Jet Fan Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

Welker when healthy leads the league in receptions. Did Edelman catch 10 passes all season?

This is not really helpful. They play the same position. How many passes did Brady complete in 2000? When Edelman filled in for Welker as a rookie he was productive and showed quite a bit of skill. In fact, he was the best playmaker on the team in the playoff loss to Balt. Maybe he'll never catch 120 balls, but there's no doubt in my mind he would catch 80-100 if given the job full-time. I love Welker and I think his toughness and attitude is important to the team, but if they don't think they will resign him after next season, I'd rather get a 2nd round pick and go forward with Edelman.

Re: Credible Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

This thread is simply a reminder of the fact it's going to be a long, long offseason :ugh:

Until I hear this from someone like Mike Reiss, Ian Rapoport, Chris Price, SMY, or Jeff Howe, I'm dismissing it as rumor, especially considering WR is an area they still need help with. You lose Welker, now you need two guys instead of one (one slot, one outside guy). I love Edelman, but prior to the Miami game and the playoff game, the poor guy looked completely shaken confidence-wise. I wouldn't put all my stock in him until at least after seeing how he performs next season

Welker's not Moss, we didn't see Brady forcing the ball to him and messing up the offense. He's a guy who fits exactly what they want to do offensively. I understand the concept of not wanting to let a guy of his calibur walk and getting nothing in return, but I don't see them moving him. Not unless there's an irreparable rift with Belichick, and I'd like to think that's not the case.

Needless to say count me in the, "I don't see this happening category."

I agree with Ian. But...

We've seen this organization play hardball with established stars before. Law, Moss, Seymour, Milloy, et al. I grant you, those are all about money, and guys are shown the door with they say "pay me" to the media. We don't know what goes on in the locker room, and if this drives a wedge between BB and Wes, then it's possible it ends up being a discipline issue, like Adailus Thomas. I really can't see it, where this guy has been a model citizen, but stranger things have happend.

I call shenanigans!

(I'm still trying to understand why we're still discussing this bogus rumor....)

We're discussing the idea, not the rumor. The rumor is probably bogus. The idea has some merit.

I find it so ironic that basically the same people that were sick and tired of the Jets lack of character, 'antics', trash talk and disrespect of the Patriots have now turn on the team and are trashing Belichick, Brady, Welker and whoever else they feel like.

I often wonder how representative of the fan base this board is, but this week, when the 'fans' who didnt get the SB win they feel they have an entitlement to, turn against the best of the best in the league just to help them get over their own butt hurt, I feel embarrassed to be a part of it.
Those fans that turn on players like Brady and Welker are blind to the fact that they should be expressing their disgust with players such as Dan Connolly, who was by far the worst offensive player for the New England Patriots versus the New York Jets in the 2010 AFC Divisional Playoffs.

As for Tom Brady, he took way too many hits when the Jets defense primarily rushed only three to four defenders for the vast majority of the game. The New York Jets defense only blitzed at most three or four times the entire game.

Football games are won in the trenches, the time is NOW to start retooling the offensive line via the 2011 NFL Draft.

People forget about that.

Edleman needs more playing time.

There is actually discussion on this board where people say they looked into Brady's eyes and knew he didn't care about the game.
I don't know why ot has to be this way.

Discussing the possibility of trading Welker due to age, quality of backup and what he'll command on his next contract is not equivalent to "trashing" him. Personally, I'll never get why some people are so sensitive that they'll lash out at anyone and everyone who suggests that the Pats roster isn't absolutely perfect as currently constructed.

And among people who took issue with the Jets' (lack of) character, if they were going to look to anywhere on the roster, why wouldn't they look at Wes? He was enough of a pre-game distraction that Belichick saw fit to bench him, after all. If I was going to "trash" Welker, I'd trash him for picking a really bad time to get on BB's bad side.

trade moss
Trade BOB for a bag of balls and some odor eaters, cause his play calling still stinks.

You'd be pretty hard pressed to argue "character" over some mild jabs at Ryan's foot fetish. The benching said a lot more negative about Belichick than about Welker.

I still can't believe a thread based on a Twitter rumor from a guy who's inside sources had Braylon Edwards being cut in week 3 and LeBron James is going to sign with the Knicks has 210 posts to it. Even Jets fans thinks this guy is a joke and he is a fellow Jets fan and is a regular on WFAN.

BTW, considering the Pats can't even trade Welker until March at the earliest, do you really think one of the first thing Belichick would have done after losing to the Jets was start calling around the league to get the interest in Welker?

It has absolutely no merit at all. Edelman may have had a productive rookie year but that was because he was a new player and the opposition hadn't played him yet.

Welker on the other hand has been playing here for 3 years and the opposition knows him pretty well, yet they still can't shut him down.

Huge, huge difference there.

Sure. In about 5 weeks it will be March and it takes time to work out a deal.

If reports are true that Welker POed of BB by not reporting to his office when summoned, then I could see why BB would be wheeling and dealing.

What? Where are these reports?

What I read was that when BB asked WW if he intended to mention feet in his presser, WW denied it but as BB kept pressing, WW came clean.

Has anyone found out how CBS majically obtained this info about 10 minutes prior to kickoff? I've heard people here say that the Pats told them about it, and CBS implied that it came from the Pats, but I have not seen this confirmed anywhere. Likely they got there info from some other A-hole via Twitter.

And then we have some people here implying that Welker may be developing vaquely into some sort of 'cancer' because of his PC and benching, and others talking about "word on the street is that there's more to this than meets the eye." Based on WHAT? Lmao.

If you want to start picking hairs, I agree with Deus that, based on what we know, there's more evidence that BB mishandled this than that Welker himself caused some sort of lockerroom problem. Disclaimer: this is assuming that BB chose to leak this info publicly, rather than just benching Welker for a series and not telling anyone outside the lockerroom.

Simms overheard someone talking about it on the sidelines prior to the game.

Trade for Chuck Norris.

Probably the best post of this thread

Chuck Norris + Gronk = Unbeatable :rocker:

Theres a rumor that Welker blew BB off when called to his office after his feet comments.

Simms was on I think WEEI this week and said no one from the Pats told him directly that Welker had been benched and that to his knowledge this was not something they wanted to publicize.
