The Jets suck (merged)

Not open for further replies.
This is a funny thread lol. Sure most of these moves have risks but as Mike Tannenbaum said, they are all calculated, low cost risks. We didn't go all Dan Synder style in the offseason. I'll review what we did this past offseason.

Santonio Holmes - We only traded a 5th rd pick to acquire him, which I'm sure you guys wouldn't of mind throwing up a 4th rd pick instead of starting ancient Torry Holt while Welker recovers. he is suspended for the firs 4 games, but that won't hurt us too much. Braylon Edwards isn't going to be suspended and only fined from what I've read so no biggie there. He is also on a 1 year deal. Worst case scenario he sucks and we move on. This trade was an easy one.

Antoinio Cromartie - He was a monster in 2007. No coincidence that was the last year Shawn Merriman was relevent. Their pass rush hasn't been the same since and they changed their scheme from press man to man(similar to what Ryan runs) to a lot more zone coverage(which Cro clearly fails at). Anyone who can pick off Peyton Manning 3 times in one half has great ability. With the Jets he will be back in a press man to man scheme along with a team that applies as much pressure as possible, which allows our defense to cover opposing players as little as possible. Along with trying to populate Cali over the years, he had 7 kids that defintely led to distractions. He is human how can it not? We gave up a 3rd that may, and hopefully, turns into a 2nd based on playing incentive. I say hopefully because that means hes beasting it for us. He is also on a 1 year deal. Worse case scenario he sucks/gets injured, Kyle Wilson steps in the following year and we move on.

LaDainian Tomlinson - He is tougher to project. We released Thomas Jones because he was SHOT by the end of the year and practically loss his starting spot to Shonn Greene, who is his replacement not Tomlinson. Tomlinson will be filling in Greenes role from last year. San Diegos oline has declined mightly these past few years along with losing Lorenzo Neal, one of the best blocking FBs of all time. They completely changed their philosophy, and rightfully so, due to the combination of progress in Rivers and the decline in LT and the run blocking. Tomlinson isn't the same from his 2006 MVP season that much is clear but we do not need him to come in and put up 32 TDs. We just need him to be a change of pace back, provide good plays on 3rd downs, and bring excellent pass protection out of the backfield, and occasionally red zone TDs. All 4 of those aspects he can still do well. He will be getting a tremendous upgrade on the oline and at FB with Tony Richardson. Again for his role he should be fine but he is a injury risk. He signed a 2 year/$5M+ deal so if he is terrible, can easily be cut in the offseason.

Jason Taylor - Similar to LT but not as important to the team. We have our starter in Bryan Thomas, we just need a better pass rusher on obvious passing downs. Some may say he can't do that but hes gotta be better then Thomas in that category. Strictly 3rd down pass rusher. He signed basically a 1 year deal due to big bonus in year 2, so again minimum risk. Might as well say 1 year deal.

Brodney Pool - Kerry Rhodes' replacement, will be an upgrade in athletism, physical play, and playmaking ability. Rhodes has better coverage skills and awareness but is coming off one of the worse seasons of his career. Pools issue isn't that he can't play but that he can't stay healthy. Am I expecting big things from him? No but he can't play any worse than how Rhodes played last year. This is more of a addition by subtraction move. Rhodes wasn't gonna play good here regardless so how good he could be is irrelevent for us.

Cutting Alan Faneca - Absolutely the biggest question mark of our off season. Huge asset in the runnning game and just as much as a liability in the passing game. Can open up huge holes while also getting our QB single-handley killed. Is the player we replace him with going to be better? No. Based on our acquistions can we afford to take a slight step back? Absolutely. You can't improve everywhere one very move just isn't realistic. This is more for the future and us getting much younger across the oline.Hopefully his replacements step up. At least they will be inbetween 2 pro bowl caliber players in Mangold and Brick to ease the transition.

