Of course, that is NOTHING, compared to the cost incurred by the Satanic selling of ALL the following to the New York KnickerBockers:
(If you're not from or of New England, you will NEVER be a Yankee)
SP Carl Mays
SP Bullet Joe Bush
SP Sad Sam Jones
SP Herb Pennock
SP Waite Hoyt
SP Red Ruffing
SS Everett Scott
C Wally Schang
3B Joe Dugan
....and you may've heard'f their Left Fielder.
***
These 10 players ~ excluding Ruffing ~ were all given away in the early 20's by Harry Frazee, between 1919 and 1923.
The Red Sox had built THE Greatest Dynasty in Sports History, winning 5 World Series from 1903 to 1918...and winning a 6th, by default, when the pansies of New York didn't have the balls to face the Champs!!
And if SCUMBAG Frazee hadn't sold the team, piece by piece, we would've won at LEAST another 5 more in the 20's.
The Reputation that the KnickerBockers earned in the 20's ~ the Reputation that was forged as much from OUR players, as from their OWN ~ would've been OURS...and would've been TWICE as auspicious, due to our building not a 10 year Dynasty, as the Knicks did, but a 30 YEAR Dynasty...with at least 10 World Series Championships.
And considering that the Draft wasn't initiated until 1965, the virtually unregulated recruiting of young talent that went on, over the decades and decades before then, would've probably gone remarkably differently: I cannot COUNT the number of books I've read by players who grew up longing to become part of the "Yankee" legend of the KnickerBocker Nine.
Who KNOWS how many of them ~ and MORE!! ~ would've grown up longing to part of the legendary RED SOX!!
*With Yawkey taking over in 1933, we had enough money to compete with New York for Scouting and Bonuses...and the reputation of a team ~ ours ~ that'd already won 10 or more World Championships in 30 years would've DWARFED that of the perennial also-rans of New York.
The History of BaseBall from 1933 to 1964 might've gone VERY differently.
But, no: I'm NOT bitter!!
