Brandon Tate -Thoughts?

There's "proven talent", and there's "potential".

Tate is potential.

We need proven talent to give Brady the added weapon of a speedy deep threat WR

Maybe Tate ultimately pulls a BJGE but we'll still have to bring in some proven talent.

Proven talent isn't readily available and as a result costs a lot more. Maybe Kraft will fill in the cap space with some 'proven talent' at WR, but I think it would be silly considering the potential we have at the position and the lack of potential and talent we have at other positions.

Cut him. He had his chance. We've been through enough dud-WR crap with Bethel Johnson and Chad Jackson and Galloway, etc.

Coach up Price, acquire a CJ or 85.

You'll see them make an effort to bring in some outside help as a deep threat WR

I have absolutely no doubt.

Again, a reminder (which most people seem to ignore):

This is Tate's first year back from ACL surgery on top of which this is his first year in the NFL. Players coming back from ACL surgery are very rarely 100% their first year back (not even Welker is except to this rule as he's had more dropped pass than usual).

Let's see what he does this fall before we pass judgement on him.

Ahhh the voice of reason.

There's no place here for that kind of stuff.

I understand one thing. At UNC, Tate was more highly regarded for his KR skills. His WR skills were mediocre. Draft Scout said his upside is that he is a better receiver than Bethel Johnson. There are High School kids better then Bethel Johnson. They say he was Drafted in essence for his special teams worth and that he could play DB upon occasion (I did not know that). No where does it say he was Drafted for his superb WR talents.

When you are open and TB does not look at you, I would conclude you are not a starting WR in this offense.....trust? Nyet!

He is another smurf. We have him at 6'1" and 195. The Draft had him at 5'11" and 183. He must have grown 2" in the last three years. Maybe the herbius-weedius he was toking the week before he went to the combine was stunting his growth.

I am not buying Bethel Tate.

Tate does have a lot of work to do and could very well be the next Bethel Johnson. I won't deny it. I agree, it's clear he doesn't have Brady's trust yet. Of course that doesn't mean he won't ever get it though.

But neither of us can know for sure one way or another after his first full season. As the 4th or 5th best option in the passing game, he was decent. Definitely needs to work on his routes and timing with Brady, as well as consistency.

I don't get the height deal either since you were asking for Ochocinco or Steve Smith in another thread, and he falls in between the two by 2" one way or another. Not saying he's anywhere near either of those guys, just that the height thing is a bit weird to hear.
