Re: Gut feeling: Buffalo is going to offer a pick-package for Big Ben

I do not carry the same burden of evidence as a court of law.

He had the assumption of innocense until the transcirpts were released.

Not going to trial because of a lack of evidence is NOT the same as being innocent.

The story being told is pretty plain.

Rapist pervert scum. The PA state cop is just as bad. "To Serve and Pander"
I'm not saying it did or didn't happen. As a matter of fact I think he's in the upper echelon of filth. What I am suggesting is the allegations cannot be proved and innocence HAS to be assumed.

Stones and glass houses.

Innocence has to be presumed in court of course yes, but the jury of public opinion runs differently. There is a concerted pattern of behaviour here, multiple incidents. Calling him Rapistberger is harsh as you say but then this is a sports message board where standards exist but are a bit more lax than in formal company.

No worries, if the Bills take him, all BB has to do is set a honeytrap before the game. Problem solved.

LOL. Nice.

Trash the kid all you want, when he's on the field he's a 2 time super bowl champ, and his performance in the Steelers vs. Arizona superbowl was epic.

Roethlisberger will be punished by the league somehow, it is just a question of how severe the punishment is. Any trade involving big ben will need a minimum of a 1st rounder plus more.

He didn't really win the superbowls- he has two of the lowest QB ratings for a SB quarterback.

Against Arizona, Ben was 21-30 for 256 Yards and a 93.2 rating

Obviously you were sleeping during this game,Ben was awesome in that game

The Seattle SB was a different story

I would agree that he didn't win the first one. But there's no way the Steelers win the second one unless Big Ben delivered, and he did.

That pass to Holmes in the corner of the endzone was epic and reminded me of Montana to Taylor. What I find ironic though, is that just 2 years later, it's possible that neither of the players who formed that superbowl winning combo will still be wearing a Steelers uniform.

Don't get me wrong, as a human being, Big Ben is a turd. But as a football player, he's been one of the tops in the league at the QB position.

In a formal court the jury is instructed to base its decision on reasonable doubt. That means that six papers showing guilt can become meaningless if there is just one showing innocence. In a civil suit guilt is determined based on a preponderance of the evidence. The six papers to one means he's guilty. (the papers are just representing pieces of evidence) It appears that Patsfans has very civil members.

Re: Gut feeling: Buffalo is going to offer a pick-package for Big Ben

Ben has already posed as a hood ornament. He looks fat and dissipated (I know about these things). He's still facing a court case in Nevada which now has another case to exercise discovery upon, not to mention the third case reported to have occurred in Las Vegas. You may have a cynical view of the Rooney's, but they do have some success in the league and a reputation to consider.

I'm not really sure what Ben using his face as a windshield washer has to do with him quite possibly being a rapist. I guess that you view this as an "incident" when I view it as an "accident". As for the shape he's in, the guy has always looked fat and dissipated. He's one of the more out-of-shape looking quarterbacks in the league. That hasn't changed. As for the cases, I know what's going on. I'm merely explaining why I believe the Steelers, in spite of the way they treated Holmes, will exercise a little more patience with Roethlisberger. Sure the witness testimony looks bad (horrible indeed), but I think the Steelers are going to let this play out a little more before they either swing the axe or announce that he's going to be their starting quarterback for the rest of his days in the NFL.

Yes, the motorcylce "incident" is just that, specifically an accident compounded by extremely poor judgment and disregard for the Head Coach's counsel. It's the first major black mark on his record because it did hurt the team. Based on media reports, Ben currently as had or is facing allegations of sexually predatory behavior in four incidents, two in Nevada and two in Georgia. It may be as you say, the Rooney's may hold their noses and hang onto him, their drafting this week may give us some idea...I also wouldn't be surprised to learn they traded for Jason Campbell.

But you'd think that people would have learned from things like the Duke Lacrosse and Richard Jewel cases, and at least reined in the excesses until all the facts from both/all sides had been presented.

