Of course some of our fans think we will blow you out, but most of the fans know this will be a very hard game for the niners to win.. I believe we lose this one and we lose to the hawks and end up 6th seed when this is all said and done. I just do not believe Kap has what it takes to lead the niners to the Superbowl this year. I believe with a full season behind him next year we have a chance. This year I am not sure..
No mater the outcome win or lose here is to a good game no injures and best of luck to the Pats the rest of the way..
Well...as a Niner fan and member of the 49erswebzone since Jan of 2005 I'd like to call a big, fat BS on your first line. Just a bunch of trolls, huh? Nice. My experience with peeps from the "official" site is that they look down their nose at everyone else...kinda like you are doing now.
ANYWAY....to all you Pats fans.....
No trash talking here. I have the utmost respect for New England...Belichik and Brady in particular. The Niners this year are kinda learning how the other half lives. IE, last year, they weren't a team that other teams measured themselves against. They get every teams best now. The Pats have been living with that reality for a decade.
The initial quoted comments to start this thread are of course ludicrous. You can't decide who is good or bad based on common opponents. Its a game of matchups. The Giants for example seem to have the Pats number of late, but it's not because they are "better". Its simply because they matchup well. Niners have some similar problems with the Giants, so I know what that's like.
So...in that regard, these are the matchups I'm looking at.
1) TEs: Is Gronk not gonna play? Hernandez is enough to deal with, but both will be tough. The Niners DO NOT eat up TEs. In fact to me it is one of their weaknesses. Donte Whitner is one hell of a Strong Safety, but he does struggle in coverage. Thats why I have a feeling he won't see the field much. I think they are going to rotate in thier 4th corner (Parrish Cox) and play nickel for alot of the game. This is one of the Niners strengths BTW...they are very deep at Corner. They're 3rd CB (Chris Culliver) may actually be the best CB on the team and will likely be the starter next year. The Niners have had success against pass heavy teams in this defense (Packers, Lions, Saints), but the Pats are admittedly a different animal. They do give up something in the run D in this formation (which is part of why they aren't as dominant in that category as last year), but they have usually been able to contain teams running game enough to not get run out of the defense. Willis and Bowman are very good coverage LBs, but I don't think they can be expected to take away Hernandez.
2) Pass Rush: I think this is a key on both sides of the ball. For the Niners, they have to put pressure on Brady or it's all over. I'll bet you guys have never heard that before, right. New territory. ;-) Seriously...the Niners need to get there with their front 4. If they have to blitz...bad Mojo. I think Aldon Smith is the best pass rusher in the game right now, but the Pats neutralized Watt for a good portion of the game last night. Aldon seems to save his best for games under the lights, but I'm not counting on it. They need Justin Smith and Ahmad Brooks to be forces. I firmly believe that the Niners right now have the best LB corps in the NFL. Actually I think they are the best since the Dome Patrol for the Saints in the 80's. Aldon Smith. Patrick Willis. Navorro Bowman. Ahmad Brooks. At least 3 of those guys will be in the Pro Bowl and possibly all-pros. On the other side, Kaepernick is an outstanding downfield thrower. His legs are what has gotten all the pub, but it's his arm and accuracy that has Niner fans excited. He has thrown some passes that have shocked us all. He is ACCURATE down the field. That has somewhat been taken away of late because teams have played off the receivers and the pass rush of the Rams and Dolphins have mucked things up. As good as he has played, he is still a YOUNG QB and prone to some mental lapses. I am counting on Belichik to have some surprises in store for young Kaepernick. If the Pats can get a consistant rush on him, it'll be tough sledding all night.
3) Run Game: Get ready for the niner run game. If you haven't seen it this year, be prepared to see stuff you haven't seen before. That doesn't necessarily mean I think the Niners will run all over the Pats...I'm just saying you will see some crazy shifts, formations and stuff. They will put 7 O-Linemen in the game with 2 TEs.....and throw the ball deep. They are unpredicatable. Some teams have shut them down pretty good...particularly on the road, but if they get that going...watch out. Losing Kendall Hunter as the #2 RB has really hurt them. Frank is fantastic, but he and Hunter had been sharing the load all year. This last game they finally activated 2nd round pick LaMichael James...and he looked pretty damn good. We'll have to see if that continues. As for the Pats, I know very little other than that they have a run game which can't be said for all of the other uber-passing offenses in the NFL. Mostly Draws and such? Power running with 2 TEs in base formations? You guys will have to fill me in on that one.
All in all, I have to admit this game makes me more than uneasy. The Niners really need this one to hold off the Seahawks for the division crown. I do NOT see the Pats putting up 42 pts, but I see both teams scoring in the mid to high 20s. I'm not going to make a prediction, but I think this one will be close.
