give up 17 & 28 to move up to 10.

Why this fascination with a "#1" WR. Did people suddenly forget that we won THREE superbowls without a "#1" WR. Just be thankful that we have the ONLY #1 that counts, and that is at QB. After that the true #1 WR is still the guy who is open.

I used to agree with you 100%. I was excited by the Randy Moss move in 2007, but confused -- why do we need a big play receiver? We won 3 Super Bowls with scrubs and Antowain Smith, and a smashmouth defense.

Here's the thing -- that was then. I think the league is a bit different now, moving towards a more pass-focused game. I also think relying on our old system is a bad move -- clearly, over the years, teams figured out the Patriots dink-and-dunk offense.

If you want to stay on top, in anything, you need to keep adapting and evolving. Getting a true #1 receiver would continue that evolution from where Randy Moss left off (actually, it'd be way better than what Moss had to offer us, because Jones is more of a physical threat, and not as much of a head case).

The NFL and the dynamic of this team hasn't changed at all since our last superbowl victory

If it is the Titans, the name other then Locker that has come up a lot is Kaepernick.

Colin Kaepernik turned in a 40 on his Wonderlic, to go with his 6'5" 4.5 40 time and rocket arm. He is the only QB to rush for 1000 yards and throw for 2000 yards in a season. And he has done it a couple of times. But as a spread QB he will need two or three years to be ready for the NFL. I like him as a Pat's developmental QB. Kevin O'Connell but much smarter, more POISEd, and more talented.

A big key to helping your defense is keeping them off the field!

A big play reciever opens up all aspects of the offense. BUT we also would need a more steady viable clock consuming RB as well.

I dont want to waste a 2nd round pick on a guy thats going to do nothing for 4 years.

If you insist on a "big play WR" then simply sign the veteran future HOFer, Randy Moss. He is the very definition of a big play WR. He dying to come back and you'd get him inexpensively for a year or two, while the youngsters develop. Most rookie WRs do NOT play much, or well.

Does he still have the screw in his foot, or do they take that out?

I'm not insisting on a "big play WR" as much as I am insisting on a #1 WR, do-it-all receiver.

Julio Jones makes big plays, and does a hell of a lot more. I'm not saying he's a guaranteed HOFer like Randy, but Randy is old, obviously has caused some sort of stir in the locker room here, and really is only good for the long ball at this point. Jones is good for the long ball, screen plays, catches over the middle, he blocks, he shuts up and does his job, and so on.

And waiting for the youngsters to develop? Edelman is a slot guy at best, Tate is a deep threat at best but is definitely not a do-it-all receiver. The words still out on Price, but I just don't see him filling the role that Jones could fill for us in the long term. Branch is almost done, and Welker is a free agent next year.

We need more than a project WR in the next year or two, and its rare that top dogs at that position come with a Patriot-type mentality.

And take passes from a unanimous MVP with a broken foot. Yep, sounds like a winner to me.

The comparison wasnt really Brady's foot to Jones'. It was your pretty nonsensical statement to mine.

Anyone else hate how the surprise of who will be taken is gone? Last draft the insiders leaked who would be picked before the selection. I hate that.

I'm thinking that 3 or 4 more smokescreen rumors up in here and the EPA is going to feel compelled to get involved.

I loved it. Its not a surprise anymore. The Patriots make it known when they give the pick to the "runner"

Once the runner knows its public knowledge they just make it official with a walk out to the podium.

Same thing before twitter when players were crying in the green room they were already picked.

The Fire Marshall is already here now.

Receivers don't depend on the health of their feet? What nonsensical statements did I make.

Brady is a proven quarterback who relies very little on his foot speed and cutting.

Jones is one of a pool of players who have yet to prove anything in the NFL and he had to have a screw implanted in his foot.

Adrian Peterson two mega knee injuries while in college. Twice as serious as any foot injuries.

Peterson is outstanding

Cmon, now. QBs dont use their feet? That was kind of my point. With all due respect. It was just sort of silly.

Look, we drafted a TE last year with similar injury "concerns", whose back was so munked up he couldnt do a thing at the combine...missed the entire 2009 football season. And TEs use their backs, last I checked. He was also completely unproven at the next level. Today, he's arguably the 3rd best pick from the 2010 draft. You honestly think after what Jones has shown during his career and at the combine, on that broken foot, he wouldnt be a sound investment if he fell to a spot in the draft that made sense? Because I for one saw that kid play one game as a freshman at Alabama, and knew he was gonna be an elite NFL receiver.
