Re: Schefter: Patriots trade Maroney to Denver [merged]

Wait... Im confused here.

Are you saying that he got busted sucking a **** at a rest stop?

never said a certain pats player got "busted" for doing the Provincetown shuffle at a rest stop

A statie came upon a a two man johnson race at a rest stop

certain Boston media folks know about this incident from a few years back

Poor choices, immature behavior are what put this guy in BB's dog house.

maroney was a head case with some questionable off field incidents that never made the press...he had to go.

Two words - Peter Puffer..... just sayin'

Ask Reiss about a certain rest area - state police incident involving a pats player a few years back.

Why don't you put the details in writing here? Otherwise, it sounds like you're just another @ssmaggot troll with maybe some personal issues of your own.

If you aren't man enough to post this with facts, names dates and places to back it up, then you're a pretty lowlife bottom dweller yourself. Your name isn't Borges, is it?

I am glad we got something for him, seeing he was in a walk year (depending on the CBA.) Makes me think this weekend's deactivation was more of a performance reason than injury reason.

Wow! You had the feeling something was up when LoMo didn't play Sunday but trading him wasn't what came to mind But it just wasn't happening here for him, maybe Denver will be a better fit. Plus he might get more play time than he would here this season so good for him! Our 2011 draft's looking pretty good too Let's hope our boys stay healthy, RB's make me injury-nervous, I was fine with having them all on board lol.

Good Luck KoolAid (except against us)!

Re: Schefter: Patriots trade Maroney to Denver for 2011 4th - Broncos get 2011 6 [mer

It's above average I believe, but I want to see Wilhite take the next step (thought he played pretty well in week one) before I include him, and early returns on Hernandez are great but he's had one game and one catch so far to truly evaluate.

If that's only above average, then there must be some teams that have done notably better. Can you list these teams?

Some comparisons over the same period:

Colts:
2000: Josh Williams
2001: Ryan Diem
2002: David Thornton
2003: Steve Sciullo
2004: Kendyll Pope, Jason David
2005: Dylan Gandy, Matt Giordano
2007: Brannon Condren, Clint Session
2008: Jacob Tamme
2009: Austin Collie, Terrance Taylor
2010: Jacques McClendon

Diem is a good player, Thornton had one good year, David got a big FA contract before everyone realized that he sucked, Session is legit, and Collie has proven to be pretty decent depth so far. Colts have also been very impressive in the 4th, but Pats have been better.

Steelers:
2000: Danny Farmer
2001: Mathias Nkwenti
2002: Larry Foote
2003: Ivan Taylor
2005: Fred Gibson
2006: Willie Colon, Orien Harris
2007: Daniel Sepulveda, Ryan McBean
2008: Tony Hills
2010: Thaddeus Gibson

So they got Larry Foote and Willie Colon as very good players, some pretty good depth, and a good punter. This a lot closer to what you'd expend to find for fourth round picks.

This is why I'm a Maroney defender. Not because I agree so much with the people who love him, but because I am so disgusted by the exaggerations of the people who bash him.

Duane Starks leaving was addition by subtraction. He brought zero value. Maroney was quality depth. Shouldn't be starting with Taylor here, but he was huge against the Chargers in 2007 and if Taylor and Morris go down, I'd rather have him than BJGE.

But why am I bothering? You'll just read this as me thinking Maroney is all-pro, because apparently "middle-ground" is a blasphemy for some people on this board.

You are not alone. There's virtually no chance Taylor and Morris are available throughout the entire year. They're both scrappy, but they are also old with a rich history of injuries. If that trend somehow reverses itself this year then we will be sitting in some tall cotton, but realistically it's a foolish hope.

Is lawfirm really better than Maroney?

Isn't the question really "Is LawFirm + 4th > Maroney + 6th"?

Even though we're all taking this trade as an indictment of Maroney, it's hard to imagine that Taylor, Morris or Green-Ellis have any trade value whatsoever. So if they decided to trim an RB, Maroney didn't have to be the weakest link to be the one to go -- it just had to be reasonably close.

So being gay (to humor you for a second and assume that your rumor is true) is a poor choice? Don't quite get what you're driving at, here...

If this thread de-evolves into another one like the Brandon Spikes sex scandal one (which I admit, I helped fuel regrettably), I'm gonna lose my mind.

Same- the funny thing is, I don't think that anyone here ever claimed at any point that Maroney was an all-pro. He's just a serviceable RB who was a hell of a lot better than BJGE, for example. But he's in the last year of his contract, we need a roster spot, and someone was willing to give us a 4th for him. Works for me.

Warren's going to be 30 next year, and he'll be coming back from hip surgery. I know that I pound on wanting to keep the D-line in a 3-4 stocked, but I do it because I think it's the key to that type of defense unless you've got LT/Andre Tippett roaming among the linebackers. I want them to go DE/OL/OLB with the first 3 picks, preferably in that order, although I could certainly get comfortable with taking an OLB before the guard.

Who knows, Mayo could turn into an LT/Andre Tippett

I don't necessarily disagree. Hell, I don't even know who the prospects coming out are, so I can't really make an informed comment as to the order in which I think we should select them.

I will say that I would not like to see a CB, S, ILB, NT, or TE taken early, and would love to see an OC, OG, OLB, and DE taken. Preferably, I'd like to find Koppen's replacement sooner rather than later.

Deus-

Do you anticipate them moving Vollmer or Kaczur to LT or to resign Light? If Mankins is gone we'll need an LG and an LT.

Yup, that's what I'm taking away from it. Bottom line is that Maroney was the only RB on our roster who had any trade value at all, and the Pats routinely hit on 4th rounders. I was as big of a Maroney fan as you'll find around here, and I don't hate the trade.

Amen. Can we please stop slinging around rumors/slurs NOW, before this incredibly relevant thread gets derailed and shut down?

Well, if it were me (and it's not), I'd re-sign Light and keep Vollmer on the right. That allows the team to draft interior linemen, because Neal will be playing his last year and Koppen's taken a beating.

Besides, with Maroney gone, Light's the only whipping boy left.

Re: Schefter: Patriots trade Maroney to Denver [merged]

McCourty authentic would be pretty badass; have a feeling that one will be relevant for a long time. Same with Chung.

Re: Maroney to Denver per Schefter...

wow that's low compensation...
Maybe Jarvis Moss?
Another "bust"??

We basically gave up a wasted 1st round pick, a future (2011) 6th rounder for Denver's 2011 4th rounder.

Can we now, finally, acknowledge that Laurence Maroney was a bust?

He's Josh McDaniel's headache now.

Re: Schefter: Patriots trade Maroney to Denver for 2011 4th - Broncos get 2011 6 [mer

Maroney may have shown more than BJGE but that's b/c he's gotten every opportunity in the world here.

If Maroney is better than BJGE it is only by a small amount and all of his injuries, dancing and fumbles offsets that difference.

I'd rather have the average running back than the one that has shown to be above average but fumbles inside the 5 when you need him most and is always getting injured.

Maroney is a liability and now he's Denver's problem.

Re: Schefter: Patriots trade Maroney to Denver [merged]

That would explain all the dancing!

But the pick doesn't apply this season. And 4th round picks aren't gold. I mean, Ohrnberger (hey, I spelled his name right on the first try!).

To me it's an issue of running back depth in a league where RBs drop like flies versus a marginal pick next year. I mean, it's not like we're guaranteed to land a Hernandez or a Ghost.

Weird trade.
