Adrian Wilson signed

That must be why he was warming the bench in Arizona

He's not a cover 2 safety. He's going to play mostly rover/SS.

Good T Wilson learning from A Wilson, Gregory backing up McCourty and N Ebner looking to hit someone anyone. I am pretty happy with the S Position,

Now sign Talib finish the Sanders, Abraham & Vollmet signing, figure out the Edleman/Lloyd situations and we are done.

Draft perhaps a DT & OL with the first 2 rnds and and wait for training camp.

:D

Hm, looks like the FS/SS model isn't dead after all.

If he's going to play the true hard hitting blitzing safety role we had better get some coverage LBs or ask Tavon Wilson to play Safety/LB over Spikes or Hightower.

How can you not be excited with this signing? Remember the SB safety tandem? He can't be any worse than Patrick Chung in coverage. 2x Wilson, McCourty, Gregory is a very solid unit. Forget about the CB play last season the Safetys were worse. Finally a vet in this secondary. Now get Talib and maybe this year the secondary could really improve.

Well sure, but if he's not a whole lot better, then that's a major problem. The Pats need to get better in coverage at the safety position. If Wilson isn't that guy, then they either need someone else or they need to bank on Tavon Wilson improving. Hopefully both Wilsons will be better than they were last year.

Hopefully this pushes Steve Gregory off the roster.
I agree, though the monetary implications will probably have Gregory be cut after the end of next season in 2014 instead.

Though if his play slips enough (likely) and/or someone else is signed/drafted that is better than him (highly likely), don't expect Coach Belichick to show any mercy in wasting any time in relinquishing Gregory of spot on the team sooner rather than later. Either way Steve Gregory will not be a Patriot in 2014.

Since he was released, does not cost a compensatory pick.
Technically, does not negate one for a free agent the Patriots lose, like Welker.

We'll see. According to statistics he was quite good in coverage and more important is that finally you have someone with experience in the back. I'm not the only one who thinks so because he signed to a 3 years contract. For his age BB must really see something in him.

I don't know what statistics you're talking about, but he was subbed for on passing downs for a reason, and it probably wasn't his brilliant pass defense showing up the rest of the team.

Agree. This team has sorely needed the coverage LB role for five years. Roman Phifer, Don Davis, Gary Guyton, etc. A nickel LB good in coverage. All the LB's on the roster are basically run-stopping good tacklers, but none excel in coverage.

Great signing. He's gunna be the tone setter we needed back there.

12/27 when targeted isn't that bad. Maybe he was subbed for a reason on passing downs but I really hope that alongside McCourty he can thrive again.

I know nothing about this guy to be honest. I was listining to 98.5 and they had someone on from the Arizona Republic which is a news paper I assume to talk about this signing.

Says he keeps himself in great shape.
He is more of a leader than he was previously.
Good at covering the run.
Not great at covering the pass and is his weakness. The cards took him out in certian situations last year. I am guessing those situations were when they expected the other team to pass.

Even at his age he can lay the wood on someone at anytime like harrison could

They might still draft one (I hope they do). Doubt we see a pick used on WR if the Sanders reports are true and all the moves already made there. So I could see us drafting a CB, OL, DL, and S with S/CB still being the priorities there. CB may also get checked off if Talib or another premier CB is re-signed.

I see Wilson as a 1-2 year stopgap and upgrade to Gregory (which I'd be satisfied with)

I hope he can mentor the Ebner. :)
