Springs got a pretty big deal, he got a 2.7 million signing bonus, we'd owe that if we cut him. I'd say the chances of Spring getting cut are very, very slim, and I think if healthy, he's our #1 CB.
I agree that the chances he's cut are very slim... I'd disagree that he's the #1. I would not be surprised to se him as #3 (Wilhite ? Wheatley ?). People will reference his earnings as a reason for being #1, but I'd reference the multiple times BB has mentionned he views #3 corner as a "starter" in recent years with all the spread O going around.
How did Fernando look before getting steamrolled in the endzone. Reiss loved him. Let's take a wait and see approach to the "are they significantly better ?" argument. I am hopeful they'll deliver - but fearful they'll be more of the same.
Didn't realize they'd take such a hit were he to be cut. Pretty much rules it out. But I agree with others who question if he is our #1.
I think you're gonna see so many CBs used that starters won't really matter. I do think he'd be more effective playing 50-60% of snaps in the nickel though, vs. starting. Recent history shows he just won't hold up if he plays starter snaps.
If you look at the list of the guys that didn't practice today, you'd notice more than a few veterans on there right next to Springs. Of course we'll never know the official reason of why these guys were kept out, but it could be that BB wants to give the vets a little extra rest.
This is earlier than even I expected out of Mr. Springs. (I've always been taught to address my elders as "Mr.")
I still can't figure why Springs received the big-money, multi-year contract, while Bodden got only the vet-minimum, one-year deal. It should've been the other way around.

Springs didn't get exactly "big" money, not as far as what high end CBs get. And as far as why Bodden couldn't get a multi year deal, him and the Pats couldn't agree on the money, so he is getting a one year two million dollar try out.
As far as Springs health, the story is that he was sick last week, he probably isn't back to 100% and could not do the conditioning run, and no one practices until they can do that.
shawn springs will be fine and a solid situational player...i could c him as number 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the cb depth chart...bodden, wheatley, springs, butler/wilhite...not a bad cb corp at allllllllll..........relax folks