Our Draft - Kyle Wilson was a coin toss away from being the #7 overall pick so I obviously love the pick. He is also insurance for Cromartie and will help us where we got hurt the most in the playoffs, depth in the secondary. Ducasse is an awesome athlete with tons of potential. Whether he plays LG this year or not, atleast he gives us much needed depth with his ability to play multiple positions. Joe McKnight is a underachiever who could easily turn it up or become nothing. He was a 4th rd pick so very small investment on our part though he can become good. Leon having a double compound fracture all but assures hes not going to come back the same. I wish him the best but we got younger and more athletic at RB. The FB Conner was a luxury pick with Tony Richardson possibly playing is final season, we have someone who can step in immediately while learning from one of the best to ever do it the following year.

I don't think we had a bad offseason at all, especially considering we were limited by the final 4 rules. I feel like plenty of teams wish they added the amount of talent that we did and it could of been a lot worse(Bills?). John Clayton thinks we had the 3rd best offseason in the NFL. I think we had the best but thats my opinion. The AFC East reloaded on a lot of new talents, this year should be another war zone.

Well, that seals the deal. Congrats on yet another off-season title!

Are you referring prophetically to the impending war zone in the Green Beans locker room? Because with all the head cases your team added coupled with the ouster of some veteran leadership, your carnival freak show has just gotten a lot freakier.

well...I got some more news you're going to hate reading, David. Roger Goodell's father is Charles Goodell, multi- term Senator from the state of....here it comes...NEW YORK. His son Roger was a three sport star in high school on...here it comes....Long Island. Charles Goodell has held a box at the Meadowlands since 1977 for ALL JET HOME GAMES.At that time, in 1977,there are documented reports of abusive rowdyism displayed by the Senator's son and his friends directed at fans of other teams there to see their team play. These occurred while Roger Goodell was a senior in high school and a freshman in college. Questions were asked about Charles Goodell squashing assault charges stemming from his son's and friends behaviour at Jet games but only eye witness testimony remains today, the records disappeared.

Leon Hess was a close personal friend of Senator Goodell and a generous campaign contributor. Hess gave Roger his big break as an intern and personally vouched for him when he was hired by the NFL.Woody Johnson bought the complete Hess team holdings in 2000, a transaction that involved hefty input by Roger Goodell.Johnson is a life long Republican as is Senator Goodell and the two had numerous business dealing over the decades of Goodell's political sway in the NY metro area.

THIS is just a SMALL part of a MOUNTAIN of circumstantial evidence that points to collusion between Roger Goodell and the NY Jets Football Club. He's dirty.AND he's arrogant. In this country this combination always has a fall. In Goodell's case I sincerely hope it leads to a federal indictment for racketeering and a long incarceration in the federal penal system.

And yet if the Pats were never caught cheating nothing would have happened. You are just a sad sad little man.

Well he placed you guys #1 so I guess your team has the off-season title. We'll just walk away with the bronze and you go home with your cool Gold JC trophy, with Miami bringing home the silver trophy. Let's ignore everything I stated. :rocker:

We have plenty of veteran leadership, do you?

ShaunJohn isn't a troll. However, it is hilarious to watch Rexorcism try to convince himself that Sanchez won football games by himself for the Jets last year.

I distinctly recall him losing games for them.

Thats funny. I don't recall ever saying he won any games by himself.

I did state that he was the starting QB of a team that made the playoffs and AFC champ game.

When were the pats caught cheating?

You sure can't seem to admit that the team won in spite of him, though.

This means nothing to me, and Clayton means even less.

Yes, we have Tom Brady, Vince Wilfork, Kevin Faulk, etc. And you have ... Oh yeah -- those three pillars of society: Cromartie, Edwards and Holmes.

Cromartie may be father of the year, but I doubt his abilities as a leader.

haha I guess you chose to not read that article? Where Tom Brady is questioning the leadership and mental toughness of your team and how important it is to improve the chemistry because of lack of trust, etc? Ya know the same team with Tom Brady, Vince Wilfork, Kevin Kaulk, etc lol

You know what former players say about our locker room?

The Truth about Jay Feely and why he left the Jets - New York Jets Forums

Feely expressed regret over leaving the Jets' locker room, which he described as borderline utopian.

