I could only watch what I saw on Red Zone and as craptastic as this loss was I can't help but wonder why if BB wanted it he would have gone with Hoyer at the end except to send Brady a minor message to quit chucking it at the end of close games. On the other hand by losing he probably keeps the Steelers out, gives Cinci something to play for which might keep the Jets out and get his protege in Denver in. Who knows?

BS. If it was so meaningless then why was Brady in the game until the final 2 minutes? We just proved that we can't play in the 4th quarter on the road. I guarantee that's how we'll lose in the playoffs. We could have shown some heart for the first time on the road all season, and completely failed.

OK..what was so meaningful about this game?

you are a moron

LOL??? You think the Broncos and the Jets are going to knock Indy and San Diego out of the playoffs?

Maybe.

But we could certainly beat Indy and the Bengals could certainly beat the Chargers. The Bengals then would host the AFCCG.

And I would rather play at home if given the choice in a critical playoff game.

I should start a list with the names of the people who don't understand what "meaningless" means.

So was it meaningless when we were up two scores? Professional athletes are supposed to play all games to win.

Yeah, because NE's defense can really turn it on when they want to.

Dude dont even bother, they are the same guys that will go in and Bash Indy for pulling their starters in a "meaningless" game but we go out and play half assed and its a "meaningless" game. Indy looks smart as hell for what they did.

Pats are okay

Today's game we should have won, but BB was using second and third stringers from the start to play against a team that needed to win. The likely loss of Welker is awful, but just as Brady rose to the occasion when Bledsoe was injured, it looks like Edelman might too. I don't think we'll know our D until next week, when nothing is held back. It's certainly possible that BB was not playing as hard as he could have to win. After all, the advantage of winning was negligible and debatable. If the Pats bring their A game they can beat anyone, even without Wes Welker.

This will be just like the 2005 season. We will win our home game but that is it. With Brady and Welker hurt, anything more than the home win is unlikely. And honestly, I worry about that as well.

This was a totally meaningless game. So stop crying about it people!!!!!!!

Shades of Miami in 2006.

Which is why it is so upsetting that we lost one of our top three weapons (and, arguably, the most important piece to the passing game) in a "meaningless" game. Let's take a look at what we accomplished in this game...

1. BB once again showed an inability to make a solid decision. Are we going to rest the starters or not? Are we going to try or not? Whomever said that this was BB's worst coaching season might be right... though I'm not old enough to remember his Cleveland years.

2. Lost what is probably the most important piece to our offense to what looks to be a torn ACL. Bad news for a guy that depends on his wheels as much as Welker does.

3. Blew another 4th quarter lead on the road.

4. First unit defense limps into the playoffs with zero confidence after allowing 400+ yards of total offense, including 300 through the air and 119 on the ground and 2 TD's a piece.

5. Subjected Brady and his cracked/broken ribs to more punishing hits in a "meaningless game"... one in which he never really looked good or comfortable, from what I saw.

If there's any good news, it's that Edelman looks extremely good. However, I was hoping that we could keep Welker and Aiken in the slot and line him up on the outside split wide on the other side of Moss. He has the quickness to get out of single coverage. But now, we aren't going to have that look. I sincerely hope that Welker just has a badly sprained knee and can make it back in the divisional round. God knows that we aren't going to be able to depend on our defense to do it against the Chargers and Colts of the AFC. My guess? We barely get by our Wild Card opponent then promptly get smoked in the divisional round by the Colts. This year feels a lot like 2005.

Oh, wow, you must be nostradamus.

Momentum...moron. Why dont you go bash Bill Polian and Jim Caldwell some more .

Meaningless will sum up the whole Pats season when it all ends during the second round...

"Freak" plays are why you rest the players. Excusing BB because the injury was a 'freak' play just makes no sense.

So does not excusing him. Even in the preseaon the starters play at least the first series. Would you be all over him for that? And while we're at it, that same injury could have happened in practice. Maybe we should start resting players all week so they don't get hurt.

Wilfork doesn't play because he's banged up but the franchsie Tom Brady is in then out then in then out in a meaningless game.
Just bizarre and flat out stupid to put Brady at risk against a good defensive front like the Texans. Just dumb to risk Brady after risking and losing Welker

If some of you can't figure out why that had to happen there is no hope for you... A rookie UDFA QB conversion project with a broken arm who has seen spot duty for the last several weeks is now Tom's #1 target for the playoffs... And matching the kid up for practice with Hoyer wasn't going to do Edleman any good either...

Totally pessimistic post.

1. If you noticed, Manning and Wayne and ALL the Colts played longer than Welker.

2. That wasn't our first team defense!??! Please. Brace, Wilhite, Alexander weer out there in the fourth quarter.

Seriously, you believe that was the first team?

There are only two valid reasons for Alexander to be playing defense: (1) resting other players, or (2) desperation.

In the AFCCG against the Colts, it was the latter. I don't think it was the case today.

Welker was bad luck...what can you do.I'm more concerned about these 4th Q collapses. This team is just gassed,on both sides of the ball.21 points against this D is only eclipsed by the stupifying playcalling with a lead and Brady at QB.

We were once 83-1 with a 4th Q lead............not anymore.......disturbing.

So, our opponent will be, the Ravens, Broncos, or Texans, in that order of probability.

I'm an Oakland fan, since the Ravens are the best of those 3 teams.

Edelman was drafted in the 7th round. But I guess you already knew that!!!

If the game was "meaningless", there was no reason to be playing Brady or Welker when he'd already made Faulk inactive and was planning on playing "rotate the O-line" all game long. It's that simple.

Belichick's been off his game this season, to put it kindly, and it's time for people to admit that instead of defending some of the most idiotic decisions the man's ever made.

Honestly I hope you guys get in. Of course if we end up playing you we are going to get the piss beaten out of us but good luck anyway.

Thanks man, but we're in a real bad spot now. We need a Ravens, Broncos, AND Jets LOSS. That's damn near an impossibility. It is what it is. Steelers choked ona couple games they should have easily won, and now this is the result. Even if we did make it in, I wouldn't feel too good about facing the Pats. We gave up a lot of big plays again to a crappy 3rd string Miami QB today. This game convinced me that we'd need a miracle (or a Polamalu at least) to have a chance EVEN if we did make the playoffs. It sucks though. It definitely makes watching the playoffs suck for me. But hey.....it is what it is.
