Coming up for game: Tailgating questions

I'm coming up from North Carolina, can't focus at work.

My friend and I plan on coming up relatively early (we should get there between 2-3 PM) and check out the Place, and I'd like to check out the tailgating scene. I've never tailgated before. I'm wondering what the norms of tailgating are, for instance, if I just wander around will it just be awkward, with people hanging out with their buds, not really interested in interacting with straggler tools like myself? Should I bring peace offerings like sausages or beers, or would that be considered gay?

More geneally, how's that whole scene work, can someone paint a picture, or even post a picture that would be cool. What's it like tailgating before a Patriots game?

I'm not being very productive at work this week, too excited. God I hope the Pats beat those clocky bastards.

LOL People generally stick to their own tailgates, but I think most people are generally friendly. Like if you see a baggo game going or tailgate toss, ther people probably won't say no...everyone is getting pretty drunk though usually so don't think your going to a library...Whenever I go, I go mainly for the tailgating aspect...

I've been a very long time season's tix holder (and tailgater). Believe it not, i'm taking a pass for the Monday night game..getting old I guess. It's a different crowd for night games vs. day. My advise..be sure u find a spot that's resonably lit as it now gets dark about 5pm. Also, If getting there early and parking in the main lots, park as close as RT 1 as possible. If everyone leaves at the same time. getting out of the lot can be tough. We always park in one of the smaller lots, more tailgate room and easier getaway.
Though people focus on their own company and tailgate, I find it very communal with lots of sharing.

Thanks a lot for the tips. Someone here kindly invited me to his tailgate party so at least there's one person I won't feel awkward about approaching.

I'm from New Hampshire originally, so am a pro with layering

Some of the private lots are "always open" because they are just parking lots. We actually arrived at the lot by the Seasonal Specialty Store on the corner of Pine St and Route 1 so early last year (for the Bills game) that we never even had to pay (FTW!).

Arriving at 7:30 is cutting it really close especially with rush hour traffic combined with game traffic. Best bet is one of the satellite lots and take the hike to the stadium.

I'd go nuts waiting 6 or 7 hours for the game. Better to arrive after 6, I think. That's just my style. I get so tense waiting for the game that time seems to stand still.

we had a great tailgate going for the colts game: breakfast burritos, clam chowder, eggplant stuff with lamb, and then my crazy cooking buddy deep fried a chicken. serious, and he had injected the meat with some awesome spices using a syringe before hand.

anyway, my point (beyond that my buddy is crazy about food) is that some chicks came over and asked for some ice. and then stayed the whole tailgate, pretty fun. so the lessons are:

1. if you are a good looking chick, you can mingle easily into other tailgates
2. asking for ice seems like a good line (ice breaker)
3. do not try to deep fry a chicken unless you are a pro, its dangerous.:rocker:

You can get a little more tailgating info here. My experience has been that you can strike up conversations and share food with the folks around you. We have a pretty good tailgate set up, with tent, heat, lights, and margarita machine. The machine is usually good to get people to stop and check out our TG. We tend to draw in the folks around us. It helps we always have too much food and end up sharing a lot.
