Pats get CB Aqib Talib from the Bucs !!

4th round pick is a steal, what are you guys smoking? A guy who was picked in the first round and has shown he has the talent to live up to it? We're lucky as hell to get a guy with his talent and age for only a 4th. If there was no risk involved it would've been a 1st, guaranteed.

And Patriots fans have plenty of time to adjust to the high likelihood that the Patriots will not be picking in the first round.
What? Why?

My guess is if the Pats gave up a fourth for Talib, he is going to sign another deal to keep him around on the cheap for next year too. I could be wrong, but this deal probably came with at least a short term extension.

Who would of thought the Pats could actually play press, man-to man coverage...halleluah. Both are Talib and Dennard's strengths.

That's the key. Talib and Dennard can play aggress press/man coverage and bump receivers off their routes, with McCourty playing FS and making sure that they don't get burned too badly, allowing the front 7 to pin their ears back and attack. It works much better when both your CBs are suited to the same kind of approach and when you have a safety who can cover your back. Before, McCourty wasn't well suited to man coverage and the deep safety protection was abysmal.

**** YEAH :rocker:

Please be more Randy Moss than Haynesworth. He has all the talent in the world. Still in shock and a 4th rounder is a steal. Absolutely love it

That 4th rounder, as it stands right now, is for 11 games only. If we win the SB, then that's value but by no means is this a steal. If he keeps his nose clean and signs a longer term contract then it may well turn out to be.

...which will most likely be used on a wrestler, rugby player or a position switch....or a guy who falls because he beat up a cop.

Take Tyrann Mathieu with the 7th we get from Tampa Bay. It would be poetic justice.

I just hope that the clincher with Talib wasn't BB's offhand mention that guns are easy to get in nearby NH

With 8 games left on his contract, he wouldn't have fetched a first even if he was a model citizen.

Seem fair value, but I cannot remember the last player to be taking out in the 4th round by the Patriots with the exception of Aaron Hernendez.

Finally some news to talk about till the bye week is over................ GO PATS .......... GOOD pick..

BTW, Talib has served only three games of his four game suspension. I am assuming that he will end up missing next weeks Bills' game as his fourth game.

IF you discount Chung for the moment and assume that McCourty stays at safety and that Gregory can play the nickel (which he played at San Diego) then our defense looks something like this right now:

DL: Cunningham/Ninkovich-Wilfork-Love-Jones
LB: Hightower-Spikes-Mayo
S: McCourty-Wilson/Gregory
CB: Talib-Dennard
Nickel: Gregory/Arrington

That's not half bad. We should see more aggressiveness on defense in the second half of the season if the CBs are able to play press/man successful and the safety coverage holds up.

You think that's what made him pull the trigger? :D

Good for him! Gives him more time to learn the defense. We need him for the play offs to be ready

Good player. Horrible person. Hopefully, he doesn't turn into another Haynesworth.

Unlike Haynesworth he reportedly loves football and practices hard. Just has trouble with anger and off-field decisions.
