He is long in the tooth, but he's a gym rat and an athletic freak. On top of that, he's not going to be in on every down which means that his legs will be fresh for the playoffs where we will really need him when we face more good run offenses.

I LIKE the guy..... just want you to know that. OK???

I realize he is a 1 or 2 down guy..... Do you think he will be significant come playoff time? The future is hard to predict.... i just don't know

Dude, he's hurt. He's rehabbing an Achilles heel and is not 100% yet. It was surprising that he was holding a roster spot in the first place.

If you want to somehow spin it that he isn't as good as Connolly, then go ahead, delude yourself for whatever reasons you need.

Most people here understand that BB doesn't lob compliments in the press to players who don't have "it". If the achilles injury is improving day by day, then this is a guy that will be back here or on another team.

I'm not spinning anything. Perhaps you could read the thread before making your comments the next time? You might wish to focus on posts 20,22,31,36,37 and 39 before looking at mine.

good point about the run....... but is he the unsung hero I do not hear about when the play dies and the run is stuffed? I just don't see it. It's always Wilfork or ppl like McGowan, Merriwheather, Mayo making the hits and ending the run.

Requoted b/c I foolishly had "Mankins" listed.... I was thinking of McGowan and Merriwheather MAYO and-------- MANKINS another M poppped in my head.

I intened to put Wilfork..... it has been edited properly

lol........ Mankins wow

In the couple of games that Seau has played, with limited action, he's recorded four tackles. The bottom line is that if Wilfork and/or Warren misses the runner and he gets into the second level of the defense, you need a run support specialist to stop it. BB obviously feels more comfortable with Seau in there (in the 3-4) than he does about Guyton at this point in his career. As the year goes on, Seau will see more snaps. Releasing him instead of Simmons would mean that our 3-4 alignment would be weaker at the expense of retaining a JAG O-Lineman coming off of a bad Achilles injury.

I see clarity in your argument. Never thought of the 3-4 aspect. I thought 4-3 was going to be our new formation. But if we intend to keep a 3-4 and a 4-3.... your defense of Seau is a legit 1.

-Curious..... who gets demoted when Edelman returns and Morris?

oh and btw all Rosters need to be expanded 3-4 slots IMO

wait so they won't have to survive going through waivers? That would be terrible losing them...

No, the injured guys are still on the roster. Anyone who's been added/promoted had someone cut to make way. None of the hurt guys are off the 53.

HarkDawg: Morris, Edelman, Tate, and BJGE are all on the active roster right now, so it's not a matter of cutting anyone/worrying about clearing waivers. It's just a matter of who the eight game-day inactives are. By contrast, Arrington was on the practice squad, so activating him to the 53 required either cutting a player or placing a player on injured reserve; the Pats chose to release Simmons.

thnx for clearing that up.... I never was familiar w/ "NFL waivers". I understand now.

Nothing there is a positive for Simmons. He worked hard, stayed late, and got cut before guys like Connolly for his efforts.
Whatever. I didn't notice who I was replying to, or I wouldn't have bothered.

Schefter just confirmed the move.

I have a hunch he will be active.

Probably not. If anything, he will be active next week. Miami's passing offense isn't exactly going to set the world on fire. This was just a measure to keep him away from the Colts (for informational purposes) with next week's game looming.

Just an addendum: Reiss is reporting that it's a two-year deal.

Two year deal huh? That's suprising. I wonder what's going through Wheatley's mind at this point...

Or mine. I haven't understood his inactivity. When he's seen the field he's seemed ok to me. Maybe Arrington is lights out in practice?

If Wilhite ends up going today (doubtful) it will bring some significant questions about Wheatley's future with the club.

I think Wheatley was only inactive vs. the Bucs because he couldn't get through the airport metal detector.
