Reiss: Kyle Arrington (CB) to be promoted to active roster

A 30 year old, former first round pick, just lost his job. He was beaten out by a round rookie and an undrafted stiff that couldn't make it on the Jacksonville line. The only 'positive' here, assuming it's not a wink/nod cut, is that it's positive Simmons' career is in trouble.
Bottom line is a 10th offensive lineman is a luxury..

Brace should get some playing time..if he's active but a DNP then what does that say?
It might say that they don't play the same position. Do they? I pictured Brace as a Ted Washington/Keith Traylor kind of guy.

Though he hasn't lived up to first round potential, his career is far from dead. According to Belichick (via Reiss's ESPN Pieces)

Coach Bill Belichick touched on the decision to release veteran offensive lineman Kendall Simmons, saying: "Kendall really worked hard. I really have a lot of admiration for him. He's a pro. He came to work early, stayed late, worked hard. [We're] just managing the roster here, that's part of it. It was definitively not something we were looking to do, but we've got to try to manage our team." What Belichick was likely referring to was the interest that practice squad cornerback Kyle Arrington was drawing from another club. Instead of losing Arrington, the team is in the process of signing him to a two-year contract to join the 53-man active roster.

He's on the shadow roster fer shure.

Nothing there is a positive for Simmons. He worked hard, stayed late, and got cut before guys like Connolly for his efforts.

The guy is working his way back from an achilles heel injury. BB went out of his way to say how much he admires him. Sounds like someone who might be back. If Connolly was in the same injury situation, all things being equal, Connolly would be gone.

I agree..I thought that maybe he would return when the roster could AFFORD a spot for an extra lineman. Managing the roster week to week is not at all easy and there are multiple reasons for players being on the 53 or not. Belichick probably does that the best of many coaches in the league.

not necessarily..... depends on the person

I like them because they are a WR's worst enemy. Balls come loose w/ hard hits

Great. Good luck to Simmons. There's still nothing positive about him being cut. I don't know why people feel the need to spin this. A 30 year old former first round pick just lost out on a roster spot when there were special team players and journeymen that were also available to be cut.

Dude, he's hurt. He's rehabbing an Achilles heel and is not 100% yet. It was surprising that he was holding a roster spot in the first place.

If you want to somehow spin it that he isn't as good as Connolly, then go ahead, delude yourself for whatever reasons you need.

Most people here understand that BB doesn't lob compliments in the press to players who don't have "it". If the achilles injury is improving day by day, then this is a guy that will be back here or on another team.

...are you serious?

why not.... I think he'd make a better "coach" than a player @ this point.

I don't know what you can do personnel wise...... but he'd be a better sideline guy/ LB teacher than a player... just a thought. I have no idea what you can keep on the sidelines????

I like Seau a lot..... just not at the expense of a roster spot.

I like Seau a lot..... just not at the expense of a roster spot.

First off, Seau makes it possible so that we can go to a stronger 3-4 set while still being able to transition into the 4-3 when needed. Secondly, if there is one thing that Seau does well at this point (and extremely well at that), it's penetrating the interior O-Line to stuff the run. That's something that we're sorely going to need considering we're facing two of the NFL's top five run offenses (one of them twice in five weeks) coming up. Junior's roster spot is well worth it, no matter his age.

EDIT: But I do agree that he is going to make one helluva linebackers coach one day.

he has a good chemistry and a great attitude. His age concerns me.

you do not think there are better options than Seau floating around out there?

He is long in the tooth, but he's a gym rat and an athletic freak. On top of that, he's not going to be in on every down which means that his legs will be fresh for the playoffs where we will really need him when we face more good run offenses.

good point about the run....... but is he the unsung hero I do not hear about when the play dies and the run is stuffed? I just don't see it. It's always Wilfork or ppl like McGowan, Merriwheather, Mayo making the hits and ending the run.
