Carolina is STUCK with Peppers and looking to Unload him for whatever they can get!
Here's a strange way to look at it: Trade us Peppers FOR A 7TH ROUNDER IN 2010, and we still might not be improving the team much. We would just be acquiring the RIGHT to negotiate with him and to pay him fair market value. If we're paying him fair value, we're not stealing anything, we're just being allowed to distribute our team payroll in a more lopsided way. Now our options are to
1) Pay him a ton (like the entirety of our remaining cap room) and forget about extending Wilfork, etc.
2) Offer him a modest package, have him refuse it and hold out, and end up giving away a 7th round pick for nothing.
A bit oversimplified analysis, but does the point I'm making make sense?
