The Jets suck (merged)

Why? Seriously. Nobody HAS to be a Green Beans fan. Nobody. They do it of their own free will, which makes no sense. The only logical explanation is mental illness of one sort or another. Exhibit A is The Angry Fire Elf. Pathologists would have a field day studying that guy.

Dr Brit says:

At some level the Jester fans want their team to fail. Forget the pre-season bluster. It's fun to listen to them now but it's not the true Jets fanhood.

When the inevitable collapse comes it confirms everything they really, truly and deeply believe about the world. And then you won't find the true Jets fan on our boards. No, he'll be having too much fun p*ssing and moaning with the rest of his resentful buddies about the coaches/front office/league/Patriots -- in fact, everything that makes the world the unfair and hostile place he thinks it is.

Sounds like the old Red Sox fan disease, otherwise known as FMS -- Fan Masochist Syndrome. They're not happy unless they're upset, because it's what they're familiar with and anything else makes them insecure. It makes total sense, and also explains the Green Beans fan behavior after they squeaked by the Pats in their game two Super Bowl last season: I was at the game and Beans fans were more focused on screaming insults at departing Pats fans than celebrating their victory. They otherwise would be directing that negativity at their own team. They didn't seem all that happy to go 2-0. They don't know how to handle winning, as they've been conditioned over decades to be angry and obnoxious no matter what.

Jet fan is not smart enough, does not possess the requisite number of braincells,to suffer from FMS.

I was one of the those superstitious folks who said the Jets were never going to win a championship while playing in GIANTS STADIUM. Something like that plays with the mind on a sub-conscious level. Now that they are no longer playing in GIANTS STADIUM, I believe the Jets psyche can move forward.

Just my hypothesis.

A few more days and this thread will be a top 10 for a month.

Well Done. :rocker:

Nothing has changed.Jest will be playing in NEW GIANTS STADIUM and still suck.
Good luck going to Miami week 3 with 0-2 record.

Problem with that is they would have actually have had success before- one trip to the Super Bowl doesn't qualify for FMS, to qualify they have had to have gone there and failed multiple times before. They haven't been there, the closest they have been is the AFC championship game and even then they got their butts kicked all three times.

The Dolphins and Bills qualify, those 60s Bills and early 70s Dolphins championships gave them a taste of success but they haven't been good enough to win again despite multiple appearances in Super Bowls since then.

I believe it's called Meadowlands Stadium.

I don't believe the Jets will be 0-2 going into Miami. But that's just my opinion. The Ravens added Boldin, yes. But with Revis covering him I don't know if they have the air attack to beat the Jets.

Wasn't that the fig leaf the NFL adopted so the JEST wouldn't have to admit that they played in Giants Stadium?

How will the Jets score points against the #1 run defense in the league?

Please give some compelling reason why you have that opinion. Or is it just a wishful thought? Why do you believe they'd beat the Patriots on a short week coming off a very physical loss to the Ravens?

Ladeez und jennumen,

My learned colleague Professor Doonschrkeib agrees viz my diagnosis. Ve haff a classic case!

This thread desrves credit, albeit it was stating the blatantly obvious. I suggest we also add two new threads, "Dolphins Haven't Done Anything since 1980" or "Bills Have A Tendency To Lose Super Bowls"

Please give some compelling reason why you have that opinion. Or is it just a wishful thought? Why do you believe they'd beat the Patriots on a short week coming off a very physical loss to the Ravens?

Well here is why I believe The Jets will have an advantage when the Ravens have the ball:

Everyone who watched the Ravens last season said they were a receiver or two away from being upper elite. Sure they could run the ball, but they didn't have that No.1 type receiver to threaten defenses vs the air. So they add Anquan Boldin to be that No.1 receiver. But if Boldin is negated by Revis then who will pick up the slack at receiver for the Ravens? It will have to be Donte Stallworth or Derrick Mason. The one strength the Ravens added to put them over the top can be negated by the Jets pass defense.