"There's no question that I love that organization," Feely said. "It's a great locker room. The guys on that team are tremendous to be around, a very open and welcoming locker room with a lot of young talent. The foundation is in place for them to be good for a long time.

"The relationship between the coaches and players is unique. It's an ideal fit. The coaches have authority and demand the most, but have the respect of the players, who give their best out of mutual admiration.

"Nobody would want to leave that environment."

Feely's 122 points last year ranked third in Jets history for scoring among kickers. He set a club record with 24 straight field goals and tied a team record with a 55-yarder in Week 8.

Feely converted 30 of his 36 attempts, ranking 17th among regulars at 83.3 percent. He made 12 of 15 attempts from 40 yards and out.

"I got calls from every coach, from [special-teams coordinator] Mike Westhoff to [offensive coordinator] Brian Schottenheimer and Rex," Feely said, "and all of them had awesome things to say.

"I can leave feeling good, knowing that I gave everything I had. I know they respect me as a player and a leader and a man."

Last I checked QB was an integral part of a football team.
And the Jets won half of their games largely in spite of his play.

Thats the diference.
Patriots win the division and feel like they failed and question everything.
Jets get handed a 9th win and playoff spot and its utopia.

See the difference is Tom Brady has 3 rings and he isn't satisfied.
The Jets finally had a season where they became somewhat relevant and all they can do is talk about how great they are.
Do you not see the irony in Brady, with his track record focussing on improvement and Ryan with his overtly bragging in the media?

I think its more 2 teams with 2 different personalites and neither are right or wrong, because they are who they are. The Patriots are hush hush about everything and go about their business so what? We like to talk sh!t so what? Though we got handed 2 games prior to getting to the playoffs, we certainly played like we belonged going to the AFCCG, do you disagree? Why should we feel sorry for other teams failing to capitalize against our slim chances?

I don't think they feel like they failed because they won the division. I think they feel liked they failed because of what happened to them in the playoffs. The expectations in New England are high and rightfully so they should be. I'm honest about my team, your QB, leader and champoion is questioning the leadership in your teams locker room. Do you disagree wtih him and know something he doesn't?

I think Rex Ryan is off to a terrific start. I think hes an excellent coach who progressed through the season, both on the field and off. He has his pros and cons like anyone else who coaches. Like I said everyone has different styles and personalites, what you guys do works for you and what Ryan and what the Jets do works for them. Whats wrong with that?

See you are doing the same thing. You are talking about both systems as if they have been equally successful.
Ryan hasn't accomplished much yet. I know he thinks he has. If every season of his coaching career includes a 1-6 slide, and NEEDING the last 2 opponents to give up in order to get the 6th and last playoff slot he will not last long. Yet, somehow he had a 'terrific start' backing into the same record that got Mangini fired, and 'what the Jets do works for them'
Sure, they can do whatever they want, but I don't remember very many teams led by loud mouths who got in front a camera and wanted to tell everyone how great they are or teams that bragged about moderate success becoming champions.

And the fact that Tom Brady called out the leadership in the lockerroom and it didnt meet HIS standards doesnt mean the Jets lockerroom had better leadership.
Brady is comparing it to where he sets the bar. We don't know where the Jets set the bar, perhaps at flipping off wrestling fans, fat contests, or marking the field with urine and the Ravens did when Ryan and Scott were there.

Actually, most former players speak highly of the Pats, or say nothing at all. I suspect since Adalius Thomas couldn't keep his yap shut while on the team, he will have lots to say after he lands a job somewhere.

And I do like the revisionist history of last season. Any Jets fan who can say the team should have been better than 8-8 and out of the playoff, with 2 wins against the Bungals that had no offense on the field during the last 5 games of the regular season (average of what, 14 ppg?), as necessary to build this stellar regard, probably needs to revisit last year's game footage. If the Colts did not tank that regular season game, the Jets would be, at best, an afterthought going into this season.

I will credit them with a good game against the Chargers in the playoffs, but I will be interested in seeing if that Utopian locker room and all its new faces implodes prior to game 8 of the regular season. What's the over-under on when that happens, by the way?
