Some of Revis' plays at the goal line are incredible to watch.

I wanna see! :D

Broncos fans are just as bad as this the Jets fans on this revis thing. Trying to down play it so much becasue they know it was a great signing.

I am so giddy about the scheming Bill is going to be able to do now defensively.

Right, the 2nd year is an "option" that the team will never pick up. The idea is that if they like how Revis plays during the season, they will restructure into an extension. If Revis is somehow a misfit, the team doesn't pick up his option, he becomes a FA, we get a 3rd for 2015.

This kind of forward thinking is just sick, if you ask me.

It almost seems unfair.

It also gives Revis the freedom to move on if he doesn't like it here, but there's not much chance of that happening. He hates the Jets too.

BTW I would be shocked if it's not NE @ NYJ week one and probably Sunday or Monday night. The NFL loves big story lines to get everybody amped up and the Revis return as a Patriots certainly qualifies.

Monday Night Football, of course.

Couldn't the Pats pick up the option next year THEN franchise him in 2016, say with a franchise tag amount of $14M then and end up with Revis for 3 years at $46M or a bit over $15M a year?

In a word, no. If they picked up the option next year he would cost $25m against the cap. If they then franchised him, he would cost about $30m in 2016.

The option isn't a real thing. It's just a dummy year used to push part of this season's cap hit into next year when the team will have more wiggle room.

He'll need to acquire another DE & a SS before he can do any scheming different from
what he did this season.

Still waiting to hear on when the press conference will be...

Ya that option is not gonna happen but I think it's the groundwork for an extension.

Particularly the $12m roster bonus. I think if they do an extension they turn the roster bonus into the signing bonus, bump up his base salary and slap on another $12m roster bonus for '16.

Cap will be $145m next year and $160m in '16

I think over the course of the whole season you're right. But he did some pretty good scheming over the first 4-6 weeks of the season when everyone was healthy. So it shouldn't take TOO much to be able to do that again.

Where another DE and SS would come in handy is helping to offset injuries to make sure that scheming can be maintained all year.

Lower 2014 cap number = awesome

So the Broncos made the same exact offer to 3 CBs? I'm not surpised Revis turned down the Broncos offer -- Revis obviously believe's he's worth more than 9m/year; and he's willing to sign the 1 year 'prove it' deal with the Pats. If he regains his old form, he'll easily get 14m the following year.

Under the Bronco's contract, he'd have likely been severly underpaid. I'm a little surprised that the Broncos were willing to offer Talib as much money as they were willing to offer Revis.

It still hasn't hit me yet...

Revis is a Patriots.. like wowwwwwwwww

I know this was discussed a few pages ago, but in case anybody missed it, here are the contract details.

Darrelle Revis' deal with Patriots includes $20 million option

The New England Patriots' contract with Darrelle Revis allows them to keep the Pro Bowl cornerback for 2015 – at a cost of $20 million.

According to contract details obtained Thursday morning, Revis received a $10 million signing bonus on the deal, which includes a $1.5 million guaranteed base salary for 2014 and $500,000 in per-game roster bonuses.

It also contains an option for 2015 that the Patriots would have to exercise by the end of the 2014 league year, locking in a $12 million roster bonus payable April 1, 2015, a base salary of $7.5 million and another $500,000 in per-game roster bonuses.

If the Patriots decline the option – which seems likely given the price, no matter how well Revis plays – it also would prevent them from using the franchise tag, meaning Revis would either get a new deal in New England or hit the open market.

Does a signing bonus get paid RIGHT away..like when he signs..or at a later date?
