I tried posting in the other thread, but go no answers.

So I was wondering, can Moss say no teams that want to pick him up or does he have no choice at all?

He'd be their player but he'd be inactive losing his pro-rated money every week.

Just like Mankins is.

If Moss really doesn't want to be claimed, he should tell that to the media to warn teams they shouldn't waste their time because he won't play for them.

This won't happen, but it would scare teams off.

Technically he has no choice because the new team is taking over his contract, which is already signed, sealed and delivered.

However, this being Randy Moss and all, I suppose he could put out an APB telling all interested parties "If you claim me, you will regret it."

Can someone tell me about differences in rules waving a veteran vs a younger player? I recall that seniority has its privileges.

It seems to have worked for him when he told the Vikings, Raiders, Patriots and Vikings again, that if you make me stay here you will regret it.

Prior to the trade deadline, any player with 3 or less accrued seasons must clear waivers. Any player with more than 3 accrued seasons does not have to clear waivers.

After the trade deadline, all players must clear waivers before they are released.

If a player is a vested veteran and they were on a team roster for game 1, their contract is guaranteed.

So, by waiving Moss, the Vikings are on the hook for Moss' contract unless someone else claims him.

can moss not report to the team that picks him up off of waivers

see a dozen threads dealing with the Richard Seymour situation in the days following the trade before he reported.

This is still (barely) America, so no he doesn't have to play for anyone he doesn't want to. The catch is whoever is awarded his cliam holds his rights. SO he would lose (I think he is owed about 3.4 mil) around $330,000 a game. That is not a bad weekly paycheck, maybe too much to pass up.

He can say no, but that would be a win for whoever claims him. That means you keep him away from a rival for free. I just hope that he's done enough to scare teams off that he passes waivers. That would allow him a chance to re-sign with the Pats at a major discount (one can hope!) AND force Chilly's Vikings to pay the rest of his 2010 salary. Free Randy Moss!

That's widely reported, but it's not quite correct. The rule is that a player can claim the "severance pay" once. So, for example, if he had been cut before, and claimed the guaranteed salary, he would not be eligible to do so now (similarly, if he claims it this year, he can't claim it in the future).

Equally importantly, he could report, and then show them what "dogging it" really means.

Does he take away a spot if he chooses not to play? What if Jets sign him, he plays but instead of playing for jets, he plays for Pats, mess up their play, offensive interference, throw the ball to Pats defenders.... That'll be cool!

If a team claims him and Moss doesnt want to play for that team, then he would have to sit out the remainder of the 2010 season, and he does not get paid for the games that he misses. He would then be a free agent as of March 1st I believe

CT - Could you provide a link to this?? I hadn't heard it before. Just like I hadn't heard about the 10 year veteran max comp pick prior to today either.

Is the real question:

Could Randy Moss play for New England this year?

The question (and answer) has already been asked on the NFL network earlier and the possibility...although remote....is yes.

if 31 teams pass on Moss...and if the Patriots have a chance to take him....a huge if.....he could play for the Patriots.

A longshot scenario...but one that would be very intriguing to say the least.

Maybe he can fill retirement like and come back later as a free agent.

if he goes to the jets..........i may cry

if he goes to the jets..........i may cry
Why?
He cant produce with Tom Brady at QB, or Brett Favre at QB, what will he do with Mark Sanchez?
Answer: he will be a nonfactor on the field and a negative factor off of it.

if he goes to the Jets we will pickup the player they let go and make a star out of him.