They will hang on to him for the forseeable future based on his present verbal committment to them to change his lifestyle going forward. But they are aware that talk is cheap and they apparently are expecting to see some signs from Ben that he is finally waking up to the fact that from those to whom much has been given, including face of the franchise contracts, much is expected off as well as on the field. According to Peter King Ben is finally ascared...which I had a feeling the Rooney's deliberately set out to do by not jumping to his defense or trying to assist in any coverup or feather smoothing but rather letting perceptions fester including the possibility he could be traded and will be if he doesn't clean up his act. Supposedly he's already signed off on whatever punishment is meted out including counseling.

While the Rooney's wanted to handle the suspension themselves it is now reported Goodell will act as soon as tomorrow after reading the police reports (probably because it's also clear and the DA has confirmed that Ben could have been charged with supplying alcohol to a minor and wasn't only because the DA didn't want to charge the victim herself with a misdemeanor or compel her to testify since her only reason for requesting that the prosecution not go forward was to avoid the media spotlight and put the entire incident behind her).

Will be interesting to see if Goodell goes beyond the 4 game limit the team would have faced or if he's just going to take this route to establish a precedent for Ben being under his broader jurisdiction going forward...which includes the potential to suspend you for a lot longer in the event another incident takes place.

Well, if Crazy Al does toss a second their way, I can still see Ben riding the short bus to Oakland. Rooney's remarks didn't come across as overly confident, and Ben may or may not be "scared," that's a whole 'nother ball game in and of itself.

Re: Gut feeling: Buffalo is going to offer a pick-package for Big Ben

Schefter and LaCanfora are now hearing that the decision will not come today, might come tomorrow but will very likely come by Wednesday. Part of the rationale beyond Goodell's increasing anger after reading the police reports publicly is that teams feel it would not be fair to drafting teams if the Steelers knew their status vis a vis Ben prior to draft day while their opponents didn't. Some feel the action should be announced before the long anticipated (and apparently this year fluid) schedule is announced to avoid the perception that scheduling somehow was intertwined with the length of suspension, while others feel it must at least be settled before the draft so that teams facing the Steelers early on know whom they are likely facing.

Re: Gut feeling: Buffalo is going to offer a pick-package for Big Ben

heh..that didn't stop the felon, Jetdell, from announcing all kinds of rat ba$tard pronouncements vis a vis the Patriots before important events...LIKE THE GD'D SEASON OPENER!!!! I can't believe this arrogant schmuck.

Re: Gut feeling: Buffalo is going to offer a pick-package for Big Ben

If he gets suspended for the season, I'm going to the Steelers message board to remind them that this is bad karma for how hard they cheered when Brady went down two years ago.

Re: Gut feeling: Buffalo is going to offer a pick-package for Big Ben

It'll still be fun.

It's largely Benaphile aholes posting the last few days. Most of the real fans are so disgusted they have either taken a sabatical or they try to correct the perception that they're all as callous as the self absorbed cads who think any female who had trouble doing Ben's bidding must have just been a scummy little gold digger from the get go... The old boys will be boys argument... I think most rank and file Steeler fans are down with a suspension even if it's 4+ games and they're just hoping he wakes up or they do want him gone.

I think he's gonna get at least 4 (and counseling of some sort...) or they'd have let the Rooney's handle it. Goodell wants it on record as a violation of the personal conduct code. If it's more than that Ben may want to appeal, but that means another sitdown with his uncle Roger, after he had a chance to peruse the police reports, so if I were Ben I'd just take my punishment and announce I'm going to do missionary work in some god forsaken third world country until TC opens or personally donate a million to women's charities...

Apparently today Tomlin gave a speech in the locker room he's denying, but according to players they were told there is a zero tolerance policy going forward. Doesn't quite jive with Rooney's statement that incidents would still be evaluated on an individual basis and value at your position would be a factor in whether or not you're axed... Having finally gotten their players attention the powers that be would be advised not make asses of themselves...or each other.

I'd pay a penny for Cowher's thoughts this week...

Re: Gut feeling: Buffalo is going to offer a pick-package for Big Ben

Now Goodell is contemplating an announcement DURING the draft... yeesh... But then again this is the guy who though a pro bowl game the week before the superbowl in the same city as the superbowl was a good idea.

Speaking of sexual assaults...seems a Colt has taken a page out of Ben's Vegas act book...need a toothpaste kit vs. my TV is on the fritz...LOL