I look at it like this: Only two quarterbacks were able to pass for over 300 yards vs the Jets last season, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady...two of the top 10 quarterbacks of ALL TIME!
Keep in mind that was the first year of the Jets newly installed 46 blitzkreg defense. I expect the Jets defense to be even better than last season. I don't think that Joe Flacco, a good QB in his own right, will be able to do what those two future HOF's did.

Also one thing not to be overlooked is the offensive line that the Ravens have. As good as they are with run blocking...they allowed 36 sacks and an 72 QB hits (both good for 20th in the league). Now, I will say that the sacks could very well be coverage sacks. But this goes in the jets favor as well for reasons mentioned before. As such I fully believe the Jets will be able to fully devise a plan in which they will be able to take advantage of the Raven offensive line.

Plus...the Jets run defense was 8th in the league without Kris Jenkins for 10 games. I believe he will come back and not allow Rice/McGahee/McClain to run between the tackles, thus slowing (not stopping) the impressive run game of the Ravens.

Here is why I believe the Jets will muster enough points on offense to win the game:

I'm not going to lie to you: I don't know how much Mark Sanchez will improve. I know that he will...no doubt about that. But I don't know how much he will have improved by next season. But I believe that he will be able to attack the Ravens one apparent weakness, the secondary. Here is an excerpt from an article I got from the Baltimore ravens website regarding their secondary:

"It's an understatement to say the situation needs to continue to move in the right direction. To get to the top in the NFL, which has never been more pass-happy than it is now, you need to have some success quashing teams such as the Colts and Saints. The Ravens struggled at times in 2009, and although their statistics were solid in the end, they hope to do better in 2010.

An amped-up pass rush is part of their solution, but the pass defense itself also needs to perform better. Taking the patient approach, rather than bold steps, was their largest gamble of this offseason. But it was a calculated gamble for sure, and it could be that the Ravens calculated correctly."

Here is the link for anyone who thinks I've spun this out of context to support my views.

Baltimore Ravens | News | Eisenberg: Biggest Gamble Of Offseason

Now obviously Sanchez is neither Manning nor Brees and the Jets passing attack is not of the Colts or Saints caliber. But with that being said, that amount of uncertainty in the off season is not likely to be resolved by free agents the Ravens are signing. If people think Cromartie is done, and isn't an upgrade over Sheppard, check out some of the players the Ravens are trying to sign to bolster their secondary. At least the Jets are going for players who might regain some greatness. Unlike the Ravens however, who are trying just to get quantity.

The Ravens have the clear advantage in terms of their Run D vs the Jets Run O.

Removing Thomas Jones and Alan Faneca from the starting lineup and replacing them with Shonn Greene and (insert player here) respectively takes the running game down from an A to a B- in my opinion. Still the Ravens will have the advantage...esp if the rookie Ducasse starts this season. I don't think that this advantage will be enough to overcome the advantages I believe the Jets will have.

I expect a hard fought game. I believe the Ravens secondary will be somewhat of a liability and the Jets pass defense stifling the Ravens additions at receiver. The Ravens will be forced to run the ball and it won't be effective enough to get a win. I'm thinking a Jets 20 -Ravens 14 type of score.

Mexican Glider?

If Sanchez goes down then so do the Jets unfortunately. No Tom Brady's waiting for their turn on this team.

I was just now cleaning my parrot's cage and in the process of lining the bottom tray with old newspaper, I came across the Pats-at-Jersey Globe preview from last season. There's a big picture of Bart Scott on the page. I strategically placed Scott looking up at where my bird often perches, so with luck he'll catch one right in the kisser! I might even take a photo if/when that happens and post it here. Hard to think of a more deserving guy to get (literally) dumped on. Interesting, too, that my bird likes to EAT green beans! I think he hates the Jersey team as much as I.

So you ask me to give you a compelling reason why I think the Jets would not be 0-1 going into the Patriots game. I give you gold and get nothing.
