Good article.
I have been saying for much of the last few seasons that the OL owes Brady a big thank you for a portion of the praise it gets. Those stats show our OL at about 11th in the league in pass protection and that seems about right to me. It's an above average group, but Brady makes it one of the best in the league with his ability to withstand pressure and move around in the pocket.
Which is why I wouldn't mind adding Clady or Williams in the draft. Or any of the number of guards in the mid rounds who are projected as good, athletic blockers who could do well in zone blocking schemes, Thomas, McGlynn, Rinehart, Cousins. Schatz makes a decent point that Brady's safety comes into play. We throw the ball so much, it has to be a big priority to keep Tom upright.
(in terms of popularity, not inception)
10 years ago, ESPN was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
20 years ago, MTV was.
30 years ago, CNN.
The thing that I think a lot of people here miss when they talk about the difference between a right tackle and a left tackle is that the current Patriots offense doesn't really differentiate them as most standard teams do. When you are lining up 5 wide, or 4 wide with someone in the backfield, having road grader at right tackle doesn't mean much. If New England is going to be the Brady-to-Moss show with Guest Star Wes Welker for the next 3 years, putting a 'left tackle' on the right side isn't a bad idea at all. That's why I've been on the "Take an LT if he's worth a top 10 pick" bandwagon from the beginning.
its the same BS about the pats dont run enough and throw the ball. Just different article arriving at the same conclusion. We have had very similar o lines throught brady's career. And this genius didnt write this when the pats went 18-0 but after the SB discoverd that QB hits are important too.Not to mention the heading of the article which is another typical ESPN thing.
It's totally not BS - the Pats are so committed to the passing game it made it easy for the Giants to come after Brady. It's not like Maroney was going to break off a 20-yard gain on them.
i dont care who he is . if he works for espn .i wont read it watch it or purchase a product from a espn sponsor .For what its worth department: though the article may have appeared on ESPN's website, it was written by Aaron Schatz, a longtime Patriots fan and founder of FootballOutsiders.com.
when the header says football outsider then ill read it. enjoy your daily dose of bull**** from espn.Yeah, okay. Good luck with that.
The point was that the only thing 'ESPN' about the article is the header on top. Any other day, it would have run on Football Outsiders.
