Back to the OP: were the Patriots not first in most power rankings after beating the Jets - or prior to then? I don't follow them that closely but I would have thought the Patriots would have been ranked first then - and possibly previous to that as well.

As far as 'not fitting well in the favorite role', I think the Pats are about 10-2 in games they have been favored to win this year.
