re: Carucci: Peppers close to going to NE for #34 (merged 3x)

Does anyone know whether or not if a deal goes down...wouldn't the Patriots have to have the full 17 mill of cap space available...even if a deal is restructured, don't they have to have his cap space available...I think this deal has to be a SIGN-and-TRADE.....

if you read like 20 pages before we talked about this. Basically, we dont have to pay him 17 mil. it is based on what he agrees too.

Nope. Give it a little bit, you'll be able to get one too. ;)

By the way, this is MUST READ stuff:

Peppers close to going to Pats for 2nd (34th overall) - Jets Insider.com Forums

Indeed, it's comments like:

Who had the faster 40, Clemens, Ainge, or Ratliff, make him the starter for the Pat games, since he'll be running all game.

They wont need to be violent. They'll only be in for 3 plays at a time.

That make me laugh enough so that I'll be happy whether deals like this happen or not.

I'm not an authority, but I believe that's true.

that's why I'm so curious as to how this could get done.

it'd be tough even if they signed him first.

I understand that....but before you can restructure a deal...the team receiving him HAS to have the available cap space for his original franchise tag figure....this is my understanding anyways...I believe this deal can only be done through a sign-and-trade

re: Carucci: Peppers close to going to NE for #34 (merged 3x)

Lets just get this deal done. Peppers in NE is going to be insane. The rest of the NFL would be beyond jealous, the hate for the patriots would go up a notch if Peppers signed. I LOVE IT!

What I hate about crap like this is this.

It makes me wonder if someone from the Panthers leaked this so that another team would move in and up the bid.

I think the Pats will have a hard time getting Peppers when other teams hear what is being asked.

I have to believe someone is going to throw in a bigger offer now.

I mean "could happen by the end of NEXT weekend"???

That is an eternity

Re: NFL network : Peppers close to going to NE for #34 !

In reality I predicted this all with my radio thread :D

Well he hasn't signed the franchise tag, so he isn't garenteed anything right now. As of right now, he isn't making any money.

Right - and the Panthers CANNOT trade him until he has signed the tender...this I know for sure.

No they can't trade him without having him in the discussion. So he gets to choose where he goes.

Sure - but that's not my point....The only way Peppers is traded is if the team receiving him has the available cap space for his franchise figure, which for the Pats case would be another 8.8 million....Peppers ONLY gets traded when he signs the tender of which is about 17 million...The pats can restructure that deal..but per NFL rules they have to initially have the 17 million available which is his franchise figure...

I DONT THINK THIS DEAL CAN ACTUALLY BE DONE UNLESS THE PATRIOTS CLEAR ABOUT 9 MILLION in CAP SPACE.....

re: Carucci: Peppers close to going to NE for #34 (merged 3x)

another post from jetsinsider

Man that team is ridiculous...

re: Carucci: Peppers close to going to NE for #34 (merged 3x)

Durrrr... they're not signing him to play DE.

That is what I am saying, he just doesn't fit at OLB, too stall, stiff, can't get out into pass coverage. That's what most of the experts say about him and I concur after watching him for several years. He just doesn't seem to fit. So if they were looking to bring him on, would DE be a better position?

Given this, I don't believe that he will end up a Pat. If they were looking at someone at OLB, it would be better to look at a Jason Taylor, who can actually drop back into coverage. (not that I am lobbying for him to become a Pat).

re: Carucci: Peppers close to going to NE for #34 (merged 3x)
