Only.... out of the tunnel emerges a fully uniformed Tom Brady, strapped up with black eye paint, all proper paperwork signed and official... AND DOMINATES THE EAGLES AS ONE FINAL SEND OFF TO ALL OF HIS BELOVED NEW ENGLANDERS 58-3
What a legend!
That's the bigger issue IMO. No plan. Then why not keep him through cutdowns and waive him if they find someone better? Or find someone better from the likely to be cut people and throw a low draft pick for him?
I'm not going overboard and I don't care that much, but I think backup QB is kind of important and wish it seemed like they had a real plan in place.
For some reason this post got me thinking about Matthew Slater, another player like Cunningham who isn't really a WR. Why not put Slater on waivers and keep both of them? Cunningham could learn to be a QB while Slater keeps providing his ST play and leadership. No problem here re Zappe. If he clears waivers, he'll either be on the PS or back where he was, sitting there waiting for Mac to get steamrolled behind Bill's Random Selection of Fat Guys, aka the O-line.. This move suggests they might want him on the practice squad. If he doesn't clear waivers (unlikely, I think), then I thought they could just bring in some vet with a little gas left in the tank and either put HIM on the PS or make him the backup. If after all that, we end up w/ no on-the-roster backup...well, who knows. Maybe something is in the works; maybe it isn't. I wish they had kept Malik on the roster tbh. He didn't help himself by being so abysmal as a receiver. The edgy move, which I kinda like, would have been to have Malik serve as backup, which could give him enough work to develop as a qb, given the team some valuable looks in practice when they were to face a "mobile qb,", and so on. Then, if that were a bust (if "edgy" turned out to be "stupid," which can happen), or maybe just premature, you snag your oldster/Zappe (whichever you end up with) off the PS, and then, Malik's stock at that point having fallen, you take a chance on waivers. I think it somewhat likely some other team will now pick him up, which I think is regrettable, but not the end of the world. Malik is a project, yep, but a very interesting one. I'm hoping the O-line is not so bad that the season resembles Joe Louis' Bum of the Month thing: each week a new lamb to the slaughter.
Yeah, I know that's right, but I am just wondering when they started feeling that way about Bailey was. Was it only at the end of camp? Was it in the middle of camp? Was it after spring workouts?
It just seems like we're now at a place where if something goes wrong with Mac, we're either dumbing down the offense for Bailey, who they obviously don't feel great about, or some retread who hasn't succeeded anywhere else to even be some other team's QB2 or QB3. I just wish they had gone after someone else sooner.
Surprise Surprise probably better than Flute at this time. Joking.Nah, he’s done. After as much **** as you just talked about him since he left, I’m surprised you’re even posting this. Or was it a joke?
I see your point, but I don't buy it. Bill always pointed to the Colts sucking for Luck and saying the Pats would go down fighting. I think you're right about them turning on Zappe quickly and needing a better plan longterm, but I don't think they'd be so cavalier about not needing a better backup this year.It would matter more if this team was closer to being a SB contender.
Since we're not, finding the right piece long term is more important.
Someone beat me to it about the Alia Seltzer commercial. See you on the shuffleboard court, don’t miss the “early bird special.”Who was it who used to say, "That's a spicy meat-uh-ball"? Dean Martin?
Absolutely changes are sure to be made. Buy per NFL rules all teams have to have as you know the 53 Man roster set by the deadline. So I mentioned that that is likely why that move was made. Obviously we aren't going into the season with 1 QB. No running back depth.it is what it is... the 53 is set for now, will wait and see how much manipulation can be done... you can tell that changes will be made over the next week given the size of some of the position groups

If those college coaches started teaching QBs to play from the pocket instead of trying to win games and keep their jobs, the NFL would have enough to go around... maybe. That says something that the Patriots are incapable of even finding what they consider to be a competent back up for Mac Jones, who may be a middler QB himself.
That isn’t a real thing. People don’t not care then suddenly care once they face the consequences they always knew they were facing.I hope he has a huge chip on his shoulder and uses it to get better.
Eff Hugh Millenated.Anyone got Ryan Mallet or Kevin O'Connell's phone number? . . . no? . . Rohan Davey's? . . . Michael Bishop's? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Hugh Millen's?
It's kind of the trend line, though.I see your point, but I don't buy it. Bill always pointed to the Colts sucking for Luck and saying the Pats would go down fighting. I think you're right about them turning on Zappe quickly and needing a better plan longterm, but I don't think they'd be so cavalier about not needing a better backup this year.
I think I agree with @Rob0729 that AJ McCarron might make the most sense because of his familiarity with BOB and the offense. Bring him in to compete with Bailey and see who can run the offense most smoothly if Mac goes down.
If they felt like that about Zappe before camp there is no way in my mind that they would have Zappe throw as many passes as they did.Yeah, I know that's right, but I am just wondering when they started feeling that way about Bailey was. Was it only at the end of camp? Was it in the middle of camp? Was it after spring workouts?

Yeah and they didn’t care if Hoyer came back or not. From the top of my head if I remember correctly they’ve done that multiple times with Hoyer.
Tom Kardashian was a great name. That was a good thread.Surprise Surprise probably better than Flute at this time. Joking.
